    I have just watched 5/6 other vids on how to transplant Peonies and yours is the only one to say 'when' which is of prime importance. Lots of other great tips. This vid was so informative! Thank you so much.

    “May outlive you”? I’m 4th generation in our farm house. I have peonies that my great grandmother planted in the 1920’s that are still growing in the same spot. Never dug up, split, or anything. About a 100ft row of them.

      Wow! I would love a 100 foot row of peonies. I won't live long enough to see mine get that big 😭

      I love peonies especially the blush pink color. I can imagine how pretty are they when your peonies bloom in May. You are lucky to have them

    I was offered today to dig up a tree peonie plant in a garden that is being overhauled and redesigned with new plants. It is the beginning of June. I know it is not the best time of year for this but I have no choice but to attempt to rescue it NOW. Wish me luck! This is a great video.

      Can you let us know how it went? I have peonies popping up in some really bad locations that have to be moved now in May

      @@gardeningjunkie2267 Well, it lived but is taking its time to get really situated or rooted or whatever. I don’t have the greatest soil and I am not the greatest gardener….but if you are careful and help it along maybe with some fertilizer at some point….thank you for reminding me… I will give it some today….it should thrive. I’m in N Michigan so that is something too…short growing season to begin with. Do it! What have you got to lose? Good luck. Peonies are so beautiful, aren’t they?

      @@gardeningjunkie2267 update: it took; the plant is alive but I fear it will be another year yet before it grows and blooms. Better to transplant in the Fall, me thinks.

      @@vestcoat Thanks for letting me know. I had one in a really bad spot, almost no sun and severely stunted. I moved it about a week ago just to experiment. It needed a peony hoop for the entire week to keep it upright but it looks so healthy now! The point I think is don't transplant a happy peony in spring but a miserable one, I think the sooner the better.

    I would agree with everything you said except the fact that the spring after you’ve transplanted a peony, I would not expect many, and oftentimes no flowers at all. Peonies do not like to be moved. If you do move them, do so in the fall. And expect it to be at least two and sometimes three or four years until they fully recover and start blooming proficiently.

    Thanks for your helpful video. I just bought my first peony today at a local nursery. They told me just plant it in the ground but I paid $18 for this plant and I would like to see it do well. Again thank you for your video.

      @Rosariod Miranda That is a good price you paid. We visited peony growers in our area and the prices for the different peonies sold for anywhere from $18 to $170 for the rare plants. Just beautiful though.

      Only $18? The lowest priced one I found was $24 for 1 plant with 1 bloom

    I live in 7a and would like to move my potted peonies into another larger pot. What’s the best time of year to do this? I live at a place where I am not able to put it in the ground.

    This is a very informational video thank you. I bought a couple peony plants at a local nursery and transplanted it into the ground however we've had some hot days and one of them wilted bad. Should I prune off the leaves and let it do it's own thing to recover?

    Hi, will a peony plant survive an emergency transplant in June?

    • @Rinsuki
      @Rinsuki 7 років тому +2

      Probably but I would hold off if that spot is too sunny or it is too hot. I would try to wait until the fall but if you must move it, then move in a pot with potting soil then put it in partial shade. Then bring into unheated room let over winter and plant out next spring. This is what I would do to be cautious though I suppose if it had a healthy system by fall planting it out wouldn't cause shock if you don't disturb the root ball.

    • @el_teeny
      @el_teeny 7 років тому

      Sounds good. It looks like if I do have to move it ll be in the middle of summer, if it goes down that way, I will pot it like you said tin spring, she is so pretty, I don't want to lose her. Thanx for the advice. :)

    I'm moving before aug/ Sept, and I want to move them with me. Their 9 yrs old, and I want to keep my babies. If I move them in end of July, will they survive?

    • @Brockthedog315
      @Brockthedog315 5 років тому +1

      Yes. Get plenty of the rootball keep them watered and mulch them in thru the the heat.
