Just purchased an X5. Was lost until I came across all your videos. Lifesaving ! Thank you for such detailed explanations of all the functions. Your presentation of this is amazing…..subscribed !!
Absolultely. Whilst the Plethora sounds great out of the box, and is pretty intuitive, I would not get anywhere near all you can get from it without these videos.
Thank you for this video, I received my x5 earlier this week, did the firmware install, and became lost and didn’t find answers in the quick start guide or a manual offered online, I found all the information I needed here and sincerely hope TC Electronics acknowledges how valuable this video is
The title is misleading, these are not really "tips and tricks", but valuable instructions on how stuff with this device works. Can't wait for mine to arrive.
I agree wholeheartedly, but most people won't be searching for "valuable instructions" - I wish they did, it would make for a much nicer title 😁 Hope you enjoy your Plethora, let us know how you get on with it 😉
Simple, clear and to the point ! AWESOME video. This pedal (to me) is one of the most innovative on the market. You just made its massive host of features a LOT more accessable to us. I THANK you for that.
After banging my head on the wall for 24 hours trying to edit the Plethora X5, I figured out NOT to use the software but just program straight into the board and I was on my way. I am using a POD Go for dirt, amp, IR and I put the X5 in the POD Go effects loop. The effects are A LOT better than POD Go. Tap tempo to control Delay , press and hold the Tap Tuner switch and there is a great tuner, effects level knobs assigned. Yeah this will work.
Yep - when I filmed this video, the triple tap was enabled by default and didn't have a user accessible option. I'll have to keep updating the video as new firmwares roll out :)
This is a very old video, back when there was no X3 and we were still on firmware 1.1. :D Either way, all tips except FX Loop and Exp Pedal, which the X3 doesn't have, still apply - but some have to be activated via menu options (Settings > Global > Product Settings > ...), because their defaults have changed due to the introduction of other options that would clash with the footswitch functions. I've also covered the X3 extensively here: ua-cam.com/video/bsVs0jp_V3c/v-deo.html, and the MIDI functionality here: ua-cam.com/video/NrsOYkBgfXg/v-deo.html, so those might be more interesting for new X3 owners. :)
Extremely helpful. It's great gear, but a bit of a beast to get it under control. Your videos are the best I've found by far. Thanks! I do have a question. Does the FX Loop of the Plethora have a AD/DA conversion, or is it a true analog loop? I'd prefer not to do any conversions before my preamps in using the four cable method.... Thanks!
I brought a use one one small problem when I press the pedal three times to change banks up or down it doesn't work same for the tuner got to do it manually.
Hi, great video, really useful! Thank you. When you explain Change boards without using the toggle switch, it is a method that live cannot be used because it takes too long to select the desired program. Is there another way within Plethora to do this or is a midi pedal board required? maybe is it possible from the exp output? Thank you!
Hi! great videos! I just updated my PlethoraX5 to 1.3.11 but the tripple tap tuner function is not working on button 5. Any clues why this might not be working? Thanks man!!
@@PedalPlatform I’m loving the Felix 2. I had the LR Baggs Venue DI for years but it became too noisy. Decide to upgrade. I’ll probably spent years trying to figure out all of its Capabilities. It sounds way better. I’ve been using it with the Plethora x5 and my stereo AC 90 Roland amp and I’m loving it. Very accurate representation of my acoustic instruments.

Great video! I just bought one! In Board 1 which is what I am using at the moment. Is the compressor in the loop or before with the 4 cable method? Is there a way to choose in setup? Thank you
I can confirm that an Ernie Ball low-impedance volume pedal (25k-Ohm) works just fine as an expression pedal for the X5. Single TS cable from the volume pedal output to the X5's expression input. Go through the calibration procedure on the X5.
Great Video! is it possible to change the presets directly from the Plethora without latency times for live use? Or do you necessarily have to have a midi pedal? Thank you!
Hi, did you already updated firmware to 1.3.11? When I did on my plethora x5, I suddenly lost all the shortcuts like board changes using toggle and tuner and all other stuff, can you help on how fix it? Thanks
Great video. I have an X5 arriving tomorrow. I’m using a UA LION and an FRFR power cab and pondering whether to put guitar throdrive, then LION then input of x5 with perhaps my El Capistan and Clouburst in insert or fx loop or guitar into X5 then all pedals in insert loop ( including LION) then straight out of X5 to Laney power cab. Welcome any thoughts and looking forward to experimenting! 🎉
Simple and informative, thank you I've just got mine and need this kinda help as there's no manual that talks through the vital manoeuvres - so a "just outta the box" tutorial would be great to get me going...please?
