Sure manning it will be a problem till AI crew come into play but even so. It has other uses, a mobile base, a cargo hauler, an explorer, search and rescue. It is easily my go to ship for the future considering how versatile it is compared to the Perseus. (As beautiful as that ship is)
Such a good video. All they have to do is add a good LFG (crew?) function and these will be crewed all the time. THIS is the Sea of Theives/Jump Ship gameplay they are aiming for and I cant wait for it. Glad to have one in the hangar, may add a second one!
Polaris is my family orgs flagship, my siblings, cousins, and a few friends are more than enough to regularly crew her, and she has all the capacity to be the fill in for the Enterprise my family so wanted. Oddly enough, when it came down to a vote between the Polaris and the Carrack, i thought for sure the Carrack would win, bjt my little sisters response as to why the vote was a unanimous Polaris was echoed by all my cousins too. And i quote here... "It has the Proton Torpedoes we need to blow Romulans to hell." I hadnt even considered it before, and now i cant stip thinking, they are right. Any Enterprise fill in needs to be a Torp boat capable of exploration, not an Exploration vessel capable of military-like defense. Just a personal story :)

My issues with the Polaris: 1) In lore, the Polaris is named after a woman with the family name Polaris, when we all damn well know that the Polaris name is actually a reference to the Polaris ballistic missile submarine system. 2) It will be a huge money sink unless CIG provides enough missions that require this kind of firepower. 3) It kind of resembles a blood sucking tick. Still a 10 in my book, though 😅 Oh, and the Idris requires way too many crew. I neither have enough friends to crew an Idris, nor do I *want* to have that many friends. Polaris is the sweet spot for crew, IMO.

The one thing it almost certainly wasn't originally named after when someone at CIG gave it its name was a woman with the last name "Polaris". But the lore team can come up with whatever explanation they want, of course 😀 I just think it is a transparently silly and funny choice by the lore team, so I am mocking it. 10/10 Polaris. I have an Idris M and I'm still deeply in love with the Polaris and see it being much more usable in most scenarios. Great video as usual!
The argument about the chin upgunning is an interesting one, not least of all because we agree on some ideas about gun sizes. In general, guns up to S5 are intended for S2 and S3 targets (all fighters and heavy fighters and some specialist combat role ships) while S6 and S7 guns would be for S4 targets - what I like to call large sub-caps. This particular size category is interesting for its range of complementary combat role ships that fill fleet roles - light carrier, pathfinder, minelayer, gunboat, fighter screening, etc. This is consistent with the Javelin, which has broadside S7 guns with S4 anti-fighter guns attached, giving it plenty of firepower against any dub-cap ship while it's big quad S9 armaments are for smacking around other capital ships. The question is, then, whether what he meant was that the Polsris's new guns would compete in direct fire AGAINST other capital ships, or compete in firepower for covering against sub-capital threats? With quad S4 turrets and a dual S6 or maybe S7 chin gun, it becomes more comparable in screening firepower when compared to its closest relative in the capital lineup, the Idris, which features a spinal mount rather than torpedoes for dealing with capitals. This, I think, is where our opinion on the upgunning differs. I think it will be, at most, dual S7 to give it real firepower against the range of S4 large subcap ships, rather than giving it an anti-cap turret

They will leave it OP until they release the OP Perseus. At that point they will nerf the Polaris (probably torps will be easy to shoot down by missile defence systems or something). Remember that the new shiny is always OP on releaae "by accident" and CIG need to balance it. Perseus is supposed to have better armor and bigger guns but be slower then Polaris so if torps don't take out the Perseus on their own the only thing the Polaris can do is run away. I'm not a fan of the Perseus btw, it's just how I see it playing out in the next year or so.

Best solo daily driver in the game! The only issue I agree with is that yes, everyone and their cats has one. Same problem with the BMM, which is supposedly "rare" and most people I know collect them like if they were Pokemon, having multiple in their fleet. But yeah, Imma use the Polaris alone, and daily, until my NPC will be my imaginecessary friends.
@@billionaireninjas Why stop at S7s? Why not also have a beam weapon as well to knock out Idris at a distance. Maybe duel beam weapons mounted up front or maybe quads so you can kill an Idris in a few seconds. Thats radical.
I was able to CCU my Polaris with 270 Dollars. I never expected to own a Polaris until I recognized how relativly cheap I could get it. I wanted BMM as my Capital. Now I have BMM and Polaris for 500 Dollars in total
10/10 for the Polaris. Didn't know it existed when I was looking at the Galaxy. Then I melted it during IAE and got it, and I can't wait. It literally does everything me and my org do. Yes, it will be all over the verse for awhile, except I guarantee there are more people than not that are just running it with 1-2 other people. Good luck with engineering and stuff coming out. Still can't wait, love RSI ships, so happy it's coming. My org has a lot of people ready for this.

