Wow, what a ride, what a well done production and what fantastic scenery. This is a fabulous video with two high end mountain bikers making it happen. Well done to you both.
Walna Scar, Helvellyn, Garburn Pass, Gatesgarth Pass are all also worth a look if you enjoyed what you ride today. All bridleways or byways too, so bikes are permitted.
Lovely video, bunch of us did that exact route a couple of years ago, classic big Lakeland mountain route - finished our ride with a canny pint in the Old Dungeon Ghyll though 😉
Fantastic edit again Andrew ! Been looking forward to this since your Strava upload. The hike-a-bike up Rosset Ghyll is enough to challenge anyone, I couldn't face it as a 1st climb! I place it at my 1/2 way point when doing this loop (starting from Borrowdale).
@@McTrailRider yes, I think that valley can be very sheltered and also aligns southward. The sunlight and heat seem to radiate from all sides. Apparently, even 3 pints of cold beer won't cure heatstroke.
Do it, I’ve been a keen walker and fell runner for years and I moved to biking. I love being able to get about the lakes on my bike, especially routes like this.
It's always sunny on the Lakes ;-) Borrowdale bash is a Lakes Classic, albeit a tad dull due to road sections. However... the decent from Watendlath to Rosthwaite is an absolute banger...and legal. Worth persevering the road sections for this.
I did Borrowdale yesterday and was quite disappointed. This is not really an MTB ride with so much road on the route. This video however, this is a full on MTB ride.
Love the Lakes and this route. So glad you got to ride it and in the Lakes (ps the four passes is ace too 😉). Glad James could show you around. Make sure you get back 👍. Awesome video as always ♥️👍. Also nuts how the clutch can noticeably affect the suspension 🤯
100%, it’s weird having to check to see if the trails allow bikes or not first. Even although there doesn’t appear to be any specific distinguishing criteria. Bridleways appear to be the equivalent of a drovers road in Scotland.
Lovely scenery, great vid. 👍🏻 Dude it's stunning in Scotland here at the moment! Doing the ochils and Glendevon tomorrow so can't wait, sunscreen is packed!
Always fancied mtbing in Lake District, looked ace great riding holiday destination, I'm in the opposite direction for couple of days mtbing Ballater and Tarland first time, excellent footage will attempt to do something similar myself, cheers Andy! 😁
@@McTrailRider Was there as well today amazing trails, everyone I spoke to loved them, torn between going back there and Heartbreak ridge😂 which I can see from my holiday bedroom window, have hired ebike have until tomorrow 5pm so it's one or the other! 🤔
@@McTrailRider It was the climb up Stake after your pitstop at the Glaramara Hotel. The switchbacks seem such an odd feature although there's others in the Lakes.
Great video. On another topic though. I have been watching your channel for quite a while now and I began to wonder...is there an appreciable difference in running costs between your Deviate/Claymore and ebike? What sort of figures are you experiencing...on an annualised basis? Might be a good basis for another video particularly because you are probably better placed than most to comment - given the type and amount of riding you do, plus you have a foot in both camps.
Please advice what tires you use in such terrain because I'm going there soon. And is it tubeless? I have Giant Trance full suspension from 2019 on original tires and they are too soft. Thanks.
Even on Dartmoor the footpath can be better than the bridleways. It's not fair. You are lucky in Scotland. Watch out for the ramblers if you do use a cheeky footpath!
how do you get on with the fidlock bottles? especially the bigger 800ml one? does it rattle much? looks like the design would allow them to rattle like mad, especially the bigger they get?
I highly recommend them. I certainly wouldn’t go back to standard bottles. I’m running two 450ml bottles at the moment and have previously run the 590ml. I’ve just ordered the new 750ml though. I’ve not experienced any rattle with any so far.
that looks great for a fat tyre e bike, but not sure, what do you think? actually after watching the whole video im not sure my e bike would cope to be honest, those bikes are obviously made to withstand that punishment to them.]
Not sure about it being "best descent" that's one that could be debated by many :) You had better conditions for the 1st descent than when we did it as part of a two day ride: ua-cam.com/video/yXbGHQvBaA8/v-deo.html
Great vid much better than my poor attempt at filming it. To be clear you have no legal right to ride on footpaths and open access land, this is very different from it being ilegal. Just saying 😃
@@McTrailRider just for the record the track up Langstrath to blackmoss pot is a track with public access so no issue for bikes, after that it's a foot path up to the bridge. Interestingly most of that section is now a permissive bridalway thanks to the BHS, unfortunately it fords the river before the bridge.
Pure “Fix the fells” vandalism from start to finish. It’s an absolute disgrace. I afraid there’s not many legal routes left that haven’t been destroyed. Honestly I’d stay in Scotland. 😂
A great route, ride and filming as ever Andrew . But I do have to take issue with you about the legitimate trails that we can ride here in England which differs considerably with Scotland. Whilst your comment about riding the footpath instead of the legal bridleway may have been said tongue in cheek, too many 'bikers ' ride illegall trails down here and don't need any encouragement from a self respecting and much viewed biker and u tuber as yourself. We all need to respect our landscapes and keep treadprints to a minimum...you may sense that this is my pet hate about mtbing !!!! Enjoy the remainder of your riding in the Lakes and as always I look forward to your next video.
Looks like our laws might be changing soon to be in line with Scotland's "Right To Roam" - Labour have committed to introducing this if they win the next General Election, possibly meaning footpaths won't be off limits to mountain bikers any more. Personally I think the footpath / bridleway designations in England seem to be mainly quite arbitrary with no real logic behind them.
And by that token the Kinder Scout trespass ahould never have happened, and no one would be allowed in the hills unless they pay some parasite landlord for the right to kill some wildlife. Bollox to the law, and 'legal access'. Ride wherever you like, but do so with respect to all other users and the trails themselves. Make way for walkers and take the time to chat to those you meet on the way. It was illegal trespass that gave the Ramblers the (still too limited) access that they currently enjoy in England and Wales, why shouldn't mtb follow the same trajectory?
The drone put into perspective how awesome that descent really is. Wow!
It’s very good at that 👍👌

Hi Andrew the lakes is my playground and I have to say massive respect for riding those trails they are not for the faint hearted,
That last one was certainly on the technical side of things.

How ironic this vlog dropped when Scotland is so warm. That's Scotland for you. Hope you manage to get out this week.

Something to look forward to at least 👍
Great ride and vid Andy, really enjoyed watching.

Wow , that swim in lake looked amazing . Great riding and scenery as usual .
It looked nice, but not nice enough for me to bare the cold 🥶
Gets pretty warm in Langdale when it' sunny. Wife and I camped at Angle Tarn one summer and got heatstroke walking back down to Old Dungeon Ghyl.
It was the lack of wind that made it wise when I was there. Heat stroke is no joke. Thankfully only had it once before.

Michelin Enduro race tyres, very heavy and strong.