Glad you found it useful! What steps would you like to see covered in that type of tutorial? I'm working on another couple at the moment, so might be able to tweak to include some of those. 😄
Just got one and this is great Cheers ................. especially as they seem to have seen fit not to provide a proper manual in paper or for download !
For tuner mode on switch 5, its possible only if on switch 5 is assigned as one of the effects. If you have looper on switch 5 /last) tuner will not engage, it will only engange looper (record).
Hi... I can't activate the tuner mode.. Both pressing and holding the tone print and the triple tap of the foot switch 5.... Is there any problem if that is the case..?? I just got a new one this week.. 😢 ( think it's not working)
Hi, are you running firmware 1.1? (Check the version in Settings \ Global \ About \ Firmware). If you're still in 1.0.something, you need to update using the link on the right hand side in this page: www.tcelectronic.com/product.html?modelCode=P0D9M. If you're already running 1.1, check if you're in Play mode, as the tuner won't turn on in Edit mode. Also check that triple tap is activated in Settings \ Product Settings \ FSW Activate Tuner \ Triple Tap FSW 5. Hope this helps, let me know if it still isn't working after this!
Can the Plethora x3/x5 be configured like a loop switcher? Meaning: could I program a combination of effects to all come on when I hit footswitch #1, and then another combination of effects are assigned to footswitch #2 and so on?
very useful video ! I enjoyed with my Plethora, and much more now ! Very impatient to get the firmare update to have the Tuner and I guess couple others great new things ! Thank you for this video again !
Thank you! 🙏🏻 And I'd love to make an RC600 tutorial, but I've already maxxed out my gear expenses for this year 😬, so if Boss wants to lend me one... 😉
Can you do a full video with using other pedals in the effects loop with the effects loop of an amp. Demo it. I can't seem to get it to work right. Another question. If you can select the effects loop to between lets say 4 and 5. Why is there an option to insert an effects loop on a footswitch? I am so confused lol
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll see what I can do :) As for the option to insert the loop on a footswitch, it's designed in case you want to use the Plethora as a loop switcher, i.e. have a pedal / chain in the Plethora's loop, that you can tap on / off from the Plethora itself. You obviously give up an effects slot for that, but gain some flexibility should you need it.
@@PedalPlatform I got mine a couple of days ago, and I'm learning the functions. I tried the chromatic tuner this afternoon, and it works great for down tuning. Quick edit: Seeing D+ looking like C 1 + threw ne, in the first instance [I have impaired vision]. I thought of C 1 on the piano... Then realised it was D+ meaning D# (Eb). Otherwise, great. Thanks.
I still use and love my g system. There still no product on the market that solves the problems the g system solves in such an elegant way. I would definitely buy a revamped version with tone print software.
Will the pedal remember my delay time setting if I switch presets and then back? I'm hoping that fiddling with the knobs won't change it permanently just well performing
Firmware 1.1 now released: www.tcelectronic.com/Categories/Tcelectronic/Guitar/Effects-Processors/PLETHORA-X5/p/P0D9M/Downloads#googtrans(en|en) TUNER TRIPLE TAP - If your triple tap FSW5 isn't activating the Tuner, go to Edit > Settings > Global > Product Settings and check that FSW Activate Tuner option is active. This option only appeared after the firmware version I was using in the video. (Thanks Marcus for the pin tip!)
Great vid, clear and straight to the point. Very eager to find out the following: I'm building a pedalboard around a MKIV MIDI loop controller, and would be looking to replace several MIDI pedals by only one MIDI unit (modulations, reverb, delays) as I fear programming patches and multiple MIDI channels will be more than this dinosaur can handle, SO, my question is, if the Plethora is integrated on a pedalboard, can I switch boards via MIDI with no latency as if boards were patches on a multifx unit? Thanks in advance.
Hi Christian, you can indeed switch boards via MIDI, but there is a roughly 2 second delay where you signal gets muted while all the parameters for the various effects are loaded. If you can work your sounds and board switching around those brief interruptions, it'll be a very effective system.
@@PedalPlatform Thanks for the quick reply. I was seeing this as a favorable alternative to a Helix HX FX or a Fractal FX8 because of its simplicity and pedalboard real estate, but I guess if they don't fix this then it kills the Plethora for me... :/ Keep up the good stuff.
Flick to Edit mode, go to Settings \ Global \ Product Settings \ FSW Board and change it to Triple Tap FSW 1/2. Under FSW Board you'll also find FSW Activate Tuner, click in to it and change to Triple Tap FSW 5. 👍🏻
Thanks for your videos and sorry if this is a dumb question but I bought a Plethora X5, I have it connected into my amp's FX loop and I control it with my Boss ES-5 switcher. My question is: how can I avoid delays and reverbs being cut out when changing board? Thanks
Sorry to say that you can't, the Plethora has to reinitialise the effects engines when you switch boards, and that includes the audio buffers, so it isn't possible to keep the tails in that situation. If you need the sound continuity, it's better to switch between effects within the same board, or, if possible, generate some toneprints that can "morph" between different settings within the same effect. 🙏🏻
Great video! Does anyone have an idea on how to create a toneprint that emulates the pedal Crescendo Auto Swell or the effect of "auto volume swells" in the Plethora?
It's very difficult to get the parameters right, and it's very dependent on guitar and picking, but here you go: ua-cam.com/video/DNmxH-yfjjY/v-deo.html
Unless I missed it, I cannot find a video out there how one would use this in a Multi Channel Tube Amp application. What do you do about Delay's in the FX Loop of a Tube Amp if you're NOT using OD Pedals and the OD from the Amp itself?
Just ignore the Plethora's FX loop and use it in the amp's FX loop: amp FX send -> Plethora in | Plethora out -> amp FX return. It has enough headroom to deal with the both instrument and line level FX loops, and it'll provide a nice buffer for those tube amps that have less than stellar FX loops.
@@PedalPlatform First off, thanks for the quick response. Secondly, Hmm... I'm not a fan of running modulation (ie: Chorus/Phaser/Flanger/Wah) in the FX Loop. I normally push those in the front end, with Reverb and Delay in the FX Loop. I'll have to find some videos where someone demonstrates before dropping $500USD.
I think I misunderstood you there, my bad. For what you want to do you can use the so-called '4 cable method' and put the amp in the Plethora's FX loop. So that would be something like: Guitar -> Plethora in Plethora FX Send -> Amp in Amp FX Send -> Plethora FX Return Plethora Out -> Amp FX Return Then, on the Plethora, you can choose how many effect slots you want before the FX loop, i.e., in front of the preamp, and leave the other ones in the Amp's loop (delay, reverbs...). It works, I do it all the time with the Boss Katana and the principle is always the same. I'll see if I can get to do a demo of that.
Very useful - thx for sharing. Do you know? Is it possible to save a setting from an existing pedal (such as "sub n up" or others) and store it in the plethora?
Thank you :) No, toneprint sharing between equivalent pedals isn't implemented, but if it's a toneprint you created yourself and you still have access to it, you can recreate it on the Plethora with the toneprint editor. If it's an artist toneprint, it's already there and ready to be loaded. ;)
Sorry, I didn't explain it correctly - you'll have to create a new toneprint for the Plethora from scratch, but you can use the same parameters you used for the Sub'n'up - with the added bonus of using the expression pedal and MASH switch if you want :)
2 questions: 1) Are there any routing options, e.g. parallel routing? 2) Can the expression be possitive for one effect and negative for another? Lets say I have the expression possitive on a pitch shifter and a tremolo's rate, but as I raise the pitch and tremolo rate, I want it to fade out with a negative volume: getting the volume lowered as the others are raised. Thanks!
1) nope, but it's also a user request, so who knows what's coming down the TC pipeline 🤷🏻♂️ 2) yes, you just need to edit the corresponding curves on the TonePrints, then on the Plethora assign the Exp Pedal to "Expression Modifier" under each effect that you want it to affect. I explain the curve thingy in this video, if you haven't seen it before: ua-cam.com/video/aAS0BAeMwTQ/v-deo.html. Hope this helps!
Hi, very great video! I believe that the fx loop is mono, right? If so, that means that all the effects before it are going to be converted automatically in mono?
Thank you. When you say exact, do you mean in milliseconds or bpm? If it's the first, you have to do it with the pots. If they're not giving you the degree of precision you want, you can tweak their range via the toneprint app, or even set a flat curve with an exact value per toneprint (ua-cam.com/video/aAS0BAeMwTQ/v-deo.html). If you're thinking BPM, the option isn't available yet, but there are more users asking for it and TC are listening... in the meantime you can use something like www.keyandpitch.com/tools/bpm-to-ms-calculator/ to convert to ms and dial it in that way :)
@@PedalPlatform Thanks for your swift reply. Up until today the toneprint app let me access all pedals except delay but now it's working and I've edited to the exact millisecond that I needed. Thanks.
Are you using the flat mapping curve trick? Toneprints will always load mapped parameters to the positions of the pots on the physical pedal: if you save your toneprint at 400 ms but have, for example, the physical pot at 100%, it'll load at the top of the mapping range for the pot (7000 ms for unchanged digital delays). If you want to make sure it'll always load at a given value, you need to either unmap the delay value from the pot (not recommended) or use the flat curve. If you are using the flat map and it's still reverting, then it might be a bug.
Hi Pablo - that's not possible with the Plethora because it's not the concept TC was aiming for when creating it. Their concept was more related to immediate control of the individual FX and their respective MASH switches, with the added possibility of storing several boards that you can change between with the triple tap + up / down. That said, the MIDI implementation allows you to change boards via PC commands, so there is the possibility of using an external MIDI switcher for direct access to boards if you want the ultimate flexibility, albeit one that one take a lot of floor space 😁
Excellent. Bought one at 6pm yesterday, watched your vid and set up a board, and hit the stage with it at 8pm. A few tweaks during set break and this thing is good to go. Do you know if the current firmware allows EQ and other deeper editing functions on the board itself or do you still have to do that in the app? Thx!
Hi Marc, glad to hear that! I guess there aren't that many effects units that afford you the confidence to go from opening the box to the stage in 2 hours... 😁 No EQ on the current firmware, sorry. You can tweak an Hypergravity instance to give you a crude 3 band EQ in case of need (here's a video with the basic idea: ua-cam.com/video/6MVdyRiBzE8/v-deo.html), but there isn't a dedicated EQ. As for deep editing, that's still app based.
Could you do a video on how to set the expression pedal to control the reverb FX level from say 5% -30% (-70db - -10db I think) then control the Delay FX level from off -100db to -60db. I'm trying to use the expression pedal as a solo switch. Most modelers would call this the Mix level. So when in the heel position either effect will be nearly off or low, then at max (toe position) I'd want the effects around 20-40% mix level. I've trying to set it up but I can't get to sound right. Plus I'm to stupid to figure out all the mapping and expression parameters in the app. A simple mix level from 0-100, and a way to program your start and stop point like other modelers would be a lot easier. Other option of course is to just create a duplicate patch with FX levels adjusted.
Granted the Plethora is a nice concept and I like TC sounds ever since I got my Nova System. I just wish they had simpler ways to bank up and down because hitting a foot switch 3 times with shoes on is not easy in a live setting especially when the same foot switch is “mash” enabled. I wish there were simpler ways to get into a Tap Tempo, Bank up and Down, and having both Volume and expression pedals at the same time. A sloping front like the Boss ES8 would also help.
Marcus Therkildsen yes I know there is a toggle switch but as a guitar player in a live setting reaching down to the toggle switch between songs would be a challenge. I also know there is tripple tap way to get to bank up and down but I don’t know how easy that is given that the same foot switch is mash enabled. I have not got the chance to try the Plethora but other pedals that have double tap for one function or triple tap for another function have been difficult to use in the real world. That said I have always found TC products to be very easy to use in real world live settings. I love the tone print option that allows me to program the pedal to my liking (I need to do this only one else). From the time TC made the Nova System (what a lovely compressor and analog drive it has) I have been a TC fan.
Looking at the Plethora as a customizable 5 pedal unit rather an out-an-out MultiFX unit explains some of the design decisions that went into why it is the way it is. Having dedicated tap tempo, bank switches, 2 expression pedal inputs, etc would have made for a physically larger unit, and the trade-offs could be bigger than simply the extra size and cost. Also, as Marcus points out, you can use an external MIDI switcher to handle board switching - and because MIDI clock is also high on the developers feature list, MIDI tap tempo should also become possible in the future.
