- Hi, this video shows you how to change the spark plugs on a BMW 3 series with the N43 engine. The car in the video is a BMW 318i E92 but it will also cover the E90, E91 & E93 if they have the N43 engine. A special tool is needed to change the spark plugs due to the offset angle of the spark plugs which is covered in the video.
Many thanks Vince - Навчання та стиль
Seven years on this video is still the best I’ve seen for this. Just changed coil packs and plugs myself and saved £££ following your guide, so thanks 👍
Thank you for this great video. I just changed my ignition coils on my E81. This video was really helpful and thanks to you it took me only 30 minutes to complete. My engine is running perfectly smooth again!
My father and I changed the spark plugs on my BMW using this video. Super helpful!
Very useful video, thanks. The tip about using electrical tape to stop the socket staying on the plug was especially good. I didn't have access to the 'wobble' socket but a 'regular' 14mm laser socket with a universal socket joint worked equally well for me.
Thanks mate,helped me a lot
Someone came 2day for a maintenance for his bmw and found your video
Awesome video, great and simple explanation, thank you :D !
Great video I did my plugs and coils today, I would recommend pushing, from behind the 2 wire carries across the engine cover. You won't break any clips that way
Hi Vince- Thank you for this an excellent video. I have a 320i 2009 coupe E90 with a N43 engine, and whilst I have read about the Laser Wobble socket this is the only video I can find that confirms my engine requires one. I am very surprised that I appear to be the only one to leave a comment so far but this has saved me a lot of aggravation had I started. I have located the socket on ebay.
Thanks, I appreciate the comment. I couldn't find much info online apart from a good forum where it was discussed so I thought I would do a video. Had I known about the 'wobble' socket beforehand then I could have done it all in the one day rather than having to put it all back together to order the part and then take it all off again for one spark plug which was annoying. This video unfortunately doesn't get many views so I am wondering if the N43 engine is just for the UK/European market as if it was a popular engine worldwide then I would have expected more views.
Hope the service goes well for you.
Vince
@@Mymatevince It's one of the unloved BMW engine's. I'm learning from experience, it's my first & last. Catalytic converter problems, misfires & more.
I'm just about to tackle the spark plugs & air filter with your videos though, so thank you very much!
Excellent video. It would be a shame if you do not make more videos like this. Well done mate.
You are the man! I never wouldve known how to open this suit
Excellent comprehensive video. About to change coil pack(s) and plugs. Thanks
Hi mate. Nice video, i didn't know about this wobble socket to remove the plug. I even asked my mechanic they haven't got a clue what i was on about. Thanks for how you showed the tool and even the part number on the laser socket. I just did my E93 N43 with that tool. Thanks and appreciate for the deatailed video.
Thanks :-)
Thanks for a great video i am going to change my ignition coils and spark plugs next week and you video has just made it look very easy i did not know about the socket but i have just ordered one. your video was brilliant well done and Thank You
Excellent video. Really easy to follow. Used it to replace all 4 coilpacks on my 320i E92. Thanks.
Amazing dyi explanation, congratulations!
Great informative video with excellent quality pic...thanks so much.
Thanks for the detailed video! How long was the extension bar you used with the socket to reach down to the plug?
Excellent video, thanks for the effort, much appreciate
Awesome video, very clear and great instruction....Thanks!
даже для тех кто не понимает английский язык :)
Really appreciate ur effort. :)
Great video , thank you very much, very helpful indeed.
Awesome work dude! I could change the spark plugs on my N43 very easily because of your video. Could you do me a favour? Please make a video about changing the intake manifold on a N43 👨🔧 couldn't find that on youtube anyway 💪🏼
thank you for your effort in to this video! much appreciate
Thank you, this helped me a lot!
Great vid . Have to be honest would not have tried it myself after watching all the others. But saw this video and gave me the confidence to do it myself.
Only comment. Theres a slight edit where you take the second wiring rail off the plastic.
Just add this to the description for us 👀. Would be great 👌
Otherwise belter job 🖖
One of the worst cars ever built in my opinion. Owned a garage for many years and these were forever coming in with issues, we really felt for the customers. Such a palaver to change 4 spark plugs, plus a special tool. Thanks for the great video, very informative!
very good video and explanation. thank you
Love it 👍 good and clear explanation
Great video, thanks!
