It's crazy to see how long it has been since a girl (Emily Fox) held the sport stacking record. Some of those guys that came after her were not even born when she did it.
6:48 imagine dedicating so much time for this sport. Constantly finding inspiration so you can finally break the world record. You achieve the world record, to then have it be broken 30 minutes later.
I once won a 3x3x3 tournament at age 7, still have the medal, and I also still use my old matt as my mouse pad for my desktop. There might still be a recording of it out there somewhere, and I'd love to see myself 13 years ago, but I do vaughly remember screwing up the first two rounds then obliterating in the final out of sheer annoyance at myself. I highly doubt I ever broke a big or substantial record, but I was the talk of the school for at least a week, so that's a nice memory I always keep I the back of my mind.
Idk if anyone plays tennis, but Steven is like Federer. Had amazing records that better athletes surpassed eventually, but is still everyone’s favourite cuz of his style.
Im a cuber that first got into sport stacking cuz my school hosted a stacking competition but after that i quit and a few years later i found my sisters cube and my stackmat timer and thats how my cubing journey started
As a cuber who often gets asked what the appeal is of doing the same thing over and over again, I actually struggle to see the appeal of this. Obviously cubing isn’t exactly the same every time but I wonder how someone stays interested in an event that is less than 10 seconds but exactly the same every time.
That last kid looked like he had his hands closer to the cups at the start, almost touching them. I wonder why the other kid didn't do that if its allowed.
usually I think these kind of speed competition are rather niche and I wouldn't enjoy watching it... but goddamn are those hands fast, might watch some more of these now
The display lags behind. The time is recorded by the stackers themselves using a special timer: It starts as soon as you lift one hand from the touchpad and stops when you place both hands back on the touchpads. The big display is connected to the timer and always lags a couple milliseconds behind. It will eventually display the correct time though. It's worth noting that a new timer was recently introduced that has additional touchpads for the thumbs and there's been a record reset because the new timers are expected to increase times, so all the old records are now "legacy records".