Pedal Platform yeah I have a Musicom midi capable looper/switcher but if I use that in the front my board and the Plethora ends up in the second or third row of pedals then I won’t be able to use the mash function of the foot switch. The plethora can be a replacement for all your modulation, delay and reverb pedals and would use only one loop in the looper/ switcher. I prefer most TC effects to Boss or Line 6. There are a few exceptions but generally if I have to choose one it would be TC. I wouldn’t mind a larger format if they incorporated tap tempo, bank up/down, a volume pedal loop, etc. Maybe there will be a X7 or X8 that does this in the future. I just made a quick and dirty concept X7 board but I can't post the picture here because UA-cam won't allow me. I can email it if you want.
Absolutely: Cable 1: Guitar -> Plethora IN; Cable 2: Plethora FX Loop SEND -> Amp IN; Cable 3: Amp FX Loop SEND -> Plethora FX Loop RETURN; Cable 4: Plethora OUT -> Amp FX Loop RETURN. This gives you flexibility in deciding how many Plethora FX slots you want before and after your amp's preamp, just by moving the insert point around on the Plethora's boards - factory default is 2 before / 3 after, but you can easily change it on the menu (see tip #8, at 4m40s). Hope this helps!
Very useful, thanx! The triple tap of footswitch no. 5 to enable the tuner doesn't work with my Plethora and I just updated it to the latest firmware 1.1. Any hints?
You're welcome! If you go to Edit > Settings > Global > Product Settings, do you have a FSW Activate Tuner option? If so, check that Triple Tap FSW 5 is active :)
Mine seems to be working - are you able to get into tap tempo mode by pressing and holding the switch? Also try raising the depth parameter to 50% or more, the effect isn't always obvious below that.
@@PedalPlatform Thanks and yes, I adjusted all parameters from low to high, but the vintage setting doesn't work (the others do). Hmm. And I miss a few nice effects like Vibe, Rotary or the Alter Ego Vintage Delay, which I had as the standalone pedal and was very good. I think about a change with the Boss MD-500...
The Viscous Vibe has been confirmed for the 1.2 firmware update later this year, together with the Helix Phaser and a looper :) Other effects are being considered, as well as other user requests, and TC are actively listening to user input, so there's hope. ;) If you haven't yet, pop over to this thread on the MusicTribe forums (bit.ly/2WphAC8) and let them know what you'd like to see. :)
@@PedalPlatform Fwupdate 1.1 was released the 14 of april 2020 :) www.tcelectronic.com/Categories/Tcelectronic/Guitar/Effects-Processors/PLETHORA-X5/p/P0D9M/Downloads#googtrans(en%7Cen)
Hi, great video! Do you think that TC Electronic team will make switching among boards quicker (or at least will allow to have two or more effects already "on" when you go on a specific board) with future upgrades? The "Pedal Dance" is not so comfortable... And a digital version of the TC Spark Booster could be implemented in the Plethora?
Thank you! All good questions - switching the boards takes a bit of time because of having to reload all the related effects parameters, so I'm not sure how much quicker they'll be able to make it. It's slightly quicker over MIDI Program Change though, since the software doesn't have to wait to check what board you want to switch to. As for the effects on / off status, the Plethora remembers them from the last time you used a specific board, so if you need a specific combination when loading a specific board, make sure you leave them on whevener you come out of that board and that's how they'll come up the next time you load it. With regards to the Booster, there are more users asking for some kind to be implemented - I don't know if that's going be a digital interpretation of the Spark, a pure volume boost, or if it'll even ever be implemented, but the TC people are still hard at work on new features, so we'll see where they end up :)
Cheers! I've had good results with both the Boss FV-5L and the M-Audio EX-P, both at the opposite ends of the price and sturdiness spectrum. 😁 That said, the EX-Ps seem to handle a bit of abuse better than I'd give them credit for. I also have a Hotone Ampero Press and a Soul Press II that I need to test, but haven't yet so I'll reserve judgement until then. As for plugs, the M-Audio has a built-in cable with a stereo plug; the other ones need a TRS / stereo cable to work with the Plethora. Hope this helps!
Check on Edit > Settings > Global > Product Settings; do you have a FSW Activate Tuner option? If so, check that the Triple Tap FSW 5 option is active :)
Thanks for this. What is the most ideal place to put an overdrive pedal when using 4 cable method? Seems I can place it as GTR -> OD - Plethora input. Or I can place it at the MFX SEND - OD - AMP INPUT.
