  • Fact- the more fibre we consume, the healthier our microbiome will become.
First and foremost we need to be eating more fibre rich plant foods. At least 30 unique plant foods are recommended. It is the variety of plant foods that boosts diversity. I always try to add different veggies to my shop so that I don’t get stuck in a rut. I also try to see 30 plants as the minimum!
These foods all count towards your 30 plants:
    Vegetables
    Fruits
    Root vegetables
    Whole grains
    Nuts
Seeds ( chia and flaxseeds are excellent choices)
    Beans
    Lentils
    Peas
    Herbs
    Spices
So you can top up by adding chopped parsley and coriander to your food, using ginger, turmeric and garlic in your cooking and sprinkling chia seeds, walnuts or pistachios in your yogurt.
But if you still need to ‘up’ your fibre- here are some high fibre ‘extras’ you can add in to your diet. This can be helpful for some people who are on the go, away from their usual routine or who just feel they need a boost.
    My favourites are
    Psyllium husk powder
    Healthy Fibre PHGG @healthyorigins_usa
    @myotahealth Gut Booster
Banana flour - rich in resistant starch as well as protein.
As I often say, I am a nutritionist, but not your nutritionist so make sure fibre is right for you.

If you're in the US, try Lily's Chocolate! It has chicory root in it, which adds 10g per serving. Not sure where else Lily's may be available.