To build up hype in selling the Perseus they will prolly up gun it too around release. All this said, I have almost a complete CCU chain for the Polaris, so I do agree with BN about it being great. Love the review series and keep it up for the final push.
I own 3 "ships." The F7AMkII, the A1 Spirit, and the Polaris. I also have the F8C, but that's usually a Redeemer that I've temporarily melted to get the F8C BIS paint. The Polaris is, right now, *the* ship to bring proper, large scale Org gameplay online (and Pyro. Pyro will literally make everything better). The 2 main "big ships" are the 890J and the Carrack. The 890J can actually serve as a rich mans Polaris right now as you can press it into service as a "carrier", as you can fit a LOT of stuff in the forward hangar, and the cargo area as well. Not as good for direct combat, but it does have a 'battle bridge' which the Polaris lacks. The Carrack, meanwhile, doesn't fit as much stuff, is even more restricted in combat, and honestly I think it's just a ship made boring by the confines of Stanton. I wouldn't want to crew a Carrack. I would LOVE to crew a Polaris. Be it as a pilot or a gunner, it's a ship I want to be on. Even without crew, I can use it to play Star Citizen the way I *want* to. By living in space. I can park my fighter in the bay, warp out ot some random spot off the Quantom Travel Lanes, and just park it in the depths of the black expanse. The major limiting factor for using the Polaris will be finding content worthy of using the ship for. Using a Polaris tochain bounties hunting Constellations back to back wouldn't be super fun. I don't think a Hammerhead is going to stand up well against a S10 torpedo. And full scale PvP doesn't happen that often. XenoThreat is the best contender but that comes around infrequently at best, and hyper buggy *in every one of my experiences for that event*. That means yes, I am one of the unlucky people who did not get to experience the Idris a few months ago. 9Tails Blockade has similar issues to XT, though I've managed to do that mission in the past. The Polaris is upon us, and I cannot wait to see what we do with it.
The torpedos are not manually loaded into the launch tubes. That has been misunderstood quite often. The polaris has 4 launch tubes with one magazine each. The magazine has to be loaded somehow so thats where the loading adapter comes in.
The Polaris was Originally sold only at Invictus, IAE and CitizenCon and only in limited numbers. CIG changed that to just limited time sales, that’s why so many backers have this ship.
I feel like all ships with a front cockpit should have all the cockpit windows be armored where you cant see in from out side but make them visible from the inside when in the crew seats especially for ships meant for combat . They just look to vulnerable. I like the position of the cockpit on the Galaxy and Perseus though.

