its crazy these days the amount of parts u have to move just to get to the part u are after something simple like a thermostat housing . Good job Gerard
Good video, It will help me out a lot, One question that I dont see anywhere is how tight do I put the bolts back into the housing, I see its plastic and dont want to break it, do I need a torque wrench?
Hi, what rough time in hours is the job thanks, thinking under 2 hours? Hose clamp pliers required? I've a snap on tool box just not handy. Never done an Alternator removal, have a Thermo. I need change my thermo
Theres a coolant bleeder valve on the radiator. Tiny little cap like a tire valve, on the inside top of the radiator.....figured aome people might like to know 😅
Hi Gerard, Very helpful video. 2 questions. 1st Question, do you know any way of removing the serpentine belt without cutting it? most videos i noticed cut the belt and use a tool to fit the new one. 2nd Question, when you fitted the new thermostat and housing, you hand tightened the nuts and then fitted the hoses and alternator. Did you not tighten or torque those bolts further?
Hi Gerard,, May i asking some high temperature for the engine FF AT2012, how temp? My FF if high RPM (uphill road) 113 celcius, its normal or not.. awaited your information
Thank you from South Africa - Im busy getting my radiator fixed as I type and I am about to do the theromstat. Do you need sealer when fitting it back as I am going to use the same old housing and just change the thermostat. Last question if you have time. Do you think my car overheated due to a bad thermo? Overheating burst the radiator yesterday and last month the head gasket. The fan never kick in at 107degrees C which is another issue but the fan works becuase with the ac on the fan kicks in. Due to spending 1/5 of the value of the car this year alone on heating issues I am tackling it myself this though relying on videos like yours so thank you as I am by no means a mechanic. I am thinking change thermostat, fix radiator, fix another water leak near under coil pack, check the fan relay or else know what maybe even the reservoir cap - the problems just dnt end !
@@mickydee84 guess why the car overheated. It was not the thermostat etc. It was a thermo switch that controls the radiator fan. I just bypassed it with a small wire. Note the radiator fan has 2 speeds so make sure both work. Should kick in at 105 Celsius
Great video, thank you! My dad has this car and is suffering from low mpg and temperature gauge is only getting up to about a third of the gauge instead of sitting at 12 o clock. I'm thinking maybe the thermostat is the issue here?
Instead, there is a way to check the water temperature. Just search on UA-cam: "How to see the water temperature Ford Fiesta." You'll be able to see it, and although it may be boring, it will help you understand if you have issues with high temperatures.
HI Gerard, Thank you for this video. My fiesta doesn't seem to give up much heat as it is supposed to. I've tried burping the cooling system and also flushing out the heater core but still no heat. Do you think my thermostat is about to go?
Take my advice with a grain of salt because i’m not a mechanic. But i heard that when your car isn’t giving off enough heat, your thermostat is stuck open. I myself seem to be having the opposite issue. My coolant was boiling the other night. So my thermostat might be stuck closed.
im at 100k miles my ford fiesta is a 2018 and the heater still works good and im not overheating or anything do i still need to replace the thermostat or should I still do it now or can I hold it off a bit longer? I read it says 100k miles or every 10 years to replace it.
Hi There could you come to Malaysia and check my car please, I send my car to FORD SC 2days ago but they said still waiting for the diagnostic team result. Got leaking issue and they said got permanent blockage at the coolant flow.
You need the mk version in the fiesta, people cannot use this video effectively because different fiestas have different engines. The video is good, but no one can find it without the engine type and version.
ford design has always way more complicated. i have just to replaced the door latch of ford fiesta, and its a real pain. took 1.5 hour to figure out whereas my japanese car can be done in 20 mins.

They don't make them with a whole lot of space nowadays 😩
Overall not a bad job though, fairly straight forward. Thanks for the comment Ian 👍👍
My next Job, I’m already feeling anxious looking at the stuff you have to get out of the way just to get to the thermostat. It’s ridiculous!
Brooo frrr
If you remove the passenger head light, it makes the process 100% easier, especially dealing with the alternator removal and reinstallation.
Thank you for the video very helpful saves a lot of time and also points out another many reasons why Ford makes nothing but junk
I have been in the motor trade for over forty years and couldn't have explained it any better myself.
Fascinating, thanks. I never begrudge paying my garage for jobs, when you see how complicated they can be!
Thanks John 🙌🙌
Great demonstration and very detailed.
Thank you 🙏🙏👌

Hello, according to the manual it's 9Nm
You just took all the guesswork out. Thanks man.
Glad to help! S V
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage Which torque do you use?

do you just top off the reservoir in a fiesta or do you need to bleed the air out of the system as well?
Great video, well done Gerard
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words
Lifesaver dude. Thanks
Perfect! Thank you so much! Erin go bragh!
Awesome video, shows everything perfectly
🙏
Thanks for great exploration
No tensioner ? My belt seems rock solid after doing this. I had to pry the alternator up to tighten the two top bolts
Thanks, how would i know if it was the thermostic housing or the water pump was leaking coolant?
The stretchy belts can be a bit of a pain , good stuff Gerard:):)
They can Pat, Ford Focus especially can be a pain :)
Thanks for the kind words ;)

Thanks. Could you clarify which way round the the thermostat goes in?

What s the good température on the 1.6L duratec engine ?

he dont show how he put on the sealer on this job
@@cheslynfortuin
The Housing comes with rubber seals already installed within the Housing.
When replacing the thermostat plastic housing how many nm do you torque it up too ?
Thanks very much 🙏🇿🇦
Hi Ger is this the same thermostat housing that the mk7 1.4 Diesel has?
Can you eliminate the thermostat on a2012 ford fiesta
Can you show how to remove the thermostate housing on a 3 cylinder 1.0 liter ecoboost???

hey dude my ford fiesta 1.4L coolant temperature is very high up to 99°c how do i fix that so it's not too high??
is it OK to totally remove it in the tropical environment?

what a joke of a design,,,,,i have done many thermastats and there always on top of the block...it's like a 15 minute job......wow

Thanks for skipping the fan belt removal any nut with a brain can remove a thermostat housing but not a belt that doesn’t have a tensioner
Thanks
