Yeah, I always took it as the ongoing time wars have just scrambled everything up so badly. Humans and machines trying to get a step ahead in each new timeline.
Pretty much. Each of these timelines all had the same "Prime" timeline I guess you would call it. The timeline Kyle Reese came from. And it's safe to say that the Kyle we see in T1 was not the first Kyle to go back in time, one big loop that was broken in T2 leading to T3 and Salvation. And then once again broken in 1973 creating the Genisys timeline that plays out extremally different. And then finally Dark Fate, spoilers but we know what happens. Skynet sending Terminators at different points in time just ends up creating a bunch of "alternate timelines"
@@CaptainAmercia So basically Skynet didn't understand time travel and gained nothing from making new time lines, except create those in which they 'won'.
Timelines: *Kyle Reese Timeline* - Timeline Kyle Reese came from in the original film Terminator 1 - *1984* John Connor Born - *1985* Judgement Day - *1997* Kyle Reese Born - *2003/2004* Future War - *1997 to 2029* Skynet Defeated, T-800 & Kyle Reese sent to 1984 - *2029* *Movie Timeline:* -Timeline we see from Sarah and Johns point of view. Terminator 1 - *1984* John Connor Born - *1985* Terminator 2: Judgment Day - *1995* (Delays Judgement Day) Kyle Reese Born - *2003/2004* Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - *2004* Judgment Day - *2004* Terminator Salvation - *2018* *Genisys Timeline* Skynet Sends a T-1000 back in time to kill a 9 year old Sarah Connor - *1973* Sarah saved by the "Guardian" a T-800 from the future - *1973* Skynet sends a T-800 to 1984 like the original timeline but it's intercepted by the Guardian and terminated by Sarah - *1984* Kyle Reese arrives in 1984 but is intercepted by a T-1000 and rescued by Sarah - *1984* John Connor arrives to 2014 bringing future knowledge of how to help Cyberdyne systems in creating Genisys - *2014* Sarah & Kyle travel to a future where Judgement Day never happened - *2017* Sarah and Kyle destroy the Cyberdyne building along with the T-3000 John Connor - *2017* The Genisys timeline is alot easier to understand once you see it written out. The Terminator timelines are like one big loop so before the events of Genisys it pretty much played out like the first film so kyle saved Sarah from the T-800. John Connor is then born and leads the Human resistance aganst the Machines with future insight from his mother who was informed about the future by Kyle Reese. But once this version of Kyle goes back to 1984 this is when everything changes, he's pretty much expecting everything to play out like the first film as that's what Sarah told John what happened who then gave that information to Kyle.
They were planning on making this a "Part 1 of 3" and answering all the loose story threads by the end of it.. Which COULD have retroactively made this one really good by the end of it, but we'll never know because of how poorly this one was received.
I see a lot of people complain about the state of movies today and frankly that's the problem. People want to blame writers when they and some directors have less and less say in what they're doing. It's arrogant executives thinking they know how to write and direct, when they're really just attempting to ape the most shallow aspects of popular films without understanding why they are successful.
It was poorly received because some believe judgment day was stopped at the end of T2, which it can't be stopped. Some believe this is an insult to the T1, which I don't believe it is so. Messing with time changes things. The 1st two movies changed things, created another timeline. At least that's what I think, I love all of these. But admit T2 is the best of them all
It was poorly received because it doesn't make sense. And they wanted to girl boss it and make John Connor (white male) evil. They also tried to retroactively redo two of Hollywood's arguable best movies even tho the audience has rejected the last 2 movies and the Sarah Connor Chronicles was good but canceled.
So yes like other have said this film follows the future war depicted in the first film, At least a version close to what we saw in the first time, The Future War where Kyle Reese came from. That Future War began in 1997 and then in 2029 the resistance lead a final strike on the Skynet core, before the core went down Skynet sent a T-800 back to kill Sarah Connor (The T-800 we see in Terminator 1) and then of course Kyle Reese went back in time to stop her. Terminator 3 takes place in a timeline where Judgement Day was delayed to 2004 (Thanks to Sarah Connor in T2) and then Terminator Salvation happens in this same timeline within an alternate Future War where began in 2004 instead of 1997 so a few changes like how certain people met to slightly more modern weapons, vehicles etc. That's why John meeting Kyle is different in this version. But what we see in this film is an alternate version of T1. Kyle comes face to face with a T-1000 waiting for him in 1984 (Did not happen in the original film) while a decade before this in 1973 Skynet sent a T-1000 back to kill Sarah when she was a kid this creating a whole new timeline. Sarah's family died but she was saved by a T-800 who was sent back in time by someone we don't know. Sarah was then trained by this T-800 into a badass. We also have Matt Smiths character who attacked John Connor in the beginning. My theory around him is he's the embodiment of Skynet from an alternate timeline where Skynet was much more advanced.
Part of the negative reception could be because the marketing released a trailer that flat out showed the spoiler that John Conner was turned into a Terminator, which completely killed the novelty of the movie.
Certain people at Hollywood seem to believe spoilerous trailers attract people... No idea why, but I ain't watching basically any trailer anymore since 2019
Also, the two season TV series is genuinely worth watching. It is yet another branched timeline taking place after T2, and probably the best continuation.
I had seen the other films before I had watched this one but this one holds a special place in my heart with it being the first/only one I got to see in theaters. Fun experience.
Based on how Haley and Stella both always react to seeing Arnold and also how they react to seeing kids in films, I think they would both love his movies Kindergarten Cop and Twins. For me, the highlight of the movie was actually seeing Schwarzenegger fighting Schwarzenegger. Unfortunately, it barely lasted that long at all. I would've enjoyed a sequel to this movie, but I honestly did not like it enough to want a sequel either. It also bombed at the box office and so, no sequel was made to it. The next "sequel" ignores every sequel after T2. Personally, I think all the humor was misplaced and misused in this movie. I enjoyed it for what it was, but I think I would've liked it more without the humor and it just had too much going on that it became almost silly, IMO. In the Terminator 2 novel, there is a part where the rebels break into Skynet, walk down a corridor of other Terminator models and find 2 empty pods at the end. 1 of them is for the Terminator sent back to 1984 and the other one was for the one sent back to 1995. I always wanted to see that shown in live-action. The start of this movie was promising, but I thought the futuristic sequences looked too clean-cut and almost like a video game. I honestly think it would've added a lot more nuance & changed the emotional resonance of the whole franchise, not to mention close up a plot-hole, if Sarah had never told John in the first place who his father was. Personally, I never liked that even back in T2, John already knew who Kyle Reese was. If Sarah never told him, John never would've known he was sending his own father back in time to die but was just sending 1 of his best soldiers, which would've made that action even more emotional for us. That would've also meant everything John did growing up really was of his own making and not based on some future he already knew. I personally thought the story in this movie was interesting and I would've actually enjoyed a sequel, but at the same time I feel it was just too convoluted and messy overall to follow, not to mention undoing the events of the 2 best Terminator films of the franchise. Actually, I think it may have been more interesting to have the film show the events before this film. I said it before and I'll say it again, the Sarah Conner Chronicles TV series was a return to form and also is what I consider the truest sequel to T2, returning the franchise to its horror roots and also making it more sci-fi and not just a straight-up action film.
Your like me you thought the plot had potential but the script needed a lot of work. Also the casting for Kyle and John in this was god awful. The original Kyle looked and acted like someone who lived in the post apocalypse he was skinny, scared, and had PTSD. He didn't look like he got three square meals a day with afternoons in the gym(and everybody in the future was too damn clean. Where were they getting the soap and shampoo?). And John. John was never shown as baby faced. In any version...this guy looked more like a mid level manager than the leader of a military resistance.(and also a bit too well fed for living in the apocalypse). Clark was ok but her and the new Kyle had horrible chemistry. Casting director really dropped the ball on this one.
Yeah I think Twins would be a good fit, because Arnold really hit his stride toying with preconceptions about his demeanor. It's been ages but I remember liking that quite a bit. I'd also be curious to see them watch Predator or Commando where he had zero campiness and was full tilt 80s action guy.
@@markcarpenter6020 "this guy looked more like a mid level manager...", LOL! That's awesome! I know this movie came out years ago, but I am so honestly done with nanotechnology being overused in movies now. It seems almost like a cheat code now. I remember first learning about nanotechnology in a seminar decades ago and thought it sounded really cool and honestly, I even thought nanotechnology could actually be used to make real-life lightsabers. But, now nanotechnology is so overused as like a catch-all-be-all to do just about anything. As I mentioned in my comment, I enjoyed the movie for what it was and think I would've even enjoyed the sequel, which I think could've been much better. But, overall, the movie was too convoluted, did away with what made the first 2 Terminator movies so special, and was more of a straight-up action movie. I am a big action movie fan, but sci-fi horror is the root of the franchise. I thought individually, each of the cast was good. But, yep, I agree the chemistry between Emilia Clark and Jai Courtney was just not there. It was not bad, but just no connection there.
@@hanziggy6862 he had more chemistry with Arnold than Clark. And I agree it moved too far from it's horror Roots but I have been complaining about that since T2. Yeah nano tech is Hollywood's new magic(like computers back in the 80s. However I have to disagree about Courtney. He was miscast period. Compare hime to Reese in the first movie and it's obvious how miscast he was.
@@Giant-Jonny Interestingly enough, after I saw the movie Extraction 2 (really great movie, by the way), I saw that interview Hemsworth did where he talked about meeting Arnold in the gym and Hemsworth talked about how there was an homage in the film to Commando (I love Commando!). That then led me down a series of rabbit holes where I then learned and never knew before that the original ending of Commando was different and was rewritten at the last minute specifically to try to outdo what Stallone did near the end of Rambo 2 (previously, called just Rambo before First Blood was renamed to Rambo). I think Arnold was really good in his comedies. I even thought Junior was pretty funny too and I think Jingle All the Way is almost as iconic as a must-see Christmas movie as National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation or Elf, no joke. I think many of Arnold's early films are underrated and not really that well-known at the time. I loved both Raw Deal and Red Heat! He was also hilarious in Hercules in New York. There was a later version released with his original voice not dubbed. I think Arnold has a lot of underrated movies like End of Days, Collateral Damage, The Last Stand, The 6th Day, Sabotage, etc. People know him primarily as the biggest action 90's guy and he was, but he had many other movies outside that era that were underrated and he played against type.
Fun fact: This movie is the ONLY ONE in the franchise where Arnold's T-800 gets to live at the end. And, personally, I choose to believe that the franchise ended with him becoming an almost grandfather-esque figure to John and that everyone gets to live happily ever after.
@@wettuga2762 In what way did he/she spoil Dark Fate? Seriously he/she didn't. Arnold's T-800 living or dying is a minor thing. In fact most fans by now would have expected his Terminator to die anyways given that in T1, T2, T3 and Salvation he died. Genisys is an outlier.. If there had been a T7 and Arnold came back again I would have been surprised if he lived.
Due to this movie bombing at the BO they never continued with the story, so it's unresolved. The next movie, Dark Fate, ignores every movie from 2 onwards and acts as a 3rd movie.
I'm not really a fan of this movie as a whole, but the opening sequence in the future, leads into the original film so well and it's absolutely incredible.
This was the best one after the first two movies (it's not telling much, but still). The opening was done very well, future war was more or less fine, terminators stopped throwing people away from them, Emilia Clarke was pretty good as Sarah Connor, always great to see J.K, Simmons and his character was a nice contrast to Dr. Silberman from the originals, etc.. On the other hand, the John Connor robot was really out there, the timeline was very convoluted, skynet being a mobile phone app was awful and this Kyle Reese just didn't work for me. Still, a lot of people hate on Genysis but I think it's better than T3, T4 and T6.
@mrb2349 I agree with you about the elements that work and those that don't, in another, better-written movie, her version of Sarah could have been a much loved interpretation.
3:19 - The opening scene is the original timeline, the new timeline starts after sending kyle back through time, that is where the new timeline moves judgement day to 2003.
This movie was a fun ride! Glad to see Arnold back in action once again! Before Emilia Clarke was cast as Sarah Connor, Brie Larson, Tatania Maslany, and Emily Blunt were considered for the role. Clarke worked with director Alan Taylor on several episodes of Game Of Thrones. Before Jai Courteney was cast as Kyle Reese, Garrett Hedlund, Boyd Holbrook, and Tom Hardy were considered for the role of Kyle Reese. Alan Taylor did not have a good time making this movie, as Clarke in an interview that "he was being mistreated by the producers, telling him that he didn't know how to make an action scene work, or how to help the stunt team pull off n impossible stunt,or how he didn't bother to read the script, letting the actors do what they want." Clarke was a happy that the sequel was cancelled, as she didn't want to star in a franchise that treats its directors poorly.

While loading the mags before hand would have been time saving, loaded mags should be rotated out at around the six month mark so as to not damage the spring. Of course, knowing when you might NEED the ammo is very handy. Like if you could predict the future or something. . .
Quick gun fact: the weapon Reese was using in 1984 that was unexpectedly explody was a normal M16 rifle (or something similar, kinda tough to see in the dark) with a barrel mounted M203 grenade launcher (perfectly normal in '84). So at least there there's no weird anachronisms. Also IMO, it makes perfect sense that Sarah wouldn't be too preoccupied with how fashionably her hair is, given she's been trained to survive since age 9. This movie really does try its best to tie in all the loose ends, and mostly succeeds, if you don't mind a bit of comic book deus ex machina. I enjoyed it plenty more than 3 and 4, even if the John Connor thing was pretty weak.
I think the plot was good but the script needed work and the casting for John and Kyle was awful. The original Kyle looked like a war survivor. Skinny, scared, with PTSD. New Kyle looks like a well fed dude who hits the gym regularly with none of the originals desperation (not mentioning his lack of chemistry with Clark). And the new John was also too well fed and had a face completely different from any other depiction of John. New guy is too baby faced and looks more like a mid level manager than the leader of a resistance.

And the new John just doesn't feel like a fighter. He feels like the "nice guy" friend girls have. I just can't picture him standing toe to toe with a biker much less a T-800. @@oaf-77 Red Heat is amazing, it's pure 80s Arnie action cheese. Of course it's better than Genisys, because in the eighties they actually made movies from real scripts and not loose outlines written entirely for the concept rather than the themes and ideas.
1:10 they should’ve left the movie running for a hour like this! You can literally show Arnold’s name for the entire movie and it will be a good movie! They have to ruin everything and make crazy weird stuff, terminator 7 just make a hour of his name!
As for the ALIEN franchise, I can't talk about ALIEN 3 or ALIEN: RESURRECTION, but I can talk about the prequels; PROMETHEUS and ALIEN: COVENANT, directed by Redley Scott, and I highly recommend you watch them. The expansion of the ALIEN universe in those two is quite interesting and worth watching, because it answers some questions from ALIEN 1, although they also raise others.
You can't store loaded magazines for long periods. It degrades the spring being under constant tension. While tedious and annoying, it's a task that you have to do, more or less, before you start shooting.
Many people listened to critics and didn't watch these movies. Recently I have begun watching reactors and they all loved it. People should not listen to critics. I learned that a very long time ago.
Thing is there’s a lot of die hard Terminator 1 and 2 fans who don’t care for the others movies as well. When it comes to reaction videos, the majority of the reactors have never seen any of the Terminator movies before so they don’t have the attachment to those first two that the die hard fans do. For me I don’t hate any of the Terminator movies; I think 3 onwards are all good but not great, but considering how great the first two films are, having good but not great sequels to two great movies is definitely a disappointment.
I don't know why film critics exist. They're almost never in line with fans and it's absurd to have "professional" movie watchers at all, like their opinion is somehow better than the average person.
Hello Ladies! Nice to see you enjoying this movie. "I thought that was a normal gun....." Actually, Hailey, it is. 2 Normal guns. It is basically an M16/M203 tandem. The M16 is the standard M16 assault rifle, mated with the M203 grenade launcher below the M16's barrel. Shoots 40mm grenades, single shot then you need to reload. That doesn't stop the firing of the M16, or its performance.
Lol I love that these two don't know what a grenade launcher is. They're thinking that gun that's causing stuff to explode in the beginning is some future weapon but in reality it's a weapon that's been around since 69😂.
There is a 4D ride/show that Universal used to have called Terminator 2-3D: Battle Across time, it’s about 20 minutes long and has Arnold, Eddie Furlong (John from T2), and Linda Hamilton return as well as James Cameron directing it. I highly highly recommend watching it. It’s probably the best “sequel” to Terminator 2 out there.
The fact that this version of Kyle Reese killed T-800 quickly than the original Kyle is surprising 💀 Edit: Well... tecnically he supposed to be the same Kyle as the original... so that's what happen when a timeline change.
If you are interested in a more fluid storyline following T1 and T2 then I highly suggest watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles. It's way more fun than the other movies in the franchise.
I guess the easiest way to sum up the timeline is everything released after T3 is some flavour of reboot or alternative timeline if you want. T3 is the biggest victim of this but each film/series resets at different points in the series. Confusion is only natural if you don't have someone to tell you or if you don't risk spoiling yourselves with research.
I feel like the way I see it, t1-t4 are part of the timeline where we follow that specific Sarah and that specific John and that specific Kate but t5 and t6 and the show are alternate timelines… in a sense if u really think about it there’s no cycle, no original timeline bc everytime someone or something gets sent back something changes it’s never the same as the previous “cycle” even if it’s just tiny small minuscules changes eventually you’ll get a whole new timeline
I actually think T4 follows up T3 pretty well but T5 and T6 are clearly totally separate universes although T6 felt the need to completely destroy T2 in the first 5 minutes for some reason.
@michaelrandolph6373 I don't like dark fate, but it's not a bad sequel to T2. Then again I'm not the biggest fan of T2 either. The original and T3 are the best 2 in my eyes.
Salvation is a continuation after T3. It's not a reboot or a retcon. Overall I think T3 brought the series full circle and shoulda stopped after that. Genisys and Dark Fate were just money driven excuses to milk a brand name.
I've mentioned before in your previous videos that Terminator: Salvation and Terminator: Genisys are technically stand-alone movies set within their own universe. While Terminator: Salvation CAN be seen as a direct sequel to Terminator 3 it's still considered a soft reboot while this movie is a hard reboot. Also as of Terminator: Dark Fate the movie Terminator 3 is also stand-alone. So basically the timeline goes line this. - Terminator - Terminator 2 - Terminator: Dark Fate. These are all direction sequels of each other as it currently stands. - Terminator 3 ( set within it's own timeline ) - Terminator: Salvation ( soft reboot can be seen as a sequel to T3 ) - Terminator: Genisys ( hard reboot, completely set within it's own timeline )
Just so you know, the next movie (and the last Terminator movie currently) is a direct sequel to Terminator 2. That means the third, fourth, and fifth movies don't exist in its timeline. It's better you know that before going into it so you can skip some confusion.
There was a grenade launcher attached to that gun. Granted they don't explode like that but... yeah. Also the rifle popping that head off is because he was using a pretty powerful rifle (.50 caliber) which they didn't use in other movies. You could explain it by the fact that this is not a rifle you just find very easily and in this movie Sarah and Arnold were a bit more prepared compared to the characters in the other movies so the presence of that gun in this movie kind of make sense... sort of.
@@markcarpenter6020 Never heard of DU rounds for .50 BMG, especially not in the 80s. They were shown to be using some sort of round that can deactivate Terminators anyway, and apparently they're still dense enough to go through their armor like that. Don't really know how that works but... that works.
@@Niitroxyde forgot it was 80a... Still probably some type of AP round...maybe tungsten. (I was in the Marines in the 90s so not sure what the common AP round was in the 80s) Also they make DU rounds for everything up to a 20 mm Vulcan. In 50 cal and up they are considered antitank rounds.
@@Niitroxyde DU became the standard after desert storm. They aren't super common for 50cal cause it's a small cal for anti tank but still useful against APCs . The 20 mm Vulcan is pretty common cause it's used by the A-10 for ground support.or at least that's how it was a couple decades ago lol. It's been awhile since I left the military.
Regarding time ... I refer you to The Doctor himself: "People assume that time is a strict progression from cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey...stuff." (Dr Who. Series 3, Ep 10: Blink).
With Terminator, we only see a few glimpses of the Alpha timeline (unless that’s the setting of Salvation). As soon as the first jump occurs, each story is the starting point to a new and separate timeline. So T1 leads to T2 which then branches into T3 and DF. Genisys is probably spun off of a branch coming from T2. SCC branches off of T3 but seems to pull a Genisys of its own. But who knows for certain? I just enjoy having plenty of Terminator movies. 😁
From what I took from this movie, the timeline has been screwed with so much on both sides with both skynet and the humans changing things so much that there is no longer a set sequence of events. The timeline has been reset so much that it no longer matters. I think that the people who wrote and directed Genisys meant for it to be confusing. That’s not really a good explanation but that’s what I personally got from this movie. Lol
I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. I the first two films weren't lighthearted. They were fun, but they were darker and edgy. I can tolerate the third film, and I was surprised that I enjoyed the fourth when it came out. This and the following movie are just unforgivable, at least for me. It's always nice to have Arnold back, but the first two are some of the greatest si-fi movies of all time. For fans that were there from the beginning, everything else just feels so redundant, derivative and pointless.
All the Terminator films take place in alternate timelines/realities, with only Terminator 1 and 2 (the best ones) directly connected. So Terminator 1 and 2 STILL happened, but in another timeline. The alternate realities explains the different actors playing John, Sarah, Miles and Kate.
this is a reboot which is why its called Genesys , cause its set at the beginning , but not only is it a reboot it is also a sequel like any reboot today. So its made as a reboot but its about time travel which means its set in its own alternate universe where something changed in the past and caused the future to become uncertain
This is when the franchise really starts to get wibbly wobbly timey wimey, which is appropriate since Dr. Who is in the movie. Things get rewritten or just flat-out ignored. But people didn't like how the movie essentially rewrites the chronology of the first two movies, especially how this movie basically erases Terminator 2 - the best movie in the series - from the timeline. Personally, I feel Jai Courtney is miscast as Kyle Reese. He just doesn't have the intensity of a man who has grown up being hunted by killer robots in an apocalyptic wasteland that Michael Biehn and Anton Yelchin brought to the role. Also, the twist that John Connor had become a Terminator was spoiled IN THE TRAILERS. That's a cardinal sin in movie marketing.
I hate that we didn't get to see Emilia Clarke continue as Sarah Connor, I loved Pops, and looked forward to his new abilities! Yes, every film after Aliens ruins the first two movies. Please be sure to react to Prey (2022)!
T3 and up to this movie are not canon. James Cameron said himself that the story line is Terminator, Terminator Judgement Day, and Terminator Dark Fate. So when you watch Dark Fate know that you are actually watching part 3.
The flow of time isn't like a river, singular, but more like a tree with an infinite number of branches sprouting out from the main trunk that starts with the birth of time itself.
After watching Dark Fate, I had an interesting thought. Skynet begins to understand that in each timeline in which it sends back an assassin to kill either John or Sarah Connor, a resistance fighter also goes back to stop it, and it then changes its mission from just killing the Resistance leadership to preserving itself and protecting Judgment Day to ensure it comes to pass. It then begins sending a near-infinite number of machines into various points past-ward along the timeline with kernels of itself to ensure its existence in as many timelines as possible. You've become familiar with the term "causality loop". You know that really, there's no such thing. What would exist in such a case, with innumerable timelines being created and branching off from each nexus point, be it Judgment Day, Skynet's defeat or a Terminator's arrival in a past-ward point on the Prime Timeline, is what is termed a "causality tree". Skynet's new mission is then to create as many branches on the causality tree as possible where it survives and the Resistance is never formed. Needless to say, it tries to cover its tracks but it underestimates the skill of Resistance IT geeks, and they discover its mission and start sending people and reprogrammed Terminators past-ward to prune the causality tree, to ensure Skynet never gets created and that Judgment Day never comes to pass. Might make for a great television series...😊
It's hard to say what direction things would have gone in had this film originally gotten the two planned sequels, but one of the head canon theories for the timeline discrepancy when compared to T4 is that T4 led into potentially a fifth or sixth loop of the timeline that somehow altered the date of Judgement Day back to 1997. As a result, the version of Kyle that is sent back in this film is actually the start of yet ANOTHER loop (more on this later), and the reason why he retained his memories despite the timeline changing was because he was already in a time displacement field when Skynet caught up to John and killed him in 2029. Time travel stories can be fun, but they can quickly get complex real fast once you have multiple versions of events in play. That goes double once you bring in alternate timelines and reboots (such as the TV series which is actually good, and then Woke Fate which takes a giant steaming shit on the series that was so massive that it actually made some fans look back at T3-T5 and realize they actually weren't THAT bad) With a series like this, it really does help to map out the multiple timelines. The general theory that I myself follow is this: Original Timeline: 198X: John Connor is born (Not as the son of Kyle/Sarah, and as Kyle is not the father, his actual DOB could be somewhat in flux depending on who the father was) 199X: John meets Kate (Speculation, but it plays into things) 2003: Kyle Reese is born (Exact DOB is never stated, but the important thing is Kyle wouldn't be old enough to know of a world without the war) July 24, 2004: Judgement Day, start of the war 2004-2029: The Dark Years John might not be a high ranking leader of the Resistance, but he winds up becoming perhaps the most important member as he's the one that leads the assault team that destroys Skynet 2029: Kyle and a T-800 are sent back to 1984 and start the first loop, after this the TIme Displacement Equipment (TDE) is destroyed First and foremost: when time travel comes into a plot, there MUST be an original and unaltered version of events. End of story. Exact dates and details are unknown on several things, but it's a fairly safe bet that Judgement Day was most likely in 2004. Now, why do I have Judgement Day as 2004? Simple: Cyberdyne didn't have the parts from the T-800 sent to 1984 as time travel hasn't come into play. As a result, Skynet's original origin would have likely been as seen in T3. As for John meeting Kate? Well, in some cases you really can't fight fate, and had John grown up in the same general area that his foster family in T2 lived in, it would have still been possible for him to meet her. As a result, it's entirely possible the version of John Connor from an original and unaltered timeline would have a connection to her father. In turn, this could be where some of his initial military training came into play as General Brewster is a high ranking member of the Resistance in some timelines. Anyway, events proceed, but this isn't what we see on screen in the first film. Instead, we get this: First Loop: May 13th, 1984: Kyle and the T-800 arrive in the past 198X: Events don't play out exactly as we see in T1 19XX: This version of Kyle wouldn't have his instant connection to Sarah and was merely a volunteer, so their relationship is likely more of a slow burn John is conceived as the son of Kyle and Sarah leading to a MAJOR timeline alteration It's possible this version of John has knowledge of the future direct from Kyle, but at some point Kyle dies trying to save Sarah and John as it is noted John's father died "before the war" July 24th, 2004: Judgement Day 2004-2029: Despite no connection to Brewster, John becomes a much more important member of the Resistance and eventually the leader due to his previous knowledge Skynet is still destroyed, Kyle and the T-800 are sent back to start the Second Loop, the TDE is destroyed. Unlike