Ray. Thanks for the response. I had bilateral strabismus surgery. My right eye had two muscles strengthened and left had one loosened. Immediately schedule a strabismus eye appointment with an eye are office. From there they can refer you to a surgeon. Look into the success of said surgeon, and proceed from there. Get after it now, and you will be thankful you did!!

Looking at getting this surgery done. Quick question - do you still have double vision? I’ve never had double vision, but would you do it all over again?

When I went to be examined I asked my Dr how many surgeries I will need and he said one surgery. My right eye goes inward. I only need to get surgery on the one eye which puts me at ease. I'm nervous abt coming out of surgery and not wanting to throw up but I've read to talk to my anesthesiologist abt that. So what did you do abt your vertigo and double vision? Any tips?
Hai Ray.. I hope u doing good. i think its been more than One year since u had surgery, now how is your eye vision and position of the eye ball? Cos I need to know, how long does surgery would help me to keep my eye look normal.. or else again it would go back to previous stage after some months or years?? Thanks for your reply
Take a look through my more recent videos and you'll see how they look now. Specifically, the how to clean a horse stall video. My Dr. Informed me that this surgery should last at least 30 years!!! Amazing. However, some cases, rare, the eyes do push back out. Before the desired length of time. Hope this helps!
@@RaymondMayer sure bro...I ll see your further more videos, wowww 30 years that's really an awesome... Let's see, anyway i had a consultant from eye specialist, (one of the best in india). What they stated is, depends upon the persons it would be. So it's made me hesitation to do the surgery.. All right bro once again I ll get a consult and think about to do surgery... 🤞 Thanks bro..wish u have a happy life...❤️
Expect the Dr to describe what they plan to do. There will be opportunities to ask questions, I strongly suggest you do so! Recovery will take longer than they say, so ask for a dr note that covers you for the most amount of time possible
Does the double vison & all vision problem go away on perminent basis after completely healing? Or do symptoms still exist? When do these things leave, if ever?
My double vision hasn't gone away. But it's based on how aligned the eyes heal, and how the brain processes it. Mine processed it as two images and hasn't told me it's one yet. So, it probably won't for me.
Hi Ray, Thanks so much for posting your videos. I had my surgery 4 days ago. Both eyes were exo, now slightly overcorrected. The double-vision is insane! I know you say you still have it even now, but how long before you felt comfortable driving, working, etc? Did you just occlude one eye to drive?
Hey Ray I'm currently trying to get this done but I don't necessarily have money to pay for the surgery. i have been struggling with money lately and I have Medicaid. Do you think they could still do the surgery off my Medicaid
I'm not sure how much Medicaid will cover. I do know this is NOT a cosmetic surgery, and most of the time is covered. All but like 17% or so was covered for me, which left me with a bill right around $1,500.00 USD. What I would do, is call the eyecare office, and ask them. They can run your Medicaid # and tell you if it's covered or if visits are covered. GOOD LUCK my friend! ✌🏼
It paid for my sister's in Bascom Palmer Eye institute in Miami. Both eyes were lazy eyes but one eye fixed it. Say you have neck pain from twisting your neck Everytime you look and depression/anxiety due to it. If you go to school it's even better. She's ,35. Use adjustable stitures!! New technology
I'm actually starting to get nervous 😂 they'll be doing the surgery on my both eyes on June 18th of this year. I do hope it'll be fine as well. Now I'll have my idea on what to feel after the surgery. Thanks
Just schedule an eye doctor appointment and voice your concerns. You can also speak with your doctor about it and they can give you contact info or even possibly help you set up an appointment. I went to child eye care associates who then referred me to the doctor/surgeon I had. -and he was great.
i had surgery in 2011 when i was 10 ish i noticed a couple months ago my eye straign and double vision would be appearing as i tried to forcefully make my lazy eye which is sometimes apparent i would try to make eyes straight and it caused this I want this problem to go away did yours go away after your surgery? like the one you are talking about the headaches double vision that occured are those gone?
Leigh Jenkins I was asleep for the surgery. The adjustable suture was very annoying for about 3 weeks though... because it is just outside of the white of the eye. It scratches the eye lid a little until the stitch dissolves around it's edges.
Had mine done 5 days ago here in the UK. The double vision is definitely disorientating and I hope it goes away but overall so happy with the result. My right eye turned inwards really badly but now it's almost perfectly central
I just wanted to know if the double vision affected your driving.. How lojg after surgery were you able to drive? Do you get double vision when you drive? Thats what would scare me
Igor, it's easy to drive, and it's the same as It was before surgery imo... nothing too difficult. Driving 6 weeks after surgery. Yes, double vision doesn't go away, but you can still use one eye to focus with