Hi Nathaniel, both of your options will work, but if you want a bit more of an in depth look at it, check this video: ua-cam.com/video/N0ukWiah5bU/v-deo.html
@@PedalPlatform Aces. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos on the X5. I have had mine for 3 days now and with no manual, one has to learn from guys like you. GREATLY APPRECIATED, I know making YT videos is very time intensive.
Can you do the quick switching of pedal order on the x3? I've tried holding down the buttons of the pedals I want to swap over but all it does it activate the board up/down system.
You either do it manually (load the effect / toneprints on the corresponding slots), or turn off the board changing temporarily while you set stuff up, then turn it on again when playing. There's no perfect solution here, so it's a matter of deciding which one is less of a bother in any particular situation.
Great video! Just got mine, it's a used one. Question... in edit mode, when I try to change the tempo of the delay, it still shows the tempo in ms, then after switch back to play mode, it shows in bpm. Is there any way to change to bpm in the edit mode? Thank you very much!
@@PedalPlatform You’re very welcome! Thank you for replying so quickly! That’s unfortunately, one of the big reasons I bought this pedal is I’d love to see the bpm when I setup the delay tempo, I won a Flashback X4 and I love the sound!
Yeah, that's basically the only way it'll show bpm. It's a bit of a pain, but let's make some noise and hope they include it in a possible future firmware update. 😁
@@PedalPlatform that is so unusual. smaller pedals you can turn off by switching an on off pedal. I would imagine the screen would eventually be damaged by staying on all the time or the power socket will eventually fail requiring a repair
Hi, Phillipe (spelling?) - You're way over the top on understanding this Plethora gizmo - bravo! How do I delete a board? I tried to put one together and then decided I didn't want to keep it. So I made five empty slots and now the board says something like "Empty Board - please add stuff" (essentially). I went on the app on my phone and that only lets me reorder or rename - no delete. How to do this? Do I need the editor on my laptop to do it? Thanks for your help! Bob
Hi Bob, thank you for the kind comments! 🙏🏻 You don't need anything else to delete boards, just the Plethora: go into Edit mode, and instead of flicking the "board" mini switch up to create, flick it down and the delete menu will show up. 🙂
@@PedalPlatform Thanks! I looked everywhere for that function, except, of course, to flip the switch down... These Danish software people have a mind of their own sometimes... You’re welcome but, FYI, this doesn’t work on the X3
Thanks!
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Sorry, I seem to have missed your question… the loop does have AD/DA conversions to get in and out of it. Sorry I missed it the first time!
Mine will be delivered today - thanks for this video, I’m sure I’ll be looking at it quite often in the coming days, to get my X5 dialed in!!
Excellent, hope you have fun with it!
Have you checked Settings > Global > Product Settings > FSW Activate Tuner?
@@PedalPlatform Awesome! Thanks for taking the time!
Brilliant video my friend. But is there a way that the Plethora can change channels on my Boogie amp as per my G-system? That is my only concern.
Great video! The manual that comes with the pedal is absolutely useless. This video is great!
Thanks for this video. It’s helped me a lot with the Plethora x5. I wish you could do a tutorial on the Grace Design Felix 2 preamp.
Oooh, that looks awesome, but unfortunately it's way out of my price range for now... 😕
Well, I’m sold.

Great video! I just bought one! In Board 1 which is what I am using at the moment. Is the compressor in the loop or before with the 4 cable method? Is there a way to choose in setup? Thank you
thank you , that will help me a lot when i get mine
I can confirm that an Ernie Ball low-impedance volume pedal (25k-Ohm) works just fine as an expression pedal for the X5. Single TS cable from the volume pedal output to the X5's expression input. Go through the calibration procedure on the X5.
Great Video! is it possible to change the presets directly from the Plethora without latency times for live use? Or do you necessarily have to have a midi pedal? Thank you!
Really useful looking forward to diving into mine!
Thanks Toby!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi, did you already updated firmware to 1.3.11? When I did on my plethora x5, I suddenly lost all the shortcuts like board changes using toggle and tuner and all other stuff, can you help on how fix it? Thanks
Excellent presentation, thank you for your time and effort. Kind regards from Peter Bennett, Victoria , Australia.
