Kilgore Trout and seemingly overnight! Massive respect for this corps and the identity they made. One thinks of Glassmen 96/97 but this had staying power.
The finishing statement of 1812 gives me goosebumps every time. You cats at finals gave every brass player in the local vicinity a fat goosey smile including me. Can't wait to see what you throw down next season.
I like how the contra on the very right of the screen is the only one doing transitions while marking time. Great show this year, and as a brass player myself, always great to hear that jaw-dropping hornline. I want to see them again live so badly. Come back to the west coast.
That opener must have been a timing nightmare with the different meters...puts the tubas in a really tough spot. They were all booking it this whole time too
I agree I had them 3rd musically. It sure is exciting to see a new corps contend for a medal. I've always pulled for Phantom or Cavies, but now I have a 3rd corps to pull for. Carolina Crown..... may the best corps win in 2009!!!!
It's great when you actually can hear the tiniest little errors because that means they have gotton so clean that the smallest little mistake will stand out. This is when you know you are damn good. Outside of DCI, and even some corps, never get to this point so it makes it even more epic to see people perform at this level. :)
2:09 to the end. I love it... Best hornline, improved drill in 09, just couldn't pass BD. So close to my "Makes the top 5 in 08 and wins it in 09" prediction that I made in 07.
Easily top three hornline this year. Phantom, Crown, and Devils were untouchable this year from a musical standpoint IMO. I'm defenitely looking forward to see what this corps comes out with next. They seem to become more confident creatively every year.
is it just me, or is not much change in volume in this video? I can tell there are volume changes in what they're actually playing, but it just doesn't sound like that maybe the camera isn't capturing the changes and records it as all one volume??
When you play you should always imagine your sound going out of the end of your horn and leaving your position. The sound when its produced will always travel.Microphones only catch the initial sound when it travels past it. Dynamic contrast is therefore is lost a slight bit. Listen to when the corps cuts off and how the sound seems to travel past their position.Dynamic contrast exists its just extremely hard to catch sometimes.Especially with the kind of decibels of sound that Crown's producing!
Obviously, bariBOY, you are too young to hear Star on anything else but memorex. I have heard both, and yes, they are alike. Crown is an unbelievable corps and has one of the best hornlines in DCI today. But that said, could they still produce that sound on the 6 year old 2-valve G bugles that 90 Star did. I don't think so. Who probably was the instrumental part in turning Crowns hornline into what it is today, Donny van Doren, maybe? And what a coincidence, he was Stars Brass caption head. Huh!
almost forgot to watch this today
This is my favorite comment on UA-cam, never fails to make me laugh
So bloody amazing. This was an amazing season. The 2007 and 2008 seasons took Crown from being consistent top 12 finalist to a top 4 title contender.
Kilgore Trout and seemingly overnight! Massive respect for this corps and the identity they made. One thinks of Glassmen 96/97 but this had staying power.
Nice name
This is one of my favorite years of Carolina Crown's brass line.
"Two nights ago, was NOT a FLUKE."
The one person who disliked this is crying because his corps didn't win the Jim Ott Award for Best Brass for three out of the past four years.
The hit in their opener is my all time favorite
Still an awesome Crown hornline clip
That's insane how clean that sound and articulation was!!! Sounds like a fun show
I love the upward swing crown has been on the last few years, can wait for allentown next week!
FOR THE LAST & YEARS CAROLINA CROWN HAS BEEN ON THEIR GAME!!!!!! WE LOVE YA AND WE WANT A REPEAT NEXT YEAR!!!!
I'm fucking addicted to the first 30 seconds of this video. It's so happy
The finishing statement of 1812 gives me goosebumps every time. You cats at finals gave every brass player in the local vicinity a fat goosey smile including me. Can't wait to see what you throw down next season.
Video is still absolute gold
they blend so well....this brass line will only get better, I expect these guys will be contenders ..... 800+ auditioning for this corps.
of all the returning corps I am most eagerly awaiting the 2009 edition of Carolina Crown.. It's going to be something special
The music selection for this show was just plain amazing. Carolina Crown in general just picks amazing music for their shows.
I like how the contra on the very right of the screen is the only one doing transitions while marking time. Great show this year, and as a brass player myself, always great to hear that jaw-dropping hornline. I want to see them again live so badly. Come back to the west coast.
I think he was referring to the first time Crown beat the Cadets in brass...
1:42
"Two nights ago was not a fluke", aka, they beat the Cadets for the first time ever
incredible...I grow to appreciate this brassline more every time I hear them
That opener must have been a timing nightmare with the different meters...puts the tubas in a really tough spot. They were all booking it this whole time too
Cold chills... thanks Matt and Crown!
God damn.. That contra line is the BALLS!!
every release was like a pipe organ. I want to die listening to something like Carolina Crown's Glorious sound.
Crown was and still is amazing.
Should've seen it in person!!! i was at that one, but i saw them in San Antonio.. I teared up a bit during their show
i'm speechless.just wait til finals.they'll sounded godly.they're amazing right now.and get louder and better every show
Love the conducting/dancing going on in the beginning
I absolutely love Crowns Sound.