@@mariahlove6372 it was $10,000 USD, and half must be covered before surgery. With insurance, I paid a total of $2,500 USD, and was scheduled for surgery immediately.
Great question! One surgery for me because my eyes were nearly equal on the horizontal axis. So, my eyes weren't up and out or up and in. Most surgeries that require two surgeries are because the eyes aren't just out or crossed, but they are also off on the vertical axis. Hope this helps!
Hi Ray I had weird strabismus, it wasn’t very noticeable but i was having double vision and my eye would wander it was hard to function without prism glasses . I am now 6 days post op having double vision and nausea from what appears to motion sickness . One of my eyes seem to be more difficult than the other I feel the sutures more and it is tighter feeling idk . I kind of feel a little disoriented to be honest . I have read that some go back to their normal life 2 days post op . I am 42 but feel like I am not functional enough to work yet ( doing hair) a week out? I feel a little frustrated like it didn’t work . Did you wear prism glasses before and do you need them now at all if so? Thank you for your testimony it is really helpful
I didn't use prism glasses before, but you should know... I too had muscle tightness for about a month and a half post op. I took two months off work because my job then required me to peek around corners and such.. which was very straining. You might be feeling the sutures because you prob have an adjustable suture, which will go away as it dissolves. If it keeps bothering you, your doctor can prescribe you drop that should help a lot with that. Thank you for reaching out!!
Hi , I had my surgery done 20 days ago, the eyes are aligned straight but I am now seeing single object as two images, which means I am seeing separate image of single object what should I do now ?
@@RaymondMayer I went to the doc yesterday and he told me that I might be confused and there is no way I having double vision. Hey man... I had a question, im a teen of 16yr. I have exotropia in my left eye( and left eye has low vision 3/6 from when i was 4year old if i remember ) and my right eye is whole prefect 6/6 ( no problem in right eye) ....whenever i look at things near 15 cm my eyes are straight( positioned in one point) but whenever i look at something more than 15 cm distance my left eye goes in other direction( left direction, exotropia) while right is straight....what should i do? Should i go for Vision therapy (And did you tried vision therapy prior to surgery? Does vision therapy works?) or surgical muscle surgery? Plz help im really tensed and afraid to look at peoples directly in their eyes( i still remember a restaurant boy stared me for a min cuz of my eyes) ....kindly help me.... I'll really appreciate.... If you wish i can upload my eye video for you.
Chinmoy Trex get in to a good eye doctor and tell them what happens. I think they will lean toward surgery, but sometimes special lenses with glasses can train the eyes to be straight. I didn't have exercises prior to surgery. Mine were always directed outward, so surgery was my option. Get your Dr's opinion asap. I used to scare kids just by looking at them... adults even.. so I get that social uncomfortability completely. Hang in there, get the dr visit, and let me know what they say/do.
Ray Mayer thanks for your advice... Yeah i kinda know the feeling of outward eyes....looks scary and makes us lose our confidence with peopels never trusting a guy with no straight eye contact.... You look fine after surgery, its been a year are you all right everything's fine with eye? Straight? Redness still?...anyway....what you think non-surgical vision therapy works? Cuz im ashamed of having muscle surgery and getting those red bloody marks on swollen eyes... Im in senior school, guys would interupt and always ask "why is your eye bleedy like that? "this will embarrass the hell out of me. ..and surgery is the last option, if something goes wrong...my life would be ruined.. All Cuz of strabismus eye.... Thanks for taking your time for me.... It can affect your vision. Assuming you can see through your right eye if it were straightened, you can have double vision, or many other things happen... most, like double vision, are manageable. My best advice is to schedule an appointment with your doctor, and ask the medical professional everything you can think of. Best wishes and prayers for you. -Ray
Ray Mayer thank you so much for your reply and after surgery we can able to read or it required some time to recovery for reading and writing ...After the surgery are there any cases happens like again crossing eye undergoing again surgery ..waiting for your reply
Ray Mayer in your reply you mentioned that "if it were straightened " is it means that it may or maynot be straightened Because I want straightened eye after surgery
Hey Ray, looking good man. I have my surgery on the 13th of June. I was wondering what ever you insurance didn't cover, did you have to pay up front? Im nerevous about this myself surgery wise anyway. But this is a life long dream of mine as well. Thanks
No, I didn't have to pay upfront because more than half was covered by insurance. I made sure to pay the Dr visits off asap as it got closer to surgery, but it didn't matter too much because surgery wasn't done in the Dr office, thus, was billed separate from the office where I initially had my eye exams and such.