Thank you Peter! (I wasn't late replying this, it's just the time the message takes to get from Portugal to Australia... honest! 🤐😄)

Thank you, glad you liked it! :)
I down tune a semitone to Eb, can the Plethora tuner be set to accomplish this?
The tuner in the Plethora is chromatic, no need for adjustments :)
@@PedalPlatform I got mine a couple of days ago, and I'm learning the functions. I tried the chromatic tuner this afternoon, and it works great for down tuning.
Quick edit: Seeing D+ looking like
C 1 + threw ne, in the first instance
[I have impaired vision]. I thought of C 1 on the piano...
Then realised it was D+ meaning D# (Eb).
Otherwise, great.

Good to know! 🙏🏻 Enjoy your new toy 😁
Excellent !

they need a full size G system version with and extra row of foot switches. and more connections on the back.
That might be cool :)
I still use and love my g system. There still no product on the market that solves the problems the g system solves in such an elegant way. I would definitely buy a revamped version with tone print software.
Is there a delay when you turn the effects on and off like on some multi effect, or is it seamless, like individual pedals
Hi! It's seamless within each board, just like clicking individual pedals on or off. There is only a bit of lag when changing between boards.
The triple tap on 5 to enter tuner mode isn't working me.. was this changed in a later update?
Will the pedal remember my delay time setting if I switch presets and then back? I'm hoping that fiddling with the knobs won't change it permanently just well performing

Is there anyway I can reset it to do this by tapping the button three times so that I may move up and down through banks
Flick to Edit mode, go to Settings \ Global \ Product Settings \ FSW Board and change it to Triple Tap FSW 1/2. Under FSW Board you'll also find FSW Activate Tuner, click in to it and change to Triple Tap FSW 5. 👍🏻
Hello, can I use Plethora as a footswitch to mix my single pedals and racks?
can you add in one slot for example slot number 1 ,more than one fx?
Not in the same board (preset). Each slot can only take 1 effect per board.
@@PedalPlatform Thanks a lot for such a fast reply! ;)
VERY COMPLICATED
Looks more complicated than it is once you get the moves under your fingers. 😉
@@PedalPlatform thanks, I will give a try!
So that would be something like:
Guitar -> Plethora in
Plethora FX Send -> Amp in
Amp FX Send -> Plethora FX Return
Plethora Out -> Amp FX Return
Then, on the Plethora, you can choose how many effect slots you want before the FX loop, i.e., in front of the preamp, and leave the other ones in the Amp's loop (delay, reverbs...). It works, I do it all the time with the Boss Katana and the principle is always the same. I'll see if I can get to do a demo of that.
@@PedalPlatform I wondered if the Pleathora would work that way and if there was something in the I/O setup.
If it's an artist toneprint, it's already there and ready to be loaded. ;)
@@PedalPlatform
So I can store my personal setting of my sub'n'up on my laptop and restore it to the plethora. Is it right?
Sorry, I didn't explain it correctly - you'll have to create a new toneprint for the Plethora from scratch, but you can use the same parameters you used for the Sub'n'up - with the added bonus of using the expression pedal and MASH switch if you want :)
@@PedalPlatform My Plethora will arrive today ... I'll check it out. Thanks for explaining. Stay save!
@@PedalPlatform Thank you so much!
Hi, very great video! I believe that the fx loop is mono, right? If so, that means that all the effects before it are going to be converted automatically in mono?
Exactly right 👍🏻
How do I set the mash button?
I'm selecting it, but it doesn't seem to work
Great Beforehand info ! 👍Getteing my Plethora in a few days, so GREAT 2 know just "Where-2-start" Thanks 💚😎
Excellent, hope you have fun with it!
Is there a trick to getting the Bluetooth connected? I’m having trouble. Loved this video!
Thank you! What device are you trying to connect to?
Pedal Platform iPhone. But I finally got it connected. Once I opened the Tone a Print app connecting was almost immediate. Thanks again.
Great, good to know.
Very helpful but how do I dial in an exact delay time?
Thanks.
Every setting I try to save a new toneprint it reverts back to the original delay time setting. It won't save the millisecond settings!!
@@PedalPlatform Thanks. I've tried moving the curve but couldn't fine tune it to 375 ms . I fear the machine is haunted...
Hello there, great channel, should be great have a different board on each footswich it is possible?