the original timeline, John and Sarah have advanced knowledge of Skynet. While this version of John likely never meets Kate and her father early on, he manages to pick up his training and skills from his father before he dies and is still guided by his mother in the early years of the war. However, knowledge comes at a price. With the advanced knowledge he now has, John KNOWS Kyle must be the one to go back as this has created what is known as a Grandfather Paradox. This leads to John becoming laser focused on Kyle as he MUST be the one to go back, and that leads to Kyle becoming focused on Sarah due to John's stories, the picture, the message he wants delivered, etc. Second Loop (T1): May 13th-14th, 1984: Kyle and the T-800 arrive (Events of T1) Rather than a slow burn, Kyle and Sarah's relationship moves at a fast pace Kyle dies in the Cyberdyne factory fighting the T-800 1984-1997: Cyberdyne recovers the T-800 parts and accelerates their AI research Sarah and John go off the grid August 29th, 1997: Judgement Day is now seven years earlier 1997-2029: The Dark Years 2029: John discovers a major deviation at the end of this loop as a T-1000 prototype has now been sent back in addition to the T-800 As in the previous loops, John sends Kyle back but with one new message "There is no fate but what we make for ourselves" John reprograms a T-800 and send it back to 1995 Keep in mind that in T1 we witness Kyle say that the TDE was destroyed the moment he went back. It's just him and the T-800 in 1984. Naturally, John would have knowledge that the TDE was used only once by Skynet and depending on how much info Sarah learned from Kyle before he died, he would know that Judgement Day should be in 2004 rather than 1997. At this point, John realizes that he's now locked into a different kind of war with Skynet. Each additional loop is now changing the timeline in unforeseen ways. Skynet is now part of a Grandfather Paradox of its own making as the destroyed parts from the T-800 have become involved with its own creation. Keep in mind this is an advanced AI that became self-aware. Upon reaching that point, it could have very well figured out that Cyberdyne managed to accelerate their progress from the destroyed T-800 if any of their project files which it would now have access to made mention of reverse engineering a microchip of unknown origin. At this point, John would believe his best chance to stop this for good is to try to get the timeline back on track, so his original message for Reese to give to his mother ("The future is not set") is now amended to be "The future is not set. There is no fate but what we make." Need evidence? Ok. In T1, we hear Kyle say the original version of the line which does NOT include the "No Fate" portion of it. However, in T2 we hear John mention the quote as having that as well. Something wound up changing on a loop to make John amend the quote, and the most likely thing would have the combination of Judgement Day happening earlier, and an additional Terminator (in this case the T-1000) getting sent back. Now, once we reach this point, it actually starts to become rather difficult to figure out how many loops are involved from one film to the next as things have devolved to a point where John and Skynet are becoming reactionary to one another. John thwarts Skynet and then Skynet comes up with a new contingency plan. Eventually, you're going to wind up with timeline loops that might actually omit some films, or potentially even be timelines that are strongly similar to other timelines. Hell, the war on many loops is supposed to end in 2029, yet during the T3 loop we see that John is still fighting in 2032, and it even becomes a major plot point that he DIES before the war is over. At that point, one would ASSUME that T4 directly follows T3 as we see Kate and hear John mention that the timeline has now drastically changed from what his knowledge was intended to prepare him for, but somehow Skynet is aware of Kyle Reese and is now actively seeking to terminate him as there is no TDE equipment yet in 2018. No loops prior to T4 indicate that Skynet even knows who Kyle Reese is, otherwise they'd likely refocus their efforts towards trying to kill him before he goes back in time as the main contingency behind eliminating John.
(CONTINUED) I actually had to break this into two parts. Apparently, UA-cam has a character limit on replies, but I'll be damned if I know what it is as it wouldn't tell me 😆 Anyway..... With all of that said, I think one can clearly argue for four distinct loops following the original timeline before things really start to get out of control: Original Timeline First Loop (Offscreen) Second Loop (T1, JD is now 1997) Third Loop (T1/T2, JD back to 2004, war still ongoing in 2032, John dies in 2032) Fourth Loop (makes no changes to T1/T2, leads to T3, John now back on the radar, war once again ends in 2029) After that? Who the hell knows how many times John/Skynet have done things. All we really need to know is that we eventually somehow get a loop that likely leads to T1-T4 happening in some manner, John first meeting Kyle in 2018 when Kyle is a main target, and the war ending in 2029. After more time travel shenanigans, we somehow get a loop that results in a T-1000 attempting to kill Sarah as a child, and knowing that Kyle is a major secondary target. I think at this point, Skynet may have finally realized killing John was a pointless exercise, especially as John/Skynet notes within T5's 2017 that they've all come from altered timelines and that John/Skynet killing them there wouldn't have a negative effect on John. I honestly think that's the key reason why Skynet shifted from trying to kill the Connors/Reese and instead opted to infect John with nanotech in T5. It's also the key reason why I think this film is actually the perfect ending point if you ignore loose plot threads that were intended for the sequels that never got made: Yes, John dies in this one, but the reality is that he was already dead from the moment Skynet caught up to him while John was sending Kyle back to 1984. It's a sad moment for sure, but we finally wind up with a timeline where both Sarah and Kyle are alive (despite not being from their original timelines), Judgement Day has not happened, and a Model 101 Terminator (originally a T-800, but upgraded with new abilities by the end) has managed to survive to the end of the film.
This one is ignores Terminator 3 and Salvation because Studios saw the reaction to them and wanted to completely reboot it. They kept the date from the original Terminator of Judgement Day 1997. This and Dark Fate has a lot in common
The character progression of the psychologist is my favorite part of this movie. Each movie he slowly progresses from disbelief to fully believing in timetravel etc.
Pretty good? Parts, sure. As a whole? Pfft! Seriously, up until Matt Smithnet attacks John, the future sequence is one of my favorites. The T-1000, Pops vs og Terminator, recreating moments from the first movie, Pops in general. That’s about it. Oh my god JK Simmons is in this! I keep forgetting that! This and the Robocop remake not being good enough for me to remember who was in them.
Honestly, I really liked Matt Smith as Skynet and I feel like were were robbed of an *amazing* villain. Just take a look at his performance as the evil Doctor in Nightmare in Silver and tell me that wouldn't have made for a legitimately *scary* incarnation of Skynet.
This was fun, and the positive things are the return of Arnold, watched in 3d at the cinema and the beautiful Emilia Clarke being part of the terminator franchise. And Stella, as you say: nostalgia about a movie you watched 3 week ago, for me was nostalgia for a movie i watched 3 decades ago. So the first 30 minutes are pure gold.
What about this story line, John Conner is sending Reese through the time gate. Reese is killed during the process, the black guy @ 6:26 goes instead and John Conner is now portrayed by Dwayne Johnson The Rock.
The phenomena is that people experience the same film, book or music differently according to their own perceptive and emotive experience, consequently the sequels to a popular media often split opinion and those that dislike the sequels , tend to shout it from the rooftops.... Often their opinion only speaks for a vocal minority and should be treated with caution
Considering the movie bombed I think you can safely say it wasn't a minority here. And please understand I kinda liked the movie. The plot had potential however the script needed a ton of work and the casting of Kyle and John was god awful. But just cause you like something doesn't mean people who don't are in the minority.
