Hot Chase Longplay (Arcade) [QHD]

- Developed and published by Konami in 1988
Released in 1988, Hot Chase feels very much like Konami's high-octane answer to Sega's OutRun, and Taito's Chase H.Q. This is yet another technically impressive sprite-based racing game with fancy sprite-scaling tech, and it's pretty good fun.
I guess Konami's approach was to simply keep the core driving mechanic, but reverse just about everything else. Instead of chasing down criminals, you're the one who's on the run, and whereas Chase H.Q. involved slamming into offender's vehicles to do damage, the objective here is to avoid taking damage for as long as possible.
Given that you'll be assaulted by everything from gunships to RPG-equipped troops, this is easier said than done. You'll need to have quick reactions to deal with obstacles in the road ahead, and driving off-road through forest, scrubland and glacial ice-flows is sure to keep even the most adept driver on their toes.
Overall, Hot Chase is decent showing from Konami, certainly better than WEC Le Mans, their other arcade racer released around the same time, mainly because it's possible to actually beat Hot Chase!

"hey, what if we took outrun and made it the polar opposite of chill"
"oh, you mean like a... hot chase?"
1988 was possibly the best year ever for arcades. This was another classic i remember playing at Pizza Hut
That's awesome. For some reason I have the most intense nostalgia from playing arcade games in my dimly-lit but magical Pizza Hut around the late 80's/early 90's.
@Hausbrauen me to, it would have been the late 90s early 2000s for me but the local pizza hut had a Daytona USA and it seemed so magical at the time.
you have succeeded in stealing
the enemy armoured super car
and have crossed the border
to freedom
after a few days the enemy
surrendered to our country
you will be forever remembered
for your brave deeds
thanks a million!!
LOL
Pop quiz hotshot - there's a bomb in your car, and it's gonna explode if you run out of quarters.
What do you do - what do you do?
This game deserves a remake. It's epic !
We really need a remake with current graphics and physics of this.
So the plot is that you have bomb in the car and you have limited time until it explodes and destroys the car. Therefore you must hurry, avoid obstacles and heavy enemy fire, keep the car running so you can cross the border so you can shoot the car yourself to destroy it.
I think my mind exploded with that car.
I mean I doubt crossing back to allied territory on foot would go so well. I also doubt you can steal another car either when helicopters are gunning for ya. :V
But yeah, -Capcom- Konami moon logic at its finest.
Don’t forget that you either escaped from an exploding jail or exploded a jail yourself in a Porsche, with a nuclear bomb.
@@Davtwan FYI it's Konami moon logic.
@@mwelle1 - o no
Ok, here's the final question, for one million dollars. You're driving a car in which a bomb has been planted. What do you do to avoid detonation?
A. Jerk violently from side to side.
B. Smash with great force into obstacles in the road.
C. Take ramps and other leaps, after which you will make a very hard landing.
D. All of the above, at speeds of up to and exceeding 300 km/h.
Well, you chose D? Makes sense.
"Some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb! 💣"
- Batman (1966 Movie)
Wow, I can’t believe that this game’s soundtrack uses 3 Konami K007232 sound chips as the only sound chips in the game!😄🤩😎👌
Been looking for the name of this game for years, I remember playing it at my friend's family corner store like 20 year ago, and it was hard as balls to me back then lol
That ending
u stole a car to drive it to the border and to blow it up? what a Duke Nukem thing to do.
It took balls of steel.
Another Porsche 959 game. Must have been quite popular at the time. Also in OutRun Europa and Big Run. This looks a lot like Big Run but with added danger!
The sprite scaling looks so blocky and pixelated compared to Outrun, it's hard to believe this came out a while later. There's even slowdown in a lot of places!
The sprite scaling in OutRun is done with care and knowledge. This looks like something thrown together in a couple of days. :-/
The scaling on this is more advanced than outrun which is basic. Look at the road tilting and other things
@Matheus Luft This vid, like most all on this particular YT channel, has shit low-framerate and/or skipping frames and/or poor emulation, so I would NOT draw any conclusions about a game's actual appearance/animation/scaling from this video.
@Matheus Luft I don't know the current state of MAME's emulation of Hot Chase, although I'd expect it to be very good because a number of Konami games used the same support chips, so the emulations are probably very well-developed by now. Either way, this video is still a poor representation of the coin-op.
@Matheus Luft So that's why it seemed as if the game were running at 30 fps during gameplay when on MAME
Porsche more durable than a tank, big buff dude, corny ending, and VW Beetles going 120 MPH.
It doesn't get any more 80's than that.
The driver is the Doomguy. Only him could destroy the car like this.
Cactus, stone pillars and giant rocks everywhere. Someone really needs to fix those roads, before an accident happ...oh too late.
This looks really neat here!
These roads sure could use some maintenance! XD
8:20 The Driver is resemble Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Terminator).
Thanks a million!🎉
I would lose patience if I were to start all over again
DF ? If there's a bomb in the car, why don't they just abandon it and run away ?
Hot News: Local man is fricking unstoppable.
Also the car's engine specs. 36 cylinder and make that flat... what?
Adrenalina pura!
Vistas cansadas também...
Wondering if Speed movie got inspired from this game
This is nuts!!
3:40 - road goes left. Car turns right.....but goes left with the road. :-/
Haha "Thanks a million!"
"Thanks 4 million!"
Vin Diesel childhood
How much I've always liked that Porsche model.
Unfortunately the game is visually not on par with Outrun which yet came out one or two years prior.
Awesome. 😘🌈 Nice upload my friend.😊 Like it. 🤗👍
Considering that "Out-Run", "Hang-On", "Super Hang-On" and "Wec Le Mans" all came out earlier than "Hot Chase" and "Chase HQ" came out the same year, shows that it should really have been called "Hot Mess"' a reasonable idea executed terribly.
It’s mainly emulation problems in this case.
The super armored car that blows with some uzis shots 😑...
The bulletproof glass is not really bulletproof.
It is on the car, the enemy was just shooting the poor cameraman keeping up!
Holy shit.
The sense of speed is pretty bad, the scaling isn't very good and kida block, the framerate suffers at many time.
But boy, you must admit, it's impressive the AMOUNT OF SHIT the devs throw in just like 8 minute of gameplay. Whole crap is this intense.
Typical Boston commute.
What Mame version is this to get 60 fps?
I remember this game in the local Pizza Hut. I don't think anyone actually liked it, especially not compared to Road Blaster.
Strange road...
Could someone please explain the story? - I am stealing an experimental car with a bomb to cross the boarder, only to destroy it afterwards?!? Finally the enemy surrenders? How does this all make sense? 🤔
You're basically agent spy who infiltrated the enemy base headquarter who has built super armored car for war that can withstand bullet, explosives and obstacles. Unaware of agent, there's a bomb laden installed inside the car that activated for unauthorized use. Knowing the enemy on high alert, you have no choice but decided to use the armored car to escape and blow up the car once you crossed the border and get out of the car. The enemy have no superweapon destructive now and surrendered. That's the story
cool~~~~
very old game。
Sounds like Wacky Wheels
