    So intense.. Loved the ending personally, I thought it was very fitting for how the characters developed... especially Pope. It only made sense that he wouldn't let J die like that. This was J's story to begin with anyway. There was tons of foreshadowing throughout the whole show. Probably my favorite series of all time now honestly. I've loved watching it so much. You know... I couldn't agree more. Smurf Cody is the real villain because of what she made her kids do, like the things that they're not proud of, especially abandoning Julia while she was pregnant with J. Smurf is to blame! I don't want to take this the wrong way about Smurf but she was a horrible mother!

    I wish there were just a few more episodes or a longer finale, with flashbacks of the struggles Julia face with having/ raising J. For instance when he was a baby...to him being a toddler or child, maybe asking about grandma...to her telling him about the family business...Smurf...that stuff....I felt that would have made the story come full circle.

    • @michelleklotz2245

      I agree there’s so much to know on Julia’s end that we didn’t get to know. J’s early life and why he called Smurf in the first place, makes you think he knew nothing about Smurf and the family.

    • @eventingirl001
      @eventingirl001 2 роки тому +9

      Also, I don’t know if they ever touched on this (I didn’t have the time to catch up on the series, so my knowledge is spotty), but who’s to say Smurf never kept up on Julia and J. Smurf couldn’t have Julia around because she threatened her power with the boys. Julia was smart and yeah was it stupid to steal from Smurf, but Smurf could have nipped that in the bud and maybe set Julia up somewhere else; expanding her territory with Julia. Smurf could have found out about J and watched him grow until he was at the right age for her to swoop in and take him under him wing. Maybe she paid Julia’s dealer to give her a hot shot. I think if at the end scene, there was a final flash back to Julia talking to little kid J or maybe a different scene that has the same effect of J whispering in Smurf’s ear at the end of the pilot. Something where he is younger than the pilot and thinks “if I have the chance I’m going to destroy Smurf” or ULTIMATE TWIST: J killed Julia. Yes, he wants revenge for what they did/didn’t do to/for her but really they were both suffering. What life did either of them really have? Julia was so deep in addiction and what childhood did J have? It was only a matter of time before Julia overdosed again but how long till he could get an in with Smurf. She would never take him in if he was too old or too independent. Smurf liked them young and impressionable; she liked being Mrs. Robinson. That’s my thought but I do agree, while the finale was great, I could have used more flashbacks or maybe 2 hour/2 part finale. Maybe there will be a movie where Deran tracks down J. Could include more flashbacks of Smurf and the brothers???

    • @michelleklotz2245
      @michelleklotz2245 2 роки тому +5

      @@eventingirl001 from my understanding it wasn’t mentioned in the beginning of Smurf being in touch with Julia. I think where writers and producer went wrong is when they started the flashbacks in season 4 they didn’t realize how much they would need to touch on in the past with Smurf and Julia. They announced season 6 would be the last season when season 5 was renewed. Also TNT merged with Warner Bros and TNT is not doing scripted series anymore makes you wonder if this has anything to do with the way the show went. The finale could have been longer I’ve never seen a hour and fifteen minute series finale and it wasn’t the best finale so much could of been said both in flashbacks and the present moment. Everyone wants a sequel with Deran going after J but will it be worth watching without all the brothers?

    • @eventingirl001
      @eventingirl001 2 роки тому +3

      @@michelleklotz2245 I didn’t realize tnt was no longer doing scripted series. Lots of networks are going scorched earth I guess. It sad to see because TNT had put out great scripted shows. I do agree that the flashbacks should have started earlier, maybe even a few sprinkled in when Smurf was still alive. I don’t remember it being mentioned that she had contact with Julia but maybe J didn’t know of any contact. I was thinking that maybe a flashback of Smurf watching J or meeting with Julia’s dealers, I don’t know. Something that showed while Smurf didn’t contact Julia or helped her out in any way, she was still this shadow in her and J’s life and that she had plans for J eventually. I think TNT was ambitious with how dark some of their productions got. I think many people just know TNT for reruns of Supernatural, Charmed, etc. Animal Kingdom or the canceled too soon Good Behavior could have easily been on AMC, FX or Netflix (possibly HBO Max if it had been around). Suffice to say, TNT had a good pedigree of shows but I think they realized the direction they should have gone in too late. They did a great job of deviating from the original movie, everything was well written and acted. I don’t know why Smurf was written out but I think the writers realized how well the flashbacks worked and couldn’t necessarily backpedal. An hour and 15 min is a weird time for a series finale; that extra 15 for an hour and a half or even 30 minutes would have been real clutch. I almost wish the writers and producers did a limited series prequel series to animal kingdom that could lay the groundwork between Smurf and Julia. Then, in seasons 4, 5, and 6 the flashbacks would still be key and the writers would have a bit more freedom. There would have a foundation in the limited series but the writers could insert different flashbacks that could have been just as or more important to the series but maybe wouldn’t have fit without the backstory laid out in a prequel.

