So next time you see a friend with their mattress directly on the floor, know that they might actually be onto something.

What aspects of Japanese interior design have you incorporated into your home?

@@SerendipityNJ We love that!
Alllll loop of love is not the best thing that ever happens in this case to be the first 8th 75inches in this
Alexