Thanks for watching, and if this is the content you like, let me know so I can make more of it!
Wow, you're very articulate, to the point, and do some good editing work. Definitely deserve more subs!
I m subbed .
Great review👍🏽. Earned a sub. Hopefully IGN will copy your next review so you can earn a few thousand subs.
Lololololol
Wow, ur review is thorough and to-the-point. This video deserves way much more thumbs up.
I've put tons of time into this game over the last few days, and your review is spot on. I'm playing on the xbox, and i literally put down my controller any time I have to sleep, it is about a minute wait time; They could have done a lot more optimizing. That being said, I can't put it down. Always something to work towards, and the music is amazing (even though music transitions between areas are really blunt/rough - a fading transition would have made a huge difference.) Anyways, you've earned a sub and a like.
great review man. loved all the specific points of both pro and con
So I'm one minute in, and you've already given me more info than the ENTIRETY of the other 'review' I watched, whose only selling point was being 2 minutes long. 2 minutes of watching some dude add pointless narration to context-less gameplay footage, flirting with the 'similarities to stardew' but never really saying anything about them one way or the other. Like, "you'll be let down", "they do a decent job"... NOTHING.
Just some dude. Blabbing for 2 minutes and calling it a review.
Thank you for a a GOOD review!
I started playing this game a few days ago and its really fun, but it took me a few hours of play to really get started because I didn't know what to do and I didn't seem to be leveling up? Then I looked up a tutorial on how to make a specific machine, and I realized that you had to manually unlock stuff in the technologies menu.
I love fell in love with the concept but was a little miffed that it wasn't explained all that well in-game and that I wasted so much time looking around for nothing.
I do like the game a lot, its a nice change from stardew valley while "scratching the same itch" as it were, but yeah I agree that it has some issues that, judging by the date of this video, aren't going to be fixed anytime soon.
I was about to get this game. Guess I'll wait a little longer.
Yes I have that same feeling.
It's still a good game , don't be discouraged about it..
This game expect me to take notes and remember stuff... so 90s....
Hey dude, I'm new around but you seem like a really UNDERRATED channel. I hope you gain a lot of more subs! I've subbed and liked this video, good luck.
Hey thanks man! I'll keep doing my best; hope you enjoy.
Amazing review! I'm working on one as well and I agree with you on so many points. Especially the long walks. We definitely need some type of carriage (to maybe dispose of bodies more discreetly?)
Thanks! Yeah, some sort of wagon or caravan to both move a little quicker + carry more heavy things at once would really help for sure! Just something unlockable to give you some reward for toughing out the slowness. A blueprint/crafting quick reference menu you can access anywhere would also be HUGE for this game.
I heard awhile back in the future update they're adding zombie servants , I never knew that. It was on the reviews on Xbox one , for those who bought the game
You earned a subscriber bro
Thanks for the honest review. The first few I watched were just a half hour or so of gameplay. Not really what I'd call a review. I'm a couple hours into the game and have been enjoying the lack of hand-holding regarding quests. I have sworn to stay off the internet for that sort of help. I think it gives a much-needed challenge to the game beyond just grinding and waiting.
That's fair! Honestly I'm all for challenge and exploration when it's intentional -- but when I'm told a hint and I just forget it (or accidentally skip the text!) and can't get it back, that's pretty unforgiving. Clotho's quest a little later in the game is a good example of this. Glad it works for someone though bc I do really want this game to be good lmao
Yeah, I understand you. No doubt, this game is not without its fair share of bugs and issues. The Town and The Fort were obviously just slaps in the face. Your review was more than fair. I do hope there are future patches to even things out. From what I gather, they've already been hard at work on hotfixes (not that it should've been necessary to release a patch on day one).
Wow, you had my attention for the entire video lol I think I will play it..maybe
Fair Review (Y) cheers dude
3:33 the mechanic of being able to rest and wake up during the same day would be very nice in Stardew Valley.
