I've been watching every podcast with Melissa I can find...I've wondered for so many years now why this isn't all we're talking about. Well, if I'm being intellectually honest, I don't wonder why, I just lament the why, as it just couldn't be any more guided by the thought processes of children. Love your work...it's OK to say that American families matter.
Regarding resources that two parents may bring, money and time may be disjoint, but reduction in stress - very important for mental health of the children - is partly a combination of those first two. Knowing that when the boiler breaks that Mom has the ability ($$$$) to call a plumber and keep the house warm, knowing that when Dad comes home that he is the same "dad" that we know and are comforted by - not Mom's random sex partner de jour - eliminates sources of household stress.
Regarding the prioritization of children over marriage, at 1:09:00 the statement is made "the guys that they partner with are sucky". If the women as choosing "sucky" guys from a diverse pool, then they need to be making better choices. But, as I suspect, if it is the case that the limited pool of guys available to them are pretty much all "sucky", then the problem lies elsewhere. Which is it?
