Those episodes were actually meant to serve as a prologue for this movie, but then the Porygon episode caused those episodes to be delayed, so the movie was given a prologue of its own before the title sequence.

It wasn't taken out. The original Japanese theatrical release and first VHS release of the movie didn't have it either. It was a bonus short that aired before the movie's first Japanese television airing, then got tacked onto every Japanese home release from that point forward. The confusion came from the fact that the version of the movie floating around the internet in the early 00s was taken from the first Japanese DVD release rather than the original VHS release, so westerners saw it and assumed it was always part of the movie in Japan. It wasn't. (also, all of the awkward CGI was added for that release. The first Japanese version didn't have the big CG doors or anything) 4kids did eventually include it as an extra on the Mewtwo Returns DVD.
I agree, because it was something that tied the events of the tears of life scene and Mewtwo’s view on life together in full circle and needed to be left in the film for the audience to understand that aspect of the story.
I never saw that extra intro. I heard about some of it, but didn't know there always actual footage. I saw another reaction channel do this movie but didn't have this footage.
I’m glad that you guys got to see the full version that included the opening scene of mewtwo with Amber, it makes mewtwo more sympathetic and deeply hurt. And man, it’s just freaking sad. And mewtwo’s quote about the gift of life is just freaking beautiful and powerful. The gift of life is something so important that we all must cherish it.

With how OP the Psychic-type was in Gen 1 (with Bug-types in Pinsir and Scyther being nowhere strong, no Dark types, and potential coding bug with Psychic being immune to Ghost), it makes sense why the first Legendary Pokemon we were introduced to was one of the best Psychic types in the franchise. Mewtwo is the catalyst for imposing legends.
I still have this mythic mew card that came for free with the movie ticket in the 2000s. Not even that much of a Pokemon fan anymore but this movie and this card was always special to me, even as kid i realised the deep and important philosophical undertone of that movie. Always love it when child media dares to tackles serious topics, it's also why The Last Airbender is one of my favourite shows ever. If i ever have kids, i will for sure show them.
When I first saw this as a kid, I expected lots of cool battles and fun time with Ash and his electric mouse. And I got that, but I also Pikachu trying to revive Ash. That made me bawl my eyes out.
I know this is just a meme, but one of my favorites things is "If you ever feel useless just remember Ash tried throwing hands with Mewtwo." And the rebuttable was "Man, Mewtwo felt the heat so bad, he thought he needed a barrier" And that's just funny to me, what if Ash just clocked him right out.

Oh snap, let’s go! Mewtwo has such an interesting and compelling story. In fact, it has a very similar tale like Shadow the Hedgehog. They both were created by scientists that wanted to do good for their loved ones, being used by individuals that want to do evil, and the fact that they are both extremely powerful with their abilities, not to mention they had identity issues. To this day, the parallels between Mewtwo and Shadow really fascinates me.
I know it kinda wasn’t Warner Bros Animation but also it kinda was. But man, WB was releasing some bangers in the very late 90’s. The Scooby Doo renaissance, Pokémon, Batman. I was only four when this came out but it felt so big and epic and more dramatic than the series. It was so cool. The score is really on point, the songs are nostalgic, Mewtwo is a cool antagonist. Animation is beautiful. It really feels like a series finale. 2000 also feels the same way.
It wasn't Warner Bros it was 4kidstv that they took the beginning off from the original Japanese movie. Because it was too dark and too deep for kids to understand about life and death. But they sure kept the scene where Mewtwo destroys the lab and murders all the scientists 😅

I really like the clone versions of the Kanto starters. I remember very well that they were available to capture in Pokémon GO in celebration of the remake of this movie, along with Armored Mewtwo. I wish they were able to travel to the mainline Pokémon games though.

You guys are watching the Raw unedited version, that WASN'T so much publicly released yet during our era because it shows a child dying on scene. The version we watched was still very good at developing a disposition, but it wasn't until later years that this movie would be re-released in it's raw form. At first it was a Japanese edit, with no sub or dub. The translated version made it through, and then finally the dub! So the scene you watched at the beginning, with Mew connecting with Mewtwo, it's allllllllllllll the raw unedited we didn't get to watch when we were young!

Something that I could never figure out is how can you tell the new clones from the original Pokémon? I mean I would look at a lot of the new clones and I could never tell the difference between the two and still I can’t all off the Pokémon look exactly the same to me

I used to have the vhs and soudtrack. Theu just dont make kids shows like this anymore. The animation itself still holds up, and the bits of cgi they use blends well.
1:28 Gengar still has levitate? I don't think they necessarily nerfed gengar in particular for the latter gens, gengar simply suffered the same thing all old pokemon do power creep. In that regard, gengar has actually done much better than most gen 1 pokemon.

Pikachu’s charge normally wouldn’t effect rock types, but this is following the anime canon where Pikachu got a shock upgrade when Ash faced Brock and his rock types.
You should check out the Pokemon Red Fanmade Animated Series made by Pedro Araujo he did a faithful adaption of the Pokemon Red video game and its super emotional and hilarious. Hes working on a sequel series currently also.

Considering Mew is kind of saying "Clones aren't real Pokemon" ... yeah~ makes no sense in context, but better in the dub for obvious reasons.

Fun Fact: They actually DID show a Master Ball in the anime, but it ended up getting eaten by a Pokemon before it could be used to catch it.

@@chillwill2918 No, the clones were all evolved versions. Including Pikachu and Meowth. But they got restricted by Mewtwo, so the fight was equal.
Pikachu’s charge normally wouldn’t effect rock types, but this is following the anime canon where Pikachu got a shock upgrade when Ash faced Brock and his rock types.

You should check out the Pokemon Red Fanmade Animated Series made by Pedro Araujo he did a faithful adaption of the Pokemon Red video game and its super emotional and hilarious. Hes working on a sequel series currently also.