After the honeymoon period had passed (got to winter on my first play through then restarted), my Stardew Valley experience became soured because of the realization of all the things I had missed out on. I wanted my main play through to be as fulfilling as possible. SO every decision came with over calculation, and soon Stardew Valley became Spreadsheet Valley. In an ironic way my attempt at making a better play though destroyed all intentions finishing the game. I just obsessed over the little things
Haha, I totally understand! I tend to overthink Stardew Valley a lot too, consulting the wiki all the time and using the farm planner available online before I even start a new save. I have to remind myself that there's no time limit; you don't have to get everything done in the first year, and sometimes it's impossible.
On the subject of going to bed for energy, Stardew does have the sauna you can use to recoup energy, at least -- but it still wastes a ton of valuable daytime. I recommend eating Hops for energy, prior to getting the kitchen. You'll probably have a ton spare from wanting to make Pale Ale out of them, and they give a fair chunk.
That is, if you ever get back into the game, anyway!
Well done sir! The kind of reviews I like. You’ve earned a new subscriber.
great review. well done.
I played the game the past couple of days and just finished. I have to say I agree with that it's terribly grindy, and often for no satisfying reason: towards the end of the game there are a number of things you need to do with the same NPCs and they will ask you for an item that cannot be created in the same day and thus makes you wait another week til they visit again. This makes the end game terribly repetitive and boring as, I for one, had completed everything else necessary (including maxing out all skill trees except one, apiary, vineyard, garden) and thus having to wait a whole week to get something to do. I will add to your remarks about the game being unpolished (still, as of April 2019), which I agree with, that it's very unbalanced: at the beginning to slightly after mid-game I felt like everything was so terribly intertwined that I couldn't do almost anything to upgrade..anything..then towards the end everything was done and I just had to wait weeks and weeks to get the necessary quest items (and opportunities to deliver them to visiting NPCs).
i LOVE your background music, give me a link to it , PLEASE!
thought you had like a couple thousand subs very nice i can get into your vids keep it up
I quite like it, but I felt like too little was explained clearly in terms of what's required of you and the crafting system. I spent most of the early hours completely lost as to how to acquire certain materials, for example. The world also feels really dry in terms of characters. They all feel kind of one dimensional and generic. They lack the distinct personalities of the characters in Stardew, which this game makes no secret about being derivative of.
Thanks for doing this vid! Very informative and helpful.
This is one of the better reviews man good job
A lot of what you said makes sense. Thank you!
Great Review. Thanks!
Great review man
Thank you.
Good review. Hope they polish the game. It seems really good!
"Walking is slow"
Me drinking my 50th speed potion: "Huh?"
best game to play when covid 19 is lose !
Yeah, that was a great video, and thank you for putting words on what I think of this game :)
Great review. :). I found this game on xbox game pass, i will try it out later, i like to play games with no stresselements now and then
Great review! I'd like to know your thoughts on "A Place for the Unwilling"; it does not look that different from this game...
Thank you! I'll make a note of this and investigate when I have some time.
Great review, you should review kynseed
Great review!
Will this run on my RTX 2070 Super?
Great review , gonna play more stardew instead :D
Thank You for the review I want to buy but that grind lol
How to solve travel?
Implement horse riding
How is this not already done?
to deal with potential loss of frames, make it so when riding the horse you see from the horses perspective. That is to say, since the horse has blinders on, you can only see what is in front of you and not a very wide viewing angle. This limits horse riding to areas of the map you know well, and are relatively strait or open.
If you get off the horse and walk away so it is no longer in sight, it wanders back to your house (teleports really). Building posts (to tie the horse to) in pre determined locations would allow the player to ride the horse to and from a location, since the horse cant wander back home.
Proper maintenence of a horse could also be included. Like if you ride off the roads through rocky terrain, you damage the hooves which reduce the horses speed. This creates a min/max travel time, where you travel fastest by combining horse riding on roads or flat grasslands with walking on rocky or hilly terrain.
Combing and properly feeding the horse could give temporary bonuses to travel speed, so make sure to feed them in the morning before heading out, and be sure to groom them later in the day before you head back out later in the day (since feeding and grooming would be restricted to once a day to allow for further min/max travel speed by properly timing horse care)
playing on a laptop with geforce 720M. performance is pretty bad, a 2D game should run far better, but it's playable.Goes up to almost 2GB of ram usage which is frankly ridicolous. i think last patch they fixed "tech orbs" getting stuck by replacing the code with something completely inefficient, because i do get 1 FPS when i come home and my furnace has smelted 15 things until i pick them up.