I'm not gonna lie, I see all Cap and Sub-Cap ships the same way: As useful to me as The Retribution (the King-Ship Killer). You wont catch me in anything larger than the Liberator (unless I stumble across one of the two Bengal Carriers that players will be able to find, repair and claim as their own at some point, then I become a happy hypocrite! lol). Concerning the Polaris: It's torpedoes (and their massive range) are what make it the tip of the spear against Cap-ships, it's turrets and missiles are for everything smaller. It *IS* a great ship but I'm really hoping that everyone who has one can keep their expectations of it's capabilities realistic to avoid potential and unnecessary disappointment, including you @BillionaireNinjas!! i think there was a datamine leak a couple of weeks ago, the polaris now comes with 7 point defence system (S1 bulldogs), 3 top and 4 bottom. Front turret is now a dual S6 bespoke ballistic cannon. The top 2 manned turrets are getting an upgeade to a quad S4 turrets making a total of 4 x 4S4 turrets (HH style). But nothing is finalised until CIG makes it official, so take it with a grain of salt.
I'm looking forward to my Polaris in a few months. I'm not a particularly team focused player but it has most all of what I'd want to do in the game, solo or team work.
Its an amazing ship, which makes me nervous that a ton of other ships are going to get bumped up in both price and capabilities. Especially with this not being hull limited (currently). This ship is so good that I'm nervous for what it means for everything else. Or that its release price is going to make it almost as hard to get as an Idris.
it wont be as hard to get as an idris. its ment to fill the gap made when the idris grew. the polaris likely wont be as combat effective as an idris in space, the idris has a giant rail cannon that cant be shot down with pds Turrets. The polaris has basicly big cruise missiles that can damage bigger ships if its lucky but will most likely be more of a threat to ground targets. in a space fleet or organized good it has a role but as a ground force practicly nothing can drop as much power as 4 size 10 torps flying at your ground units or base. any ship parked on the ground will shit itself if a polaris launches torps at it because there are not many ground capable ships with enough PDS defense guns to counter that many torps. price wise it might go up but idk if i would expect 1500 out of it. this doesnt compete with kraken levels of capability when it could potentially field many many bombers. or an idris with say 3 eclipses inside.
The Polaris will be the 1st ship with a hanger in which anything that fits and sits in it will be able to be refueled, rearmed and repaired! A must for Pyro!
I couldn't decide between them so I have a perseus, a polaris, an idris k and a jav. I doubt the jav will ever make to game, so I'm 90% sure Idris will be the optimal all rounder capital. One thing you gotto remember is that insurance times on these will likely be long, so have at least 2 ships is worth not having downtime.
Quad size 7 would be silly. The Polaris is meant to be a torpedo boat, if they up-gun it more then the Idris will need to be upgunned as well, because it is a gun based military capital and double the price of the Polaris. And all of that would make the Javelin have truly ridiculous guns as it needs more firepower again (being double the price of the Idris). As much as CIG loves to up-gun things to push sales higher, there is no way that this game gets better by slapping multiple guns on every turret - because that is a great deal of art and design work, when if they want the turret to do more damage CIG can simply increase the damage a turret does with the weapons.
It's interesting what ships you'd throw into the hanger. My thoughts were to use the Scorpius and the C8X for "away missions" with a strong single fighter backup (I firmly believe we'll be able to fit both), however McBadgers instead sees it more for it's utility potential, like using a Legionnaire or Mantis. So many great possibilities... but I cannot help but get Star Trek vibes and music in my ears as I think about taking a seat in the Captain's Chair in the Polaris... I hope we'll be able to name the ships also!
Can we expect the Idris to be flyable at the same time? Considering 4.0 is now under evocati test with serveur meshing and the Idris is virtually done, there's a good chance!
The Polaris is really easy to CCU chain to, you can get it for $500 every time there's a sale event like IAE or Invictus. And that's just in 1 day. I'm confident in saying that you could get a Polaris for $250 if you took your time.
My answer on X as to why I would like to crew and not captain, pilot, or co-pilot on a capital ship: "I've got four capitols and though I might technically be the Captain, for the most part, I am just going to crew them. Let others fly the darn things. Or in theatrical terms, I am the producer. Let others be the director and stars of the show."

I had to get one. the more I looked into it, the more I liked it. I bought it with the idea that it could be my mobile base ship. I hope they come out with some good paints. Especially blue. Red has been overdone
The components are suffering from CIGs lack of understand of a unified vision of what space combat should look and feel like, lack of accounting for missing tech, and general inability to just look at the numbers and scale them to a parity people can understand simply by looking at it. Like the difference between a size 1 and 2 gun is next to nothing. While the difference between a size 4 and 5 is almost a 3 fold increase in damage.
The true contest will be Mercantman vs Polaris, given the BMM is getting a hangar and has significant firepower - and with CCUS and original prices, was far cheaper.

Two Perseus versus a Polaris would be quite the matchup. That's roughly the equivalent of 8 Ares and 10 Gladiators taking on a Capital Ship.

The Polaris was Originally sold only at Invictus, IAE and CitizenCon and only in limited numbers.
CIG changed that to just limited time sales, that’s why so many backers have this ship.
This will be one of those "oh crap" ships that scare you when you see one in the wild.
Chances are you'll see one while in one.

I feel like all ships with a front cockpit should have all the cockpit windows be armored where you cant see in from out side but make them visible from the inside when in the crew seats especially for ships meant for combat . They just look to vulnerable. I like the position of the cockpit on the Galaxy and Perseus though.
Id like a system where armor plates can cover up the bridge when needed.

I am taking a differen RSI cap ship over this but I am for sure hyped to finally see it ingame!

I'm not gonna lie, I see all Cap and Sub-Cap ships the same way: As useful to me as The Retribution (the King-Ship Killer). You wont catch me in anything larger than the Liberator (unless I stumble across one of the two Bengal Carriers that players will be able to find, repair and claim as their own at some point, then I become a happy hypocrite! lol).
Concerning the Polaris: It's torpedoes (and their massive range) are what make it the tip of the spear against Cap-ships, it's turrets and missiles are for everything smaller.
It *IS* a great ship but I'm really hoping that everyone who has one can keep their expectations of it's capabilities realistic to avoid potential and unnecessary disappointment, including you @BillionaireNinjas!!