@@RaymondMayer I read and watched that the vision of the people who had Strabismus surgery that their vision changed from either dominant one eyed vision or double vision, to a more depth perception and more binocular view, basically seeing things broader and better.

thank you!! I have a very mild form of strabismus and I need glasses. My doctor suggested a surgery but I'm not sure if it will help me. I guess I will have to live with glasses FOREVER :/
If there's a chance at helping your vision, I'd take it. But I've had years and years to make that choice. If glasses were all I needed prior to this surgery, I would have embraced those like none other. But my eyes were far out, so idk how I'd feel in your shoes entirely. If you do take the leap, let me know! The glasses you have are most likely prism glasses, correct? Yes, I did have adjustable sutures, but didn't need to adjust as he thought it was good overall. -and it was
Me either I was under the impression that only children could have this procedure done.. I'm going to make an appointment as soon as I can.. I'm tired of living this way..
Looking at getting this surgery done. Quick question - do you still have double vision? I’ve never had double vision, but would you do it all over again?
I do still have double vision, and I would do it a thousand times over!! Best investment I've ever made.
Ciao io ho un occhio storto exstropia il 24settembre dovevo andare a fare l'operazione ma la mia paura e arrivata a limite . Vorrei che si avvarasse il mio sogno mi dai un consiglio come è l'intervento . Ti prego . L'ansia mi frena 🙏😘
I'm getting my surgery on September 12th. I'm alittle nervous but excited at the same time.
Any tips?
Did the surgery work for you my friend?
🤞 Thanks bro..wish u have a happy life...❤️
I’m getting surgery in two weeks!!! What should I expect for first pre opt before actual surgery
@@RaymondMayer Will you see double vision for the rest of your life?
@@2thankyou4watching potentially. But if I need the surgery again 25 years from now, it has a pretty good chance of success
@@RaymondMayer Thank you. You have answered a lot. Most appreciated! I hope things go well for you & it clears!
One eye to drive initially... now its comfortable with both. It took me about a month to get used to it.
Thanks
Franklin Bautista me too but in jamaica where surgeons ming down and it's free
Hey congratulations on the surgery, I wanted to know where do I go to get the surgery.
Just schedule an eye doctor appointment and voice your concerns. You can also speak with your doctor about it and they can give you contact info or even possibly help you set up an appointment. I went to child eye care associates who then referred me to the doctor/surgeon I had. -and he was great.
Ray Mayer thank you
i had surgery in 2011 when i was 10 ish i noticed a couple months ago my eye straign and double vision would be appearing as i tried to forcefully make my lazy eye which is sometimes apparent i would try to make eyes straight and it caused this I want this problem to go away did yours go away after your surgery? like the one you are talking about the headaches double vision that occured are those gone?
Hello im having the same struggle about my eye and i want to have a surgery as well but i want to know first how much it cost u?
It costed me around 2.5k out of pocket. The rest was on insurance. That's all visits leading up to and after surgery.
Hi... so long did it take before you were able to drive again after the surgery? Thanks
For me, 3 weeks.
When the surgeon did the ujustable Sutures was it painful?
Leigh Jenkins I was asleep for the surgery. The adjustable suture was very annoying for about 3 weeks though... because it is just outside of the white of the eye. It scratches the eye lid a little until the stitch dissolves around it's edges.
Have you got double vision before surgery , means you see two pictures at one object or just for the look of your eyes ??
Before surgery it was not double. But it was a very wide view. I could switch between whichever eye I wanted to focus more from.
Had mine done 5 days ago here in the UK. The double vision is definitely disorientating and I hope it goes away but overall so happy with the result. My right eye turned inwards really badly but now it's almost perfectly central
As the muscles heal they begin to relax, and the eyes will get more straight. Nice job Jon!
Wow man good for you man.. God bless you.. I've got strabismus too hope that someday I'll get better as you did
How did it go Jon? I’m from the UK too and want to have it done.
It will go back after a while ..
How is going now ? Are still ur eyes ok after this time?
Yes, still great!!
Yes, double vision doesn't go away, but you can still use one eye to focus with
@@RaymondMayer it took you 6 weeks to start driving?? I am always on the road.. I was expecting a 2 weeks off driving maybe if even that