I agree I had them 3rd musically. It sure is exciting to see a new corps contend for a medal. I've always pulled for Phantom or Cavies, but now I have a 3rd corps to pull for. Carolina Crown..... may the best corps win in 2009!!!!
The pit at this part mixxed with this sounds so freakin awesome. I cried when I heard them play this in person.
It's great when you actually can hear the tiniest little errors because that means they have gotton so clean that the smallest little mistake will stand out. This is when you know you are damn good. Outside of DCI, and even some corps, never get to this point so it makes it even more epic to see people perform at this level. :)
one of my close friends.. jordan is one of the contra players there!!! i absolutely loved that show and i am still a huge fan of crown!
I went nuts watching them in San Antonio in 08..
ahh i wish i was marching this summer!!
This has to be my favorite show ever.
The only show to make me want to try out for a corps one day.
Did you?
I love Matt's passion, just like in 93 with Star
ahh Candide is my favorite part of the show, especially the very beginning. Finis has definitely been my favorite show in a few years.
that drum major almost broke through the podium during the shows. I saw it at every regional. One energetic dm.
The director dancing in the beginning is great.
The two who disliked this video should be disliked themselves.
Your camera has great sound quality. Thanks for uploading :)
Amazing!
The chord at 0:46 just makes me wanna explode
Amazing. Best wishes to the corps and staff.
Nice jersey, Matt!
I would absolutely LOVE to have been on THAT contra line.
LOVE!
me too my friend.
but i was so tired from the exhausting day, i didnt quite appreciate this as much as i do know! lol
but still...good show..
I conducted this piece for Drum Major auditions at my highschool
that was beast son!!
The BEST hornline writing in DCI.
im not going through all 51 comments but the man in red dancing... awesome
@myshilohmy You have just created my new favorite figure of speech.
wow, I am really hearing the tiniest TINIEST little errors when i open my ears, but still this ensemble is EPIC
Yes. :)
2:09 to the end.
I love it...
Best hornline, improved drill in 09, just couldn't pass BD.
So close to my "Makes the top 5 in 08 and wins it in 09" prediction that I made in 07.
:46 "in their face"
WOW!
I like how you can hear Crossmen's closer around 1:40
very good brass that year!
Almost an English Brass Band sound to the beginning segment. Not many DC lines can boast that!! I wish more could!!
Planet X FTW!! :)
Lawlz...I can hear the Glassmen warm up in the backround when Crown isnt playing.
The last bit sounded like the final peice to I wanna say the Phantom's 92 show.
aside from the few cracks at the beginning, this is clean as piss.
Yeah dude this is crown and this sounds way better than the glassmen's show!
the show is gonna be called
"the grass is always greener"
its on the Crown site
@TWBaltz thats cus it is. 1812 overture. It would be interesting to hear Phantoms line in this same scenario playing that. be good to compare.
Easily top three hornline this year. Phantom, Crown, and Devils were untouchable this year from a musical standpoint IMO. I'm defenitely looking forward to see what this corps comes out with next. They seem to become more confident creatively every year.
yeah, i missed teal sound, boston crusaders and crossmens shows to get this
worth it
is it just me, or is not much change in volume in this video? I can tell there are volume changes in what they're actually playing, but it just doesn't sound like that maybe the camera isn't capturing the changes and records it as all one volume??
Dear God!

2:12 to the end is epic. Dude looks like he's conducting with four arms.
It's actually 7 measures of 2/4 and one of 3/4. =]
god that chord at 0:46 gives me freaking chills
yeah
my favorite part is 1:06 because the guy marching. pretty funny
how old is crown? they're one of the newer corps aren't they? they've got such a great wall of sound
kill it crown.
what time signature is this in? it changes throughout right?
i wasnt being serious, but i know you havent auditioned every year since because i would have seen you this past year..
What is their 2009 show called and what music is being played?
this year is there 20th anniversary
yea i think it's 3/4 and alternates between 4/4 or 2/4..something like that?
pretty sure that happened a lot this season
it takes into account visual demand as well...
actually it goes from candide to shostakovich, then 1812...
almost an English Brass Band sound to it. Not many DC hornlines can boast that!!! I wish more could.
is Will Pitts on there?
Yep, and its fairly early on in the season...
so you werent able to audition for crown, but you were still able to make it down to audition for JSU?
But you cant have 3 as a bottom number? 3 can be on the top. did you mean 3/4?
3/3? you mean 3/4...
and i don't think the whole section before the first impact is all in 3/4...
You werent on the field, how would you know? The Jim Otte is decided by field music scores.
I think the impact hit @ 0:47 could be one of the best.
@dcfr3ak You're damn right we could.
1:06-1:14 What song is that?
Oh wait, rtx2512 was right. =] 6 measures of 2/4, one of 3/4 and one of 2/4. =P
what does that mean??
3/3???
