I'm wondering if the second one you buried a little too deep?? they say if you plant peonies too deep they won't bloom any flowers. I had a big peonie that's never been touched for about 10 years that I moved, it was a huge massive root. I dug it up and decided to divide it into about 20 smaller plants. I'm hoping I have a 100% success rate, these were planted in the ground
Thanks for watching and commenting and sorry we are just seeing this (2 years later)!! The 2nd planting may have been a bit "deeper" than the 1st one but they both bloomed beautifully!! This will be their 3rd year blooming and we cannot wait to see them again!
Peonies are very forgiving flowering plants. Ants love them. Every year, I have to divide a mother peony and transfer it to another location/space I can find around my garden. They always shows up and states to bloom within a year or 2.
I purchased Itoh yellow peony at Costco for $14 a pot 4 years ago. Transferred it to ground, with less intense sunshine, near a downspout of rain roof drain. It did not bloom for 3 years, but it is still alive. Now, 2024 it blooms with 2 beautiful yellow flowers by Memorial Day. I guess it was too young to bloom and it has to be settled before it provides new bloom.
Is there a video showing the itoh peonies at the middle and end of the season? Also - do you know if "in general" peony roots grow horizontally or vertically? I was imagining that you might plant the root at a different angle given all the root growth that was on one side, and pointing it downward would allow more room for root growth..
Yes, peonies can be tricky to plant. Luckily, the beautiful blooms that we've had each year on both plants have been so enjoyable. Thanks for watching!
This year my peonies got buried 3 ft of snow which lasted until mar some didn't make it. Should I cover them with a larger pot to help lessen the moisture around the roots? Thank you
We purchased these from a PNW regional company called Flower Bulb Mania and here are their social acccounts: instagram.com/flowerbulbmania/ and facebook.com/flowerbulb.mania/ Their bulbs are high quality and the owners are very helpful and knowledgeable.
Hi Lori! 👋 That is a great question. 👍 It depends on your growing zone (USDA Hardiness Zone) and how hard your peonies are. Both the Cora Louise and First Arrival peonies in this video is hardy in Zones 3-8, so they have a really good growing zone range and are really hardy, because Zone 3 goes down to -40F. So, by this, if you are growing your Itoh peonies in containers, as long as your outside temperatures don't reach down to -40F, your peonies should technically be ok to be left outside during the winter months. If you have any doubts about this, you can always place your containers up next to your house or garage or greenhouse so they have some residual heat over the winter. So, check your peonies for their hardiness and then compare that to the USDA hardiness zone you are growing your peonies in and that will tell you what you need to do to protect them. Hope that helps and thank you for watching! 😉😃
Hi Sislertx! 👋👋 Great question and we are excited to share this with you! We bought our two Itoh Peonies at the Northwest Garden and Flower Festival in Seattle this past late-winter where we met the owners of Mak Lilies and Perennials Inc located in Stayton, OR. They were very, very helpful and extremely nice people. You can see all the different peonies and other plants they grow and sell at www.mliliesperennials.com . We hope you find the peonies and other plants you are looking for! Thank you for watching and for your question! 😉👍😃👋

Thank you... I need help with a shade area... it gets 3 hours on the morning sun... the rest of the day the are shade time... what kind of plans I can do? Perennials and various colors?
Hi there! Yes, we do leave them outside year round. In our Zone 9a(formerly 8b) they do great in our larger containers. If you are in a lower numbered zone, consider either "heeling-in" your Itoh containers, placing up next to a shed or home, or bringing inside your heated garage for the colder times of year in your area. We say this because of these plants being a containers, their roots are exposed to the colder-harsher temperatures (compared to being planted in the ground and having much more insulation around their roots) which can lead to damage and, in some cases, death of plants. Hope this helps you in your garden and thank you for watching! 👍😊😉
@@SpokenGarden hi, I would like to plant them in a container. However, they say peonies don't do well in containers? How's your experince? are they growing and blooming well. What was the size of your pot?
Yes, we've been growing ours in the same pots they were first planted in over 2 years ago. They're budding up for the 3rd season in a row. These pots were at least 22 inches in diameter (I think we stated exactly in the video). Hope that helps!
These do not rebloom. Itoh do not bloom for a long time depending on your zone. I’m in Pa and blooms last a week. Many take 2 years to bloom from bare root.
@@SpokenGarden Wisconsin, bloody cold in winter, below 5 to 10 a few days and average below 20. It is hard to find plants grow in the shade and comes back every year.

That was my thoughts also , first one good , second appeared too deep. Planting of Itoh peonies is tricky.

Peonies are a new plant for me. Can I keep one in a pot the size you are using for a long time? Thanks Mary

Mine looks like a stick. Problem is which end to plant in dirt
One important tip is never plant Peonies too deep, only a few inches above the tuber is all that's needed,
Happy planting

I'm wondering if you can leave the poeny in the pot for a long period of time.
How wide and how deep is your pot, please?!
Very helpful instructions 😊
Thank you! We're glad this was helpful!
My bare roots did not have any buds so I don’t know if I planted them correctly. Will they still grow?
How did they work out?
Is there anything else that can be planted in the pots with the peonies?
When the flower dies there are three seeds on top, can you plant those to grow more flowers?
Heard that itoh peonies are sterile n produce no seeds.
Can pot planted peonies be left outside throughout the winter months?

Astilbe look into these
peonies need at least 6 hours of full sunshine. my peonies get sunlight from 11am to 5 pm in the summer in London and they took 2 years to bloom.
When will I see growth on my bare root peonies? I planted them in a large pot and nothing has happened. Year two. Help.
so it didn't grow last year at all? If so, I would gently remove the soil and check if the tuber is still nice and firm.
Do you leave the planters outside all year round?

What happened to the peonies$
Sorry we're just seeing this...they are both healthy and budding up like crazy to bloom for the 3rd year in a row.
Why don’t you divide it in a few parts?
because you need at least 5-7 fresh grows to bloom. bigger the plant, sooner the flowers
Great video. Nice to watch a video where the woman isnt half naked to do a Mulch bed.
