Got mine about a year ago - it's now replaced my much loved G System as it sounds just as good IMHO but is a million times easier to use. I use the 4cm to split the board between effects before the pre-amp/ tone stack (compressor/overdrive/wah) and the (time based) effects before the power amp i.e. in the effects loop. It does a great job - highly recommended - just like your reviews!! 🙂
What makes the PLETHORA a necessity is EXPRESSION control of multiple units. This feature by itself transforms the sum of the activated pedals into an effect of its own. This is impossible almost to do today with 5 pedals and I don't know with how many parameters - because of the toneprint tech. THIS ALONE MAKES THIS PEDAL A NECESSITY. (Unless you can do that with the other multifx you mentioned in this video..CAN YOU? I don't know )....But I'm not sure they have realised this yet..... the demoers I've watched so far haven't atleast. SO I hope TC ELECTRONICS -if they haven't already - take it further and integrate this feature with the mash expression knob.
I like the Plethora, because of the versatility of sounds. I go with my guitar into the Plethora. The first effect is the compressor. After the compressor I go out into the Amp1 by Bluguitar, then back into the Plethora by 4 cable method for the other board effects I choose on several banks.. That ist another advantage of the Pleth. And you must know, that you need a 500 -600mV power plant !
Nice video! I subscribed. I have always played acoustic woodwinds and harmonicas. So I purchased a Plethora but needed a Voco Loco to plug in my condenser mic w/ phantom power. I don't know how to get the Plethora sounds to come through. I tried running the Plethora into the Voco Loco. Do I need to run the FX Loop at the end before the Voco Loco? Just totally new to me and lost.
Very nice walkthrough, subscribed! However, at 13:26 you don't actually engage the Vintage Echo and thus you are still hearing the Flashback delay. You can also see this in the display
Thanks for the review. I have the old TC Nova System, which has served me well but large and bulky for the new, smaller pedal board I am building. The Plethora X5 looks like the perfect replacement, with a few restrictions and lots of additions. The restrictions are less buttons and less on-board parameter adjustments. I see the phone app has more parameters to adjust, but it appears that the Plethora only allows access to only 3 via the 3 edit buttons. The Tone Print additions are welcomed, and I'm sure they sound better than my old Nova system. Q: Is it possible to assign a button to a tap tempo for an effect on a different button? For example, I frequently adjust tremolo and delay to match song tempo. The Nova system has a dedicated tempo button, but it seems that the Plethora requires a few steps to access tap tempo, which may be only available on the button assigned for the effect is is associated with. An external tap tempo footswitch would be an acceptable alternative, if it didn't occupy a lot of space on my pedal board. Your thoughts on this? Thanks again for your very detailed review.
Great video, pretty much made my mind up although one query. I can get a Px5 second hand for the same money as a new Px3 is the extra switches and the option of adding an expression pedal worth loosing the benefits from buying from a reputable retailer?
Can the hot knobs adjust more than three settings because some of the individual pedals have more than three adjustable knobs , also is the tap feature global to say all of the chosen pedals . Need a deeper dive into the alter ego .

In the manual I don't see any of this, and the Tc Electronic page has become impossible, it doesn't even allow you to register, before it wasn't like that, these people were very kind a few years ago, while now they seem affected by a hard conceit . Also (it seems to me that you have been asked about it before here) if it allows you to switch from mode A to B in the amplifier from the pedal. Thank you.
I've wanted to get this for a while but the big problem is the lack of drive pedals. Not asking for a bunch but even a tube screamer alone (until they make more) would make me buy it. One of the big selling points of a digital unit is all in one for me. if I still have to bring drive pedals with this it significantly lowers the value for me. Now if they are planning on coming out with drives I'd even pull the trigger then but can't until there is at least a plan for drives. That said really enjoy the demo and just hoping TC sees some of these requests. I really think this would cut into HX stomp sales for those of us that use these units to plug into tube amps.
Can this unit switch amp channels aby any means(quarter inch or midi) and for each individual effect that emulates the pedal.....is the quality the same or is it not as good because there's so many fx in the unit itself?

Hi about the 127 boards you can build? So if I build individual boards for individual songs can each board be pulled up via the keyboard sequencer & midi so my settings are sorted for each song?

I believe also this a very serious piece of gear :) I personally regret the parallel mode of the TC Nova system, that makes it possible to use it in a parallel FX loop, by feeding each effect with a dry signal, and getting back sum of all wet signals without Dry ! Why this huge regression ? Plethora works well in serial but when you want to keep your dry signal undigitalized, you are f***ed. Do you know (or anyone) if TC electronics has planned to setup a parallel mode ? Thanks

I'm in the same boat. I loved my G-System but it was too big for my needs. And yes, this is easier to fiddle with on the fly.
Same here, loved my g system but the plethora is just hands down smaller, lighter and so easy-to-use. Absolutely love it.

Does the compresor take up one of the 5 pedal slots of the Plethora or is it something you just turn on and still have your 5 effects?

The looper is one of the effects. It isn’t an amp channel switch.

It needs Overdrive/Distortion/Fuzz digital or not. It could be a stand alone unit. I like mine

That‘s the whole idea of this unit. All toneprint devices in one, but bring your own gain stages, because guitaristsare so picky about overdrives.