The Polaris is a great-looking sci-fi ship. Another one where I can't see ever owning, but could see flying _on_ with the Yacht Club.
i think there was a datamine leak a couple of weeks ago, the polaris now comes with 7 point defence system (S1 bulldogs), 3 top and 4 bottom. Front turret is now a dual S6 bespoke ballistic cannon. The top 2 manned turrets are getting an upgeade to a quad S4 turrets making a total of 4 x 4S4 turrets (HH style). But nothing is finalised until CIG makes it official, so take it with a grain of salt.
I'm looking forward to my Polaris in a few months. I'm not a particularly team focused player but it has most all of what I'd want to do in the game, solo or team work.
Its an amazing ship, which makes me nervous that a ton of other ships are going to get bumped up in both price and capabilities. Especially with this not being hull limited (currently). This ship is so good that I'm nervous for what it means for everything else. Or that its release price is going to make it almost as hard to get as an Idris.
it wont be as hard to get as an idris. its ment to fill the gap made when the idris grew.
the polaris likely wont be as combat effective as an idris in space, the idris has a giant rail cannon that cant be shot down with pds Turrets. The polaris has basicly big cruise missiles that can damage bigger ships if its lucky but will most likely be more of a threat to ground targets.
in a space fleet or organized good it has a role but as a ground force practicly nothing can drop as much power as 4 size 10 torps flying at your ground units or base. any ship parked on the ground will shit itself if a polaris launches torps at it because there are not many ground capable ships with enough PDS defense guns to counter that many torps.
price wise it might go up but idk if i would expect 1500 out of it. this doesnt compete with kraken levels of capability when it could potentially field many many bombers. or an idris with say 3 eclipses inside.

The Polaris will be the 1st ship with a hanger in which anything that fits and sits in it will be able to be refueled, rearmed and repaired! A must for Pyro!
I couldn't decide between them so I have a perseus, a polaris, an idris k and a jav. I doubt the jav will ever make to game, so I'm 90% sure Idris will be the optimal all rounder capital. One thing you gotto remember is that insurance times on these will likely be long, so have at least 2 ships is worth not having downtime.

Quad size 7 would be silly. The Polaris is meant to be a torpedo boat, if they up-gun it more then the Idris will need to be upgunned as well, because it is a gun based military capital and double the price of the Polaris. And all of that would make the Javelin have truly ridiculous guns as it needs more firepower again (being double the price of the Idris). As much as CIG loves to up-gun things to push sales higher, there is no way that this game gets better by slapping multiple guns on every turret - because that is a great deal of art and design work, when if they want the turret to do more damage CIG can simply increase the damage a turret does with the weapons.

It's interesting what ships you'd throw into the hanger. My thoughts were to use the Scorpius and the C8X for "away missions" with a strong single fighter backup (I firmly believe we'll be able to fit both), however McBadgers instead sees it more for it's utility potential, like using a Legionnaire or Mantis. So many great possibilities... but I cannot help but get Star Trek vibes and music in my ears as I think about taking a seat in the Captain's Chair in the Polaris... I hope we'll be able to name the ships also!

Can we expect the Idris to be flyable at the same time? Considering 4.0 is now under evocati test with serveur meshing and the Idris is virtually done, there's a good chance!

The Polaris is really easy to CCU chain to, you can get it for $500 every time there's a sale event like IAE or Invictus. And that's just in 1 day. I'm confident in saying that you could get a Polaris for $250 if you took your time.
I love the idea of this ship. I do not know how well it will be when put in the game.
My answer on X as to why I would like to crew and not captain, pilot, or co-pilot on a capital ship:
"I've got four capitols and though I might technically be the Captain, for the most part, I am just going to crew them. Let others fly the darn things. Or in theatrical terms, I am the producer. Let others be the director and stars of the show."

I had to get one. the more I looked into it, the more I liked it. I bought it with the idea that it could be my mobile base ship. I hope they come out with some good paints. Especially blue. Red has been overdone

The components are suffering from CIGs lack of understand of a unified vision of what space combat should look and feel like, lack of accounting for missing tech, and general inability to just look at the numbers and scale them to a parity people can understand simply by looking at it. Like the difference between a size 1 and 2 gun is next to nothing. While the difference between a size 4 and 5 is almost a 3 fold increase in damage.
I am going to use the Polaris as a RV **Thumbs up**

Pretty sure that hangar can fit more than one ship depending on the size. I think an Arrow, a C8R and an MPUV-1T would be a good loadout

The Polaris is one interesting ship, but there is so much we don't know about. A tripple or quad turret would be nice though.
The true contest will be Mercantman vs Polaris, given the BMM is getting a hangar and has significant firepower - and with CCUS and original prices, was far cheaper.