Ray Mayer yes feeling awesome
Hey how much was the surgery
@@mariahlove6372 it was $10,000 USD, and half must be covered before surgery. With insurance, I paid a total of $2,500 USD, and was scheduled for surgery immediately.
Hello. How many surgeries did you have to do?
Great question! One surgery for me because my eyes were nearly equal on the horizontal axis. So, my eyes weren't up and out or up and in. Most surgeries that require two surgeries are because the eyes aren't just out or crossed, but they are also off on the vertical axis. Hope this helps!
Thank you. Yes it helped!
That's double vision. Just be patient and let your eyes heal more. Definitely go to your follow up appointments k
@@RaymondMayer I went to the doc yesterday and he told me that I might be confused and there is no way I having double vision. But Sir I will tell you, the eye are aligned , but seeing separate images of single object. Seeing objects overlap apart called double vision but in my case not overlaping :( just both separate images of single object
I think still double. The image of what you look at should merge and be one if not double vision. You still might heal well
Is there any way or this is not treatable?

Anyway are you American?
Does this surgery give you double vision? I wanna get this done because my eyes are lazy but my vision is perfect and I’d hate to ruin that
My vision was 20/20 going into the surgery. Was slightly poor immediately after, but now I can tell it's 20/20 again. Still have double vision, but no vision problems.
Ray Mayer so the vision is manageable? I’m so scared to get this lol but I’m so insecure about my eyes

U talking about double vision. Didn't u experience double vision before the surgery ?
No, I didn't. Just had a really wide field of view.
When can I work out after the surgery?
As soon as you feel up to it. For me, it was a week.
You might want to check with your doctor. My doctor told me to wait 2 weeks before doing any exercise.
After how many days can you look at a screen with your both eyes ?
I'd wait one or two just to give the eyes some rest... but you'll be able to see, but with sensitivity. They'll be in pain.
Hi I am from India please please help me i have strabismus and I can see only through the left eye my right eye not working from childhood itself .I got surgery past 10 years ago. Now i am doing degree education .while I was reading yesterday i got feel like overlapping of pages of book it's really very very bad situation for me because I was preparing for semester exam so kindly help me how to overcome from this strabismus problem.. after surgery can i expect both eyes visions and is any effects happen in future after surgery like overlapping of images etc which makes unable to read and write because I am studying 3rd year degree now kindly help me please
It can affect your vision. Assuming you can see through your right eye if it were straightened, you can have double vision, or many other things happen... most, like double vision, are manageable. My best advice is to schedule an appointment with your doctor, and ask the medical professional everything you can think of. Best wishes and prayers for you.

Because I want straightened eye after surgery
Tarun Miji there aren't any guarantees with surgery, and even mine was said to last about 30 years
Hey Ray, looking good man.

Some do. I spoke with one lady and she had her vision "pop" back to 3D nearly immediately following surgery. I still have double, but it's very manageable.
Used to help line up what both eyes see simultaneously to achieve 3D vision, or one image merged while looking with both eyes. May the odds be ever in your favor! 👊
Thank you Ray for your words of support. Yeah, my glasses are with prism.