Terminator is a franchise of reboots, even The Sarah Conor Chronicles was a reboot that did away with T3, the good thing about it was it built upon the first two movies and continued that story.
this story begins in the future when kyle was sent back to save sarah in the first terminator, but the timelines get messed up because timetravel is crazy. so he ends up in a timeline that never happened. so this movie is still following the story but it is a branch off the main story to explore the unexpected difficulties of time travel and changing fate.
This is more or less an alternate timeline. The bombs dropping on 97 is right in this because this is the timeline of the first kyle. So the call that goes back in this one is the same one that goes back in the original movie but this timeline is changed because rather than sending a Terminator to Sarah when she's older like the original movie they sent one to the past when she was a kid and of course one was sent to protect her So it move the whole present day timeline back because of Genesys. The new Terminator that it turned John had changed the timeline and tried to correct things sooner. So that's why everything is happening sooner than it normally would have because they tried to start skynet off stronger more or less. It is kind of confusing but pretty much it's an alternate timeline from the first four movies so you can technically say it's reboot. Then of course, and I hate to say this, dark fate is its own dumpster fire They pretty much made that movie because they wanted to make the main hero a woman. Which is literally the only reason it was made but it was nice to see Sarah Connor again no matter what and she's still a badass in that movie so I'll let it slide. But dark fate is its own timeline because more or less what they do in it makes it impossible to have anything to do with the other movies
This was supposed to be the first movie of a new trilogy based off of this timeline, but due to the bad feedback and not the best at the box office got totally shelved. Then they decided to make Dark Fate which is in Jame's Cameron's "opinion" the third movie of Terminator ignoring T3 Rise of the Machines, Salvation and Genisys. Essentially there's different timelines with this franchise. Original is T1, T2, T3 Rise of the Machines and Salvation. Second timeline Genisys(planned for 2 more movies but that idea got scrapped) Third timeline T1, T2 and Dark Fate. There was also the TV series Terminator:The Sarah Connor Chronicles but that was confirmed to be not canon at all to the movies and just it's own timeline all together. Now I heard since Dark Fate did even worse than this movie did, that Cameron is planning a whole full reboot. He said he wants to focus more on the machines, Skynet's perspective so we'll see what happens. You know Arnold will have at least a cameo or something I'm sure.
There was a pretty interesting comic about the future war and a group of moon colonists who came back down after judgement day with their own friendly cyborg. Also another one where the terminators surgically inserted future weapons inside a big dude to use him as time travel luggage. Pretty brutally efficient given the "organic material" rules.
The scene where Skynet sent the two terminators via time (1984 and 1995) before sending Kyle and John's protector were suppose to be in T2 before opening credit, but got scrapped.
I am really glad you are watching all of the movies in this series. If for nothing else just the fun and action. And I really think if you give the Alien series a chance you will like them too.
17:15 That gun Kyle Reese uses is either the M16A2 or M16A4 assault rifle. It has under-barrel attachment which is the M203 Grenade Launcher. It can be loaded up with different shells such as Smoke, High Explosives, etc. Yes, there are many guns that have that even guns that look the same are different variants. 17:55 The other gun is a Heavy Sniper Rifle. Is also known as an Anti Material Rifle. That sniper rifle is called “Barrett 50 cal.”. That sniper rifle is very heavy to carry & it packs a huge punch. 50 cal is a big armor piercing bullet that’s made to takeout light armored vehicles. I heard stories of US snipers, human heads blow up like watermelon. Another said, he used explosive round shells instead of the regular 50 bullet on an enemy & went to look over to confirm the kill. All but his torso was gone & it was visceral. Yeah, that’s how powerful that sniper rifle is. It does penetrate bulletproof vehicles including an attack helicopter/gunship except heavy armor like military tanks. Any kind of material except the tanks will be pierced through. Imagine using a car or truck to escape, that sniper rifle can destroy them with a well placed shot such as the engine & it takes only 1 shot.
You were not paying attention. Week spot at the back of their necks were the T-600 ("the 600 series had rubber skin, we spotted them easy" - Kyle Reese). Arnold's model 101 is a series 800 or 850 (T3) model.
Skynet launched its attack too soon. 1997 was not a good time for computer processor development to be used as a starting point. If it had waited until market forces prevailed, 2001 would have been more opportune.
Depending on your understanding of time travel and because of the different directors the Terminator franchise is 1-4 different timelines. T1and2 (and if you want T3) (i feel like nobody ever remembers they left Uncle Bob’s arm in a big ass gear), are a closed loop timeline but with Dark Fate that’s meant to be the original timeline trilogy because it’s by James Cameron. There’s a few breakdowns online to understand the timelines.
The first four films are in the same timeline and the "Sarah Connor Chronicles" TV series which ran for 2 seasons before an abrupt cancellation on Fox and the last two films, a lot of the Novels, Games and Comics are in separate timelines picking up from the second film. Then, there are other timelines like the video game "Terminator: The Redemption" where the T-850 from the third film was reprogrammed by Kate Connor before he killed John.
the gun dont shoot "special" bullets, it's just an attachment to the gun, called an underbarrel grenade launcher, and has been used in USA since 1969...
My head cannon about the terminator franchise is that every time travel event has altered the future slightly, we have this loop caused by time travel and no idea how many iterations of the war have happened each ending with them sending agents back through time and creating a different future war
A lot of people don't get that when dealing with time travel, what happened in the past doesn't really matter. The whole point of the Terminator is to change the past. Sarah is trying to change the future, which has already happened. In Dark Fate, they say it doesn't respect T2, but again, the Terminator's job was to CHANGE the past.
When they say it doesnt respect terminator 2 they arent meaning it in the sense it doesnt make logical sense, they mean it is shitting on the most beloved terminator film out there and undoes it. Yes they can do that but it still rubs the fanbase up the wrong way because everyone loves that film lol
@@charg1nmalaz0r51 It didn't shit on T2 any more than T3 did. . John was saved in T2. They tried to kill him later in T3, They tried to also kill him later in Dark Fate. They tried to kill him later in Salvation. There is literally no difference.
If Arnold wasn't CGI in this, then this is proof he isn't a normal human. He looks AMAZING, and even more so considering his age. You can't deny his work ethic to get into that kind of shape.
As Arnie once said "judgement day is inevitable". And that brings in the paradox. There's always going to be a war and machines, ALWAYS. Which means changing the past makes no difference but also it changes everything. Everytime things change a whole new time line is written, which means there's infinite timelines/multiverses. And then you have to wonder do all those multiverses have the same rule as ours, that "judgement day is inevitable" 🤔 this stuff makes your head hurt, but they are so much fun. There was a short lived tv series about Sarah and a teenage John. Again it appeared to be a totally different Terminator universe. It showed a future where some of the machines wanted peace, and where fighting other machines. Unfortunately the infamous writers strike took this show, but it had an interesting story. There was a scene with a submarine collecting a package from an underground base the that blew my mind.
Yes, as usual, Kyle Reese does go to the year 1984 just like in the 1st movie. But a ton of things have changed, or should I say RESET. MOST DEFINITELY, I agree with Stella on this one!!!!
Hot takes on this movie in 3...2...1...