Interesting to hear! And not exactly surprising lmao. Sucks though, I really wish this game were better optimized. If that's what the hotfixes are doing though, doesn't seem promising for the future....
Thanks for the review :)
Also, anyone knows if the issues listed here still exist in the current version of the game?
They do but tbh it is a good game for one Playthrough. I am on my second one (achievement hunting) and I have to say when you already know the story the waiting is a fun killer. The Game is still one of the prettiest ones I played in a long time and totally worth to be snatched up on a sale.
@@Nettleroot thanks for the reply :)
Did anyone actually finish this game? On reddit they state you can't even go to the town? I'm not playing anymore until I know it's a finished game and not just a rushed job like they claim.
It's "finished" in a sense, in that there's an end to get to; there's a video of the ending available on youtube that I found after finishing this review -- which had I known about, I would have mentioned. But no. You apparently can't go to the Town, or the Fort. There's still hours of gameplay -- but it's definitely the rush job everyone's saying.
I'd treat this like an early access game: if you're good with what's available right now, go for it, but otherwise, don't give these guys your money. The lack of care on their part is just infuriating.
Aw man, really? Geez, that's a bummer. I've been going back and forth on whether or not to pick this one up because I really like the concept, but that's honestly disappointing to hear. Guess I'll just keep my eye on it until it gets to a more complete state of existence :/
thanks for this...
Wow this game is love at first sight
hope it will be fixed and released on ps4 :)
I like this game, but the energy mechanics are completely TERRIBLE and they need to be balanced! I've read a lots of people complain about "grinding", for me, it's fine. I like grinding. And the crafting isn't bad, BUT THE ENERGY MAKES ME RAGE. I don't get it, maybe the devs thought that a horrible energy bar would make the game more fun and engaging.
I feel it lmao. I've heard people say it gets better if you make & eat a bunch of food, but honestly, I wonder if the energy mechanic isn't completely superfluous? I don't know that there would be any harm in letting the player do all the grinding they wanted without having to stop every five minutes to take a nap.
Tried it on Android but it's a bit laggy on a 2gb ram phone. refunded.
Good review! Sub!
This game is tedious, developers these days have no tech limitations but their own heads... The energy is too low feels like I'm always going home to sleep... And waiting for the stamina bar to recharge is tedious too. You need to much wood to keep the fire in the kitchen to cook stuff... Why is that even nessessary? Just to waste your time... If realism gets in the way of fun and makes processes s tedious its unneeded.
They were very lazy with programming this game. There's no penalty for abusing corpses and no penalty for getting out of bed early for the same reason the game has only ONE SONG and so many still unfinished elements a year later after 2 DLC packs. It's a lazy fucking cash grab suckering Stardew players into forking out the $$$
You can't go 45 seconds without checking Twatter on your phone? Get help man!
Grindy and slow and requires notes. Sounds an awful lot like Stardew Valley. Good thing both games have wikis so need to make notes
this game is just no fun for me...
I can't say that leaving out a quest log page is BAD, but it's also not good. We get our hands held WAY too much in the world of today's gaming market. "What was I doing? Let's check the quest log that THEY wrote for me" it's not terrible to have to write your own quest log. Play D&D some time, you'll be writing shit down ALL the time.
I strongly disagree. I have played D&D; the key difference between that and a video game, is that your D&D game will have a human behind it. If you miss what the DM said the first time, they will usually repeat it for you (unless they're trying to teach you a lesson.) A video game, however, has no way of knowing if you missed something, or if you need to hear it again, which is why quest logs and repeatable hints have become standard quality of life fixtures in gaming.
This is especially important if you put the game down for awhile, and have any intention of coming back to it where you were. Not even a quest log, but just the ability to talk to the same NPC again for an abridged version of what they said the first time is something that shouldn't be discounted.
Additionally, if you don't like having a quest log, you have the option to not use it. It doesn't work the other way round.
It’s annoying as hell to have to write a quest log especially if you play your switch while on your way to work and don’t have a pen and notepad next to you to take notes. You also don’t want to put your switch down while you take notes on public transport.
Too much note taking. 6/10
You didn’t even talk about the RPG elements involving the church and the priests.
Great review!
