    Thanks this video was huge! The part at the dealership was $385, I ended up finding it on line for $45. The parts guys at the dealership were cool and helped me figure out the part # and printed off a quote and kinda gave a wink wink go buy it somewhere else vibe. I ended up replacing the cables too because the parts guy at the dealership told me my problem was probably stretched cables... it wasn’t, the latch mechanism was definitely broken inside and I had to bust it open, but I figured while I was at it I would replace the cables too. Thanks for this vid though!

    Worked like a charm. Dealer told me it was the hinge in the floor and I would have to remove the floor first. This was Very helpful. Thank you.

    thanks for sharing valuable info! just my 2 cents to anyone who may have the same issue. Before you bust anything, do check if nothing got jammed the door. In my case it was the weatherstrip that came off and got jammed between the door and door frame causing the door latch to be under pressure jamming it. all i had to do is to pull that weatherstrip out and then i was able to open the door. otherwise, the issue was exactly as described in this video and I was getting ready to bust that latch when i - lucky me - noticed that weatherstrip being out of place.

      I pulled the weather strip out hoping that would free up the lock. But no, in my case the problem did require smashing the thing to open the door. Stupid design.

    Thanks bud! I've been beating my head against the wall trying to figure out how to get it unlatched. I had a thought that I would have to bust that part open to get it to work. Thanks again.

    thanks for posting this. My slide door is still stuck and won't open even when moving the bottom linkage by hand. Clearly the mechanism assembly is broken in mine as well, however none of the linkages work (i tried both). Do you have any suggestions that may help? Thanks for your reply in advance.

      Take a screwdriver and bust the whole area around the latch apart. This is how I had to work mine

      @@DualsportDisport Thanks! So just to be clear, the bottom linkage will disengage the door latch ONLY when the mechanism assembly is in working condition? I will break it apart today and see how it goes.

    Thanks for this video. I'm having this problem and having to replace the latch housing but there seems to be two part numbers for the same part (68226180AD and 68226178AD) for my 2017 Promaster 1500. Do you remember the part number you ordered? Can you share where you ordered this part for your fix?

    Thanks, mine's stuck and all the other doors are mechanically deadlocked from the inside. Do you think if I drill say a 3" diameter hole near the lock mechanism, I could flick the bottom latch and open the door from the outside? I was adding insulation to the door as I'm converting it to a campervan, when the door slid shut very slowly. I might have dislodged the cables from the handle or insulation might have fouled the mechanism.

      It's hard to say, flipping the latch for me wasnt enough. I had to literally destroy the latch with a screwdriver and order a new one.

    Sorry to be thick headed, but after watching a bunch of times, I don't understand what busting it open does to allow you to use the bottom linkage to open the door? Was that to identify which linkage opened the door?
    I can move that bottom linkage, without busting it, but the door still won't open! 🤷

    • @jonspurgfin7229
      @jonspurgfin7229 8 місяців тому

      I think it was to just identify how it was supposed to work, and your problem means it’s broken inside the mechanism. I could move the linkages too, but had to bust mine open to get the door to unlatch

    Thanks for sharing this Nate. In your demonstration, after you pressed/hit the bottom mechanism at 2:29, it seems you touched something else after to open it. What part is that? Is it possible to indicate or point it on the the broken/removed part in 1:42

    Hey thank you for your vid. I need to replace a cable (the blue cable going out of the locking mechanism, ie the horizontal one going to the interior handle). It is possible to replace it or do you have to break the plastic box as you did? In other words, is it sealed or can it be disassembled? you're talking about a screwdriver and hammer but I did not understand very well... thank you!

    • @DualsportDisport
      @DualsportDisport  3 роки тому

      Just now noticing this.. yes I think you can take it apart if you are able to get the door open and take the latch assembly out of the door. This will allow you to change the cable from what I can tell but I know when I got the new lash from the dealership it came with the cable already installed so I don't know if it's a different part number or not. I hope this helps thanks for watching

      @@DualsportDisport thank you! I will take the latch assembly out of the door and try. I think the cable is sold with the latch. But I am gonna use a different cable (that I still have to get) because I want to install a different inner handle in the middle of the door. I need to see how the cable end inside the latch assembly looks like in order to get a cable with similar cable end on this side and a cable end compatible with my new handle on the other side. I believe the cable end inside the latch assembly is like a hook with a 90 degrees bend. Do you remember that? Can you confirm? Thank you!!

      @@DualsportDisport I have removed the latch + unscrewed the casing but I cannot open it. It seems sealed or needs some force to open. Does the cable end look like that? www.ebay.es/itm/273740433928
      I don't want to put too much force on the plastic casing and I may leave it like that and try to adapt the existing cable end on the other side to fit my new handle instead. It depends on whether I have a chance to find a cable that fits. Thanks

    • @manu80182
      @manu80182 3 роки тому

      For those who may be interested : to take the cable out of the latch, you need to slide the cable towards the right (when you look at the latch from the cable point of view), with some force (use a screwdriver to act gently as a lever). It comes with a triangular plastic piece which is actually part of the cable. It is an issue to remplace this cable with another reference, because of this plastic part which is part of the cable housing & prevents dust from entering the latch.