Uh oh

T2 supreme
T3 fun

The story in the Terminator movies is told in different timelines:
A) T1, T2, T3, Salvation
B) Genisys
C) T1, T2, Dark Fate
this is the comment they were asking for up front.
@@CaptainAmercia So basically Skynet didn't understand time travel and gained nothing from making new time lines, except create those in which they 'won'.
you should add the Sarah Conor Chronicles, because it's the best sequel to Terminator 2, yet very underrated.

The Genisys timeline is alot easier to understand once you see it written out.
Awesome! Thanks
What about Dark Fate timeline? 🤔
They were planning on making this a "Part 1 of 3" and answering all the loose story threads by the end of it.. Which COULD have retroactively made this one really good by the end of it, but we'll never know because of how poorly this one was received.
Every movie after 2 was supposed to start a trilogy lol and they could never get it right.
@Knight-Bishop no the writers suck and the directors were more interested in action set pieces than connecting the characters to the audience
That is actually cannon as far as I know. It's a skynet from an alternate timeline that turns John bad
Logically, growth and productivity means developing technologically , so any timeline leads eventually to AI , or a version of Skynet
I guess they’re going to watch them all. I’m here for it.
And I'd be there for the TV series

Part of the negative reception could be because the marketing released a trailer that flat out showed the spoiler that John Conner was turned into a Terminator, which completely killed the novelty of the movie.
yup they did the same thing for Salvation. dumb dumb marketing decisions.
Certain people at Hollywood seem to believe spoilerous trailers attract people...
No idea why, but I ain't watching basically any trailer anymore since 2019
That and the fact that the movie was completely shite
I must have forgotten that, or assumed it was a shapeshifter imitating John, because it surprised me when I first saw it.
I'm really glad you have the courage to go through the whole franchise. Most other reactors don't.
Fun fact:
This movie is the ONLY ONE in the franchise where Arnold's T-800 gets to live at the end.
And, personally, I choose to believe that the franchise ended with him becoming an almost grandfather-esque figure to John and that everyone gets to live happily ever after.
Way to spoil the next movie, please edit your comment.
Same in the videogame Terminator 3: The Redemption because John tooks his CPU after defeating the T-X and install him on a mech as his new body
Due to this movie bombing at the BO they never continued with the story, so it's unresolved.
The next movie, Dark Fate, ignores every movie from 2 onwards and acts as a 3rd movie.
I like how good are these takes on every movie y'all have reacted to. Unbiased and insightful takes even the community took years to agree on.
In other words. Beating a dead horse into a puddle of bloody hair.
@@jmag579 yea it’s a confusing mess, but it wasn’t the timeline changes that I disliked about the movie it was how they changed John Conner.
Alan Taylor did not have a good time making this movie, as Clarke in an interview that "he was being mistreated by the producers, telling him that he didn't know how to make an action scene work, or how to help the stunt team pull off n impossible stunt,or how he didn't bother to read the script, letting the actors do what they want." Clarke was a happy that the sequel was cancelled, as she didn't want to star in a franchise that treats its directors poorly.
i dont think Alan Taylor was treated all that well for Marvel's Thor the Dark World
They cast (casted isn't a word by the way people...cast is already a verb), her eyebrows, the rest was accessory.

While loading the mags before hand would have been time saving, loaded mags should be rotated out at around the six month mark so as to not damage the spring. Of course, knowing when you might NEED the ammo is very handy. Like if you could predict the future or something. . .
Dont be confused
After T2, every movie is in different timeline, even Dark Fate is alternate timeline
That's my favorite kind of weapon. M4-M16 of some kind with the M203 grenade launcher attachment. Glad someone pointed it out.
@@KingsNerdCave never had the chance to handle the M4 but I got well acquainted with the M16-A2 back in the Marines. It's a very nice weapon, low recoil, good accuracy, and fairly reliable (though not as reliable as an AK-47)

And the new John just doesn't feel like a fighter. He feels like the "nice guy" friend girls have. I just can't picture him standing toe to toe with a biker much less a T-800. 1:10 they should’ve left the movie running for a hour like this!
The expansion of the ALIEN universe in those two is quite interesting and worth watching, because it answers some questions from ALIEN 1, although they also raise others.
i don't, they are bad.....the Wile E. Coyote run still makes me laugh
They should also watch the preditor series. and Alien vs Prediator which is a fun movie.
I appreciate you're reactions to this series. There's not enough of them on UA-cam
Funny that Lena Headey who's also in the cast of GOT was Sarah Connor in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles tv show.
"One of the cardinal sins of creating sequels is you can't make the previous movies not matter anymore." Ha ha wait until you watch Dark Fate.
Lol I love that these two don't know what a grenade launcher is. They're thinking that gun that's causing stuff to explode in the beginning is some future weapon but in reality it's a weapon that's been around since 69😂.
Not even new for the 80s. It doesn't seem like you'd want to use it that close though?
I believe these are all different timelines because of the timetravelling. It's like multiple branches with different outcomes.
The fact that this version of Kyle Reese killed T-800 quickly than the original Kyle is surprising 💀
Edit: Well... tecnically he supposed to be the same Kyle as the original... so that's what happen when a timeline change.
@@jessemoore7081 I agree T3 closed the loop leave the future war to the audience's imagination.
- Terminator
- Terminator 2
- Terminator: Dark Fate. These are all direction sequels of each other as it currently stands.
- Terminator 3 ( set within it's own timeline )
- Terminator: Salvation ( soft reboot can be seen as a sequel to T3 )
- Terminator: Genisys ( hard reboot, completely set within it's own timeline )
Different events change every time someone comes through time so the future is always changing
You could explain it by the fact that this is not a rifle you just find very easily and in this movie Sarah and Arnold were a bit more prepared compared to the characters in the other movies so the presence of that gun in this movie kind of make sense... sort of.
Not to mention they could have been using special amo like depleted uranium. As you mentioned they had been preparing for a decade.
@@markcarpenter6020 Never heard of DU rounds for .50 BMG, especially not in the 80s.

Lol
Helicopters can fly like that, it just takes an incredibly skilled/talented pilot on the stick and collective.
There was not a freeway where Sarah and Kyle arrived, it was built during the thirty-year interregnum.
The girls deserve better
"Time travel is confusing!" that kinda sums it up! 😂
No it's not.
Sure thats one theory. Depends on what type of theory of fictional time travel you are talking about.