You're much better than the mechanics I've been to! Can you do my service...? I live in london
Super, greatly explained. 5stars

Thanks bro this video helped me big time
Brilliant video very helpful
Awesome video step by step
HI, My bmw some times feels a bit sluggish and my MPG is about 20-25mpg. Iv swapped the mass airflow which resolved alot of issues. but still my mpg is about 20odd (i do vertually no motorway driving on my day to day) was wondering what kind of fuel economy you get out of your for a base line. Spark plugs and fuel filter are next on the list. Cheers
Just done the plugs and changed the coil pack on cylinder 2 runs well we'll have to see how it goes e92 320i 2008 on 122000 .. So thank you for your vid bang on point..I used the Lazer small socket with with universal swivel worked a treat...ps don't forget to use take one the socket and extension ... Thank you very much bud👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 best vid for this job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Brilliant, thank you.
Hi mate your car and engine is exactly the same as mine and I was struggling to find any information on the power steering this car uses. I am changing out all of the fluids and some say this car has hydraulic power steering and others say it is electric. Does you know if this is a car with hydraulic power steering that requires power steering fluid and the reservoir is just hidden somewhere behind a bit of plastic or is it an electric setup with no fluid required. Many thanks!
Super video thanks
Great Video thank you
Hi Vince
I'm a big follower of your videos on car repairs
I have a BMW e92 but the side mirrors and seat belt extender stopped working.ive been told it's to do with a fuse.
Please assist on how to sort out this problem.
I would really appreciate your response.
Thanks .
hi i bought this socket , and i have 318i but i am still struggling to put this socket on number 2 spark plug it doesn't go fully in ..any suggestion please?
How many miles did you cover with this car and did this engine give you any problems over that time?
Can I get to pot one near the bulk head with the straight tool mate tia
Just changed all 4 spark plugs and ignition coils on my E92 320i thanks to this video. Thanks mate! Interestingly enough there were steel plated Delphi coils but appeared to have black arc damage to all 4 of them, spark plugs were surprisingly clean apart from a tiny bit of oil on the threads, is this normal?
Thank you :D
No need to gap the spark plugs?
Great video will be trying this soon, other videos are not using the wobble socket are they different engines?
Thanks, yes probably different bigger engines in the United States. This one is the N43 engine and annoyingly the very bottom is slightly offset so a normal BMW spark plug removal socket will not work. There is websites that tell you what engine you have if you enter part of the VIN number which is useful.
Great vid vince did the car run any better afterwards?
My 318i can feel a bit erratic at times even though no fault codes are present?
Thanks:-) No, it didn't but it was/is running fine before and after.
Hi, thanks for the great info that you put together, i have the same engine and i want to ask if you replaced the plugs as consumables or you had any symptoms, for example I have hard start up when i press the ignition button but not all the times just occasionally
Hi, I purely did it for the service. I had no problems with the plugs I took out and the colour and condition of them looked perfect. They probably didn't need doing but it was for 'peace of mind'.
Thanks for your reply!
Thank you.
Well done
Thank you
Same procedure for E87. Same engine layout. I'm using ceramic paste to prevent of stuck plugs.
Good to know. I just bought an E87 with an N43 engine. Will be following this guide.
How do you find your engine N number please
I have a BMW E90 318i sometimes the car runs rough (not all the time) no error-fault code in ecu checked with INPA what could be the problem? help pls
Hey man, I'm just learning about these engines, did you see the bimmerprofs.com website? There's quite a lot of N43 info on there, especially about the NOX sensor.
So there is no coding involved when changing the spark plugs?
No.
hello everyone, i have a bmw e92 2011 320i n43 engine, and i experience long cranks only when the weather is hot and the car was parked for several hours, apart from that its start very good, anyone experience the same issue?
I have a 2010 318i e90, how can I tell what type of engine I have ie N?
Check your VIN number.
Some moron cross threaded the spark plug closest to the front of the engine bay on mine, that one is even more of an angle than the others, i assume they used a normal, non wobble socket. I had to get a company called torq works to come out and get the old spark plug out and recut the thread, £140 it cost me for that. I had a terrible misfire on that cylinder funny enough lol.
I think i may need some more new coil packs though, this spark plug problem was about 2 years ago now, i did have new coil packs fitted but the misfire has come back, it's not bad, it just judders a bit when staionary, i can feel it through the gear stick not really through the car itself....so it's not terrible.
My N43 has 165,000 miles on it and still going strong :D
All the plug holes are off set believe it or not.
I have a e90 318i SE on a 58 plate, anybody know how I tell if I have the n43 or n46 engine?
Ash01 n43 almost sure like mine
www.mdecoder.com/
for engine code 🥳😎🥳😜
i saw a rolex only
P.S. I subscribed too.
Oké
Stupidly complex design from BMW! Jesus
Oh dear the n43 get rid of it asap before it cost you a fortune to repair, terrible engines .