    Pope, drowning in guilt and pain over what has happened to the family these last few seasons. Saw all the pain, anger, and justified vengeance in J's eyes once J was finally honest about why he betrayed them. It's because they abandoned Julia and J to live and die in the gutter until Julia OD and J was "useful" to Smurf as part of the criminal organization with his brains, nerve, and guts. Even after everything Julia did with being an addict and a bs mom, J still loved her and wanted revenge on the people who had in a way caused her death. Though I wonder if Smurf's treatment of Julia for stealing is worse or better than what she did to Baz for stealing. Cause she had Baz killed bloody and violently. While in a way she still killed Julia, she left her to a slow death that just took longer than Baz. Something I wish the show had done instead of showing us so much Smurf in flashbacks and such. Shows Julia and J in flashbacks, showing Julia as a mom, the good and the bad. Considering her death is such a giant part of the show from start to finish, we don't really know that much about what went on with them.

    Mixed feelings on the finale. Overall a solid way to bring closure to a lot of characters. I wonder if they didn't have to break Pope out if J would have ever screwed them over like this. I'm glad he gets to speak up to Pope about why he did it, would have been nice for the rest of them to know. Even though I can understand J's justification, I think trying to kill them was unnecessary. He could have left with the money and not left a trace. But it shows how corrupted J has become with his pursuit of money and revenge. All of them having pretty sad ending made sense for a show like this. Pope did right by Julia in the end. Craig died protecting his younger brother. Deran will lookout for his bro's family. J has all the money he needs but no one to spend it with.

      It’s not that there deaths were unnecessary I think he left it more as, you reap what you sow. They never came to help him or Julia so why should he help them in their biggest time of need. The brothers could have easily just gotten caught or surrendered. I could have used some more back story; maybe a 2 hour or 2 part finale. Julia was so deep in addiction and J probably never had a childhood at all. It was only a matter of time before Julia overdosed again but how long till he could get an in with Smurf. She would never take J in if he was too old or too independent. Smurf liked them young and impressionable; she liked being Mrs. Robinson. This twist would have one, shown how ruthless he really was and the extent to which he was willing to go for revenge. Two, he said that he was going to take it all away from Smurf; she may have cast Julia aside and cut her off but I am sure that Smurf used Julia any time the boys ever stepped out of line. J “took away” Smurf’s reminder of the power she had. Smurf abandoned Julia as a kid; the boys thought that she would never do that the them, too many years and jobs behind them. Anytime Smurf betrayed someone in those early seasons, it proved to the Brothers and Baz that she could just as easily do that to them. They were no different than Julia, blood or not. Maybe there will be a movie where Deran tracks down J. I would like to see how that ultimately plays out.

J yelling at Pope would have this tinge if is he trying to get out of it or is he just like “fuck you”? J has had moments where he is just quiet and laser focused just like Pope. Smurf was always too cock sure of herself and her ability to keep the boys in-line with the uncomfortably sexual undertone with the boys. J must have felt disgusted when he got to the house and saw how close they lived to him and all the stuff they had. Also, they weren't really allowed to talk about Julia because of Smurf, so a lot of resentment built up inside of him over the series that was never able to be expressed because they all know they messed up, but no one wants to be confronted by it. I laughed when Craig and J were by the pool, and Craig says he had fond memories of Julia and never had anything against her. So, why didn't he ever try to contact them? @FinnCole-rg4he the show, the acting. All of the above. Kudos to you for your acting as well. Jay looks like this innocent kid, but behind that innocent face, he was planning and moving the chess pieces in place. Amazing 👏🏻

    i had a feeling throughout the whole series that daren was always thinking out of box he was very uneasy about j at first but then he eventually built trust for him i mean this goes for all of them but daren was serious and daren also seemed to think the most logically and not irrationally but its sad overall because they did grow to care about j but j felt it was all there faults what happened to juila but it wasn’t.

      They didn't do it directly to Julia. But they literally couldn't find a bone in their body to help her. They abandoned Julia completely.

    I hated how this ended. Pope was one of my favorite characters. Jay I felt like damn….. they finally trusted you and let you in and dang…..honestly I got mixed feelings. I definitely felt for Julia.

    This is all Smurf's fault. She psychologically destroyed two generations of her family. Her sons, Lena and J.. All their scars stemming from her narcissism.