Kyle Reece here is kinda like Zack Snyder's Batman where he's getting visions of a timeline hes involved in because of a nexus
Might make for a great television series...😊
most excellent comment
That goes double once you bring in alternate timelines and reboots (such as the TV series which is actually good, and then Woke Fate which takes a giant steaming shit on the series that was so massive that it actually made some fans look back at T3-T5 and realize they actually weren't THAT bad)
With a series like this, it really does help to map out the multiple timelines. The general theory that I myself follow is this:
Original Timeline:
198X: John Connor is born (Not as the son of Kyle/Sarah, and as Kyle is not the father, his actual DOB could be somewhat in flux depending on who the father was)
199X: John meets Kate (Speculation, but it plays into things)
2003: Kyle Reese is born (Exact DOB is never stated, but the important thing is Kyle wouldn't be old enough to know of a world without the war)
July 24, 2004: Judgement Day, start of the war
2004-2029: The Dark Years
John might not be a high ranking leader of the Resistance, but he winds up becoming perhaps the most important member as he's the one that leads the assault team that destroys Skynet
2029: Kyle and a T-800 are sent back to 1984 and start the first loop, after this the TIme Displacement Equipment (TDE) is destroyed
First and foremost: when time travel comes into a plot, there MUST be an original and unaltered version of events.
Instead, we get this:
First Loop:
May 13th, 1984: Kyle and the T-800 arrive in the past
198X: Events don't play out exactly as we see in T1
19XX: This version of Kyle wouldn't have his instant connection to Sarah and was merely a volunteer, so their relationship is likely more of a slow burn
John is conceived as the son of Kyle and Sarah leading to a MAJOR timeline alteration
It's possible this version of John has knowledge of the future direct from Kyle, but at some point Kyle dies trying to save Sarah and John as it is noted John's father died "before the war"
July 24th, 2004: Judgement Day
2004-2029: Despite no connection to Brewster, John becomes a much more important member of the Resistance and eventually the leader due to his previous knowledge
Skynet is still destroyed, Kyle and the T-800 are sent back to start the Second Loop, the TDE is destroyed.
Second Loop (T1):
May 13th-14th, 1984: Kyle and the T-800 arrive (Events of T1)
Rather than a slow burn, Kyle and Sarah's relationship moves at a fast pace
Kyle dies in the Cyberdyne factory fighting the T-800
1984-1997: Cyberdyne recovers the T-800 parts and accelerates their AI research
Sarah and John go off the grid
August 29th, 1997: Judgement Day is now seven years earlier
1997-2029: The Dark Years
2029: John discovers a major deviation at the end of this loop as a T-1000 prototype has now been sent back in addition to the T-800
As in the previous loops, John sends Kyle back but with one new message "There is no fate but what we make for ourselves"
John reprograms a T-800 and send it back to 1995
Keep in mind that in T1 we witness Kyle say that the TDE was destroyed the moment he went back. There is no fate but what we make."
Need evidence?
(CONTINUED)
I actually had to break this into two parts. Apparently, UA-cam has a character limit on replies, but I'll be damned if I know what it is as it wouldn't tell me 😆
Anyway.....
With all of that said, I think one can clearly argue for four distinct loops following the original timeline before things really start to get out of control:
Original Timeline
First Loop (Offscreen)
Second Loop (T1, JD is now 1997)
Third Loop (T1/T2, JD back to 2004, war still ongoing in 2032, John dies in 2032)
Fourth Loop (makes no changes to T1/T2, leads to T3, John now back on the radar, war once again ends in 2029)
After that?
It's also the key reason why I think this film is actually the perfect ending point if you ignore loose plot threads that were intended for the sequels that never got made:
Yes, John dies in this one, but the reality is that he was already dead from the moment Skynet caught up to him while John was sending Kyle back to 1984.
This is the correct answer.
Answer is, it is reboot, also next movie is reboot of reboot and older movies, it is complicated...
The character progression of the psychologist is my favorite part of this movie. Each movie he slowly progresses from disbelief to fully believing in timetravel etc.
Idc what anyone says, i love this movie so much and i have probably watched it about 20 times
OMG They should do Robocop
@@Giant-Jonny the original, yes!
If they’re confused now, wait until they get to Dark Fate 🤣
This and Dark Fate both take place after T2: Judgement Day.
Exactly:
-Legion in place of Skynet
-REV series in place or Terminator units with “T-XXX- TXXXX units
- Female in place of male
We have just one remaining film from the franchise awaiting our reaction: "Terminator: Dark Fate" (2019).
Second timeline Genisys(planned for 2 more movies but that idea got scrapped)
Third timeline T1, T2 and Dark Fate.
They did a comic book mini-series, where Sarah had a daughter named Jane connor. The terminators and skynet was erased from history when she was born.
Can't wait for you both to watch Arnold in True Lies
I am really glad you are watching all of the movies in this series. If for nothing else just the fun and action. And I really think if you give the Alien series a chance you will like them too.
I'm looking foward to see their reaction to next terminator movie!
They will feel VERY confused.
It's a good thing that Skynet never made a Terminator as proficient as the old T-800.
Maybe we should all go back to using old technology smh
Skynet launched its attack too soon. 1997 was not a good time for computer processor development to be used as a starting point. If it had waited until market forces prevailed, 2001 would have been more opportune.
You guys would definitly love the the Terminator show!
Remember these movies a all in different timelines.
There a Lot of Fun nods towards the past terminator movies That make me able to enjoy this movie
8:56 did you say "scusi" in Italian? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 no way I liked it a lot. As an Italian as I am. much appreciated.
the gun dont shoot "special" bullets, it's just an attachment to the gun, called an underbarrel grenade launcher, and has been used in USA since 1969...
I love the concept of this movie
My head cannon about the terminator franchise is that every time travel event has altered the future slightly, we have this loop caused by time travel and no idea how many iterations of the war have happened each ending with them sending agents back through time and creating a different future war
You should have watched The Sarah Connor Chronicles. It picks up after T2 and extends that timeline in another direction.
Awesome reaction to another Terminator movie.
Dark fate does respect T2 I don't like the movie but the story makes a lot of sense.
When they say it doesnt respect terminator 2 they arent meaning it in the sense it doesnt make logical sense, they mean it is shitting on the most beloved terminator film out there and undoes it. Yes they can do that but it still rubs the fanbase up the wrong way because everyone loves that film lol
@@charg1nmalaz0r51 it doesn't shit on T2 though and not everyone loves T2 I find it massively overrated.
@@charg1nmalaz0r51 It didn't shit on T2 any more than T3 did. . John was saved in T2. They tried to kill him later in T3, They tried to also kill him later in Dark Fate. They tried to kill him later in Salvation. There is literally no difference.
@@calisthenicsmachine9725 I almost didn't see Genisys and Dark Fate because of all the hate. I had fun with Genisys and LOVED Dark Fate.
If Arnold wasn't CGI in this, then this is proof he isn't a normal human. He looks AMAZING, and even more so considering his age. You can't deny his work ethic to get into that kind of shape.
17:15 it’s a M203A1 grenade launcher attached to Colt Car-15. They were used during Vietnam War and still using it in military today.
Genisys' big mistake came in the preview. It revealed John as a Terminator then, instead of letting audiences be surprised.
I actually really like this one, more than Salvation.
I would strongly recommend to watch at least Season 1 of The Sarah Connor Chronicles. 😊
Yes, as usual, Kyle Reese does go to the year 1984 just like in the 1st movie. But a ton of things have changed, or should I say RESET. MOST DEFINITELY, I agree with Stella on this one!!!!
We need part 6