Hi Pablo - that's not possible with the Plethora because it's not the concept TC was aiming for when creating it. Their concept was more related to immediate control of the individual FX and their respective MASH switches, with the added possibility of storing several boards that you can change between with the triple tap + up / down. That said, the MIDI implementation allows you to change boards via PC commands, so there is the possibility of using an external MIDI switcher for direct access to boards if you want the ultimate flexibility, albeit one that one take a lot of floor space 😁
01:20 Whitesnake? Sweet! I wanna hear that Pedalboard Set!! 🤘
It's factory board #1, so it should be easy to find. ;) Just had a drive in the effects loop, and rock on ;)
No EQ on the current firmware, sorry. You can tweak an Hypergravity instance to give you a crude 3 band EQ in case of need (here's a video with the basic idea: ua-cam.com/video/6MVdyRiBzE8/v-deo.html), but there isn't a dedicated EQ. As for deep editing, that's still app based.
Thanks for the quick and clear info, mine will arrive tomorrow :-)
You're very welcome, hope you enjoy it!
Where you bought it? Amazon?
@@zulhafizzariq3391 No, bought it from Thomann.de, I've had it pre-ordered all the way back from February ...
There's a dedicated toggleswitch to switch between boards. Furthermore you can change boards via midi
Hi can you explain how to use 4 method cables? thank you
Absolutely:
Cable 1: Guitar -> Plethora IN;
Cable 2: Plethora FX Loop SEND -> Amp IN;
Cable 3: Amp FX Loop SEND -> Plethora FX Loop RETURN;
Cable 4: Plethora OUT -> Amp FX Loop RETURN.

@@PedalPlatform Thanks, it works! 👍 But now another problem: the Tap Tremolo in the "vintage" setting doesn't have any noticeable effect. 🤨

@@PedalPlatform Thanks for your kind reply!
Thank you for video. I've a question, can I use the midi connection to change the channels of the preamp? how can i program this function? Thank you
Hey Simone, that'll be a no. The Plethora only has MIDI In and Thru ports, so it cannot act as a controller.
hi ))
say pleease how many seconds on one record loop?
Hi man, thanks a lot for the videos! What expression or volume pedal do you recommend and how does the plugging look like ? Thanks!

Try dropping into the Edit menu, Settings, Product Settings, and activate Quick Swap.
@@PedalPlatform That worked! Thanks!
Is there any whammy effect which I can control with exp pedal :D
How do you change FX order on the Plethora X3 if the two foot-switches are set to change the board?
You either do it manually (load the effect / toneprints on the corresponding slots), or turn off the board changing temporarily while you set stuff up, then turn it on again when playing. There's no perfect solution here, so it's a matter of deciding which one is less of a bother in any particular situation.
@@PedalPlatform I switched to the triple taps on 1/2 for board switching. That's a decent compromise for my workflow.
Great video! Just got mine, it's a used one. Question... in edit mode, when I try to change the tempo of the delay, it still shows the tempo in ms, then after switch back to play mode, it shows in bpm. Is there any way to change to bpm in the edit mode? Thank you very much!
Thank you! 🙏🏻 And nope, edit mode is always shown in ms. 😕
@@PedalPlatform You’re very welcome! Thank you for replying so quickly! That’s unfortunately, one of the big reasons I bought this pedal is I’d love to see the bpm when I setup the delay tempo, I won a Flashback X4 and I love the sound!
The only way I can see the bpm while I turn the knob is, set the secondary fsw function as tap tempo, and set the one of the hot knobs as delay time….
Yeah, that's basically the only way it'll show bpm. It's a bit of a pain, but let's make some noise and hope they include it in a possible future firmware update. 😁
Is there a way to turn plethora off without disconnecting power?
Nope, it works on the same principle as the smaller pedals - if the power cable is plugged in, it's on :)
@@PedalPlatform that is so unusual. smaller pedals you can turn off by switching an on off pedal. I would imagine the screen would eventually be damaged by staying on all the time or the power socket will eventually fail requiring a repair
This def needs a shut off option or screen off option.
But, as someone with a G-system that I got eight years ago, the Plethora is simple by comparison.
Thanks so much for your help!
Keep up the great work - a lot of what you do is way beyond me, as in, I can see what you're doing, but would never get that far to understand what is actually going on inside this thing.
Bob
Glad I could help, Bob! 😄
I changed the MS to BPM but I still see MS when editing time on delay
