wow!! Magnificent. These giants are gone today (Though Domingo still with us as a baritone) but we have the memories. Domingo was always a great tenor. Milnes a superb baritone
Boy, that was incredible. I’m just imagining now what Caruso and Ruffo would have sounded like in the flesh singing this. Their recording just gives us a hint.
Maestro Milnes went and doubled that final tenor note... ...so please understand that, if in attendance, after these titans got through (and I am referring to everybody on that stage, because that orchestra is just beyond superlatives...), the paramedics would have had to carry me out strapped to a stretcher, weeping uncontrollably in a state of unhinged ecstatic bliss. Thank you, Giuseppe Verdi, for the historic gemstone of a opera that is OTELLO. I need to lie down.
What we call in these parts, an Embarrassment of Riches. I hope those who attended remember that evening for the spectacularly rare gem that it was. We'll never have so brilliant a pairing again. Mil gracias.
This is a fine version of this famous duet. However, I'm drawn to the version of Bjorling and Merrill which , in my opinion, is more electrifying and dynamic. Bjorling admitted in the mid-1950's that he wasn't ready for the the role of Otello but the pair decided to give this duet a try. The result is wonderful and gives an insight into what a fine Otello Bjorling would have made. Merrill has more voice quality than Milnes who I saw in London in the title role of Rigoletto. Still, it's all about opinions.
This is a live concert recording which cannot compare to the recorded version you speak of. Merrill did have a fuller voice, but Milnes magnetism cannot be denied. Check out the live recording with Milnes and Giuseppe Giacomini . Then get back to me about Domingo or even Bjoerling as Otello. GG cannot be compared to either in this role.
Great music. Milnes a "liitle flat" big voice... Domingo supports from "the back" great metal power... I am working on this and I get more power and ping... I would love to study with Dom. Not Milnes... I am karifrid on youtube, and I sing a lot of HIGH C ARIAS, plus Be my love... Also Wagner arias and song made by me... Domingo is one of my 5 fav. tenors.....Fine conductor also... ( Hamraborgin, and Skólakór Varmárskóla are good, also "Let´s kill Putin with our mind". My song..)
Because he could. Domingo actually said having Milnes sing it with him offered a sense of support. I prefer hearing the harmonic, myself. Gives Iago more characterful dimension.
Levine was the Met's darling pedophile for decades. They knew. I heard about his very nasty habits with VERY young boys in the 1980s from MET opera singers. Management always knew. Thank God they valued his artistry right?

I've been lucky enough to hear them sing these roles both together and with others. Truly great singing.
Milnes is the best baritone I ever heard in my 75 years.
yes but do you know Ettore Bastianini ?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!
He IS flat some times...

Gran dueto. Grandísimo Domingo.
Un barítono y un tenor que emocionan !!! Excelentes voces y excelente lo que trasmiten y hacen sentirme impactado.y emocionado.!!! GRACIAS!!!😂
Espectacular los dos!!!!!
A pure delight! Thank you so much!
Milnes would’ve made a great Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. His range is incredible
I remember listening to this live in 1983, having no idea how monumental a concert it was.
How could that have been 40 years ago?
Old but gold.
Omg Placido at his Best !!!
Bravo Domingo bravo visi trys!😍

Milnes è un grande Jago

Schön!
I would’ve loved to hear Sherill attempt Nessun Dorma. He could definitely hit that B4. His A4 was so much stronger than Domingo
Rather not hear that. The only people I want to hear sing ND is Corelli and Pavarotti. Milnes was not a tenor, despite extraordinary high notes.

Why did not baritone sing last note as in partuture
Because he could. Domingo actually said having Milnes sing it with him offered a sense of support. I prefer hearing the harmonic, myself. Gives Iago more characterful dimension.
I know he’s probably a pedophile and such, but Levine is amazing. Knows every word by heart.

Grande milnes Domingo no
Milnes just mediocre and to low on many occasions!
Milnes era fantastico ma Domingo ... aveva una voce di Cassio, non di Otello.
Ahahahahahahahahah sangue sangue sangue!!!! Dalle orecchie però ahahahah
