    I will try and train my ears to listen at 3.5x speed AND ABOVE for next time but 3x was my max for this round :[] also wanted to add 3x speed was actually ok when i was doing my makeup so maybe it also depends on length of exposure time and also how tired i am haha. if a lecturer is talking tho its 3x speed for me.

    1,5 is my comfort speed. It's fast enough so my ADD brain doesn't get so easily distracted, but not too fast so I can understand everything (especially because English isn't my mother language).

    I start around 1.5 and work up to where its comfortable where i can understand the story usually around 1.9 - 2.5. For me it depends on a couple things including how fast the narrator speaks, word choice (usually fantasy has lots of made up city names etc) and if im doing something like if i'm cleaning i have to slow it down.

      @@chillhopworld I have the chrome extension "Video Speed Controller" which works on videos on just about any platform (TikTok, Imgur, etc) and even on gifs. Press "s" to slow by 0.1x, "d" to speed up by the same increment.

  • @beanbagbooks
    @beanbagbooks 2 роки тому +8

    Ok, so compared to a lot of people here it looks like I read audiobooks SUPER slow ... I generally prefer a 1.15.-1.2 speed, will really never go above 1.3 (and if I do it's because I don't like the reader anyway, so I'll often just put the audiobook down), and if I really like the narrator I won't speed it up at all!
    To me an audiobook is a different experience from reading text. I really enjoy different narrators' takes on stories; many are incredibly talented. I also don't read audiobooks for accessibility reasons (though somewhat for convenience, like if I'm driving), so if I choose the audiobook, it's because I want to read that particular story on audio, and I usually want to pay close attention to the narrator's style.
    Also, like Divya, I often have trouble with certain accents on audio, mostly ones I'm not as familiar with.

    • @R0SE727
      @R0SE727 2 роки тому +1

      I'm the same way! 1.2-1.3x is my usual listening speed, and even 1.3 i find I end up zoning our or missing words. I can do 1.5 but I think I just don't like the pacing. I feel like i miss things if i go faster and b/c I write too, I want to be able to absorb the writing style so I can learn from it (whether its good or bad lol). I think doing 1.25ish baseline speed I've come to find regular 1x speed too slow now but i do want to enjoy the performance & i think 1.2x you get both.
      I could probably work my way up if I wanted but 3x speed is wild to me! tbh it even surprises me when ppl admit they watch yt 2x speed all the time, unless its somthing i really wanna Get Through I usally just vibe at 1-1.25x.
      Tbh if I'd been listening to audiobooks in school tho I feel like I abosolutely would've trained myself to listen at 2x or higher tho for more practical reasons

    so is this a safe space to say that i dont get the booktubers who listen to audiobooks on 2.5x speed??? i tried to work my way to that speed but i found myself giving up and it sounds gibberish. listening to 1x with good voice actors though, remains my fav speed to be at! (tho maybe i am just not into audiobooks in general personally bc i need to see words to remember/process it) ngl tho i borrow children's audio book and have it read it to me as i go sleep cos we gotta heal our inner child somehow

  • @yasminnn8
    @yasminnn8 2 роки тому +10

    The speed I listen to depends on the narrator. If they’re easy to understand and they do a good job differentiating the characters, then I’ll listen at 1.75-2x speed. If they’re a little difficult to understand then I listen at 1.25-1.5x. When I first started listening to audiobooks I’d listen at 1x speed which is unimaginable to me right now 😂 I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on the story if it’s being told to me that slowly. If I want to skim or reread just for the feels I’ll listen at 2.5x. I tried listening at 3x once and never again because even rereading feels impossible at that speed (unless the narrator speaks really slowly I guess).
    It sucks when there are multiple narrators and one is easier to understand than the other cause then I have to keep adjusting the speed.
    Also in general, I prefer American accents because they’re easier for me to get into. And I prefer female narrators because they’re usually better at ‘male’ voices than male narrators are at ‘female’ voices.

    I listened to audiobooks on 2x speed when i first started and now it's 2.5x to 3x depending on the narrator and what part on the plot I'm on. I'd also advise eyeballing the EPUB/book while listening to the audiobook at 2x plus speed. It really helps.

  • @Neverrgreen
    @Neverrgreen 2 роки тому +2

    I saw an author whine about how listening to books faster than normal speed is bad because you lose the inflection and intent of the narrator and author and its a slap in the face of the author and narrator and man, I'm not buying anymore of their books. You can train your brain to listen for inflection. Also audiobooks are typically read slightly slower than average speaking speed to help those with auditory difficulties so it's grating for me to listen that slowly.

  • @charlotteb6002
    @charlotteb6002 2 роки тому +5

    plss I listen to everything on 3x speed! it’s a little faster than my base reading ability and I find it really helps me focus-any slower and I get distracted. I even watch UA-cam videos (including this one) on 2x so listening to you play clips was quite funny :) I think listening to books that fast as a means of “gaming the system” is pretty toxic, but for people like me it honestly makes consuming books way more enjoyable. except I get frustrated with normal people talking sometimes!!

    You get accustomed to the speed fairly quickly. I listen to audiobooks in Spanish at 2.5, but I'll admit that in English I can barely manage anything over 1.5, and only when I'm not surrounded by noise. (side note: I also watch YT videos at 1.5, and I was too lazy too slow this one down for like the first half. 2.5 speed at 1.5 is wild XD)

  • @Neverrgreen

    I find with audiobooks ot takes time to train your brain to get to higher speeds and it doesn't work for everyone! Also the narrator matters. Some have accents or inflections or cadences or speeds that leans themselves to slower speeds or higher speeds. I have a narrator that I've listened to over 100 hours of their narration and I can go very high with her as I know her inflections well.
    Also genre matters and your personality. I used to need to understand everything but some books I just don't need all the details and don't care if I miss words on occasion. Most of the time I can figure out what the word was by context.

    I listen to audiobooks at 3x speed and it’s so annoying Overdrive stops at 2x😭 I can hardly keep up if I listen without headphones though so maybe try that? It helps me focus on what they’re saying. I really love the efficiency of listening on 3x and I can’t deal with how slow 2x and under sound

    I have had boring books i want to finish narrated extra slow that i can speed up to 2.5 no problem. I usually pay attention best at 1.5-1.75.
    When the narrator has an accent I’m not familiar With i have to show it way down though

    My normal speed is 1.25x, otherwise it sounds too slow and unnatural

    I always watch UA-cam videos and listen to audio books in accelerated speed because otherwise I can’t concentrate and get bored immediately

    2x is good for me if I'm listening out loud. But if I'm listening with headphones in, I can do 3x speed. It's strange, I think because I've isolated the book and nothing's distracting me. However, if I'm following the book with my eyes I can do 3.5x depending on the general speed of the narration

    It really depends on the narrator, some are much faster than others, but I'm alright with 1.75x to 2x listening speed which way below my reading speed and I wonder if that's because I'm more of a visual learner rather than audio.

    1.75 is my go to speed, but if its a boring audiobook I tend to speed it up haha, i wouldn't go more than x2 though

    The faster the speed the more robotic it sounds to me, which really takes me out of the story and I can't listen to it. I think 2x is my max.

    I mean I’ve listen to books at 1x at 2x and 3x. It really depends on the narration and on what I’m doing. Like if I’m hating the book and I want to finish it quickly I listen to it 3x and if I love it too

    I can listen to audiobooks on 3 to 3.5x depending upon the narrator, I have been listening to audiobooks for years now and started with 1.5x and slowly grew from there. After your first few times, listening to the book at 3x gets easy
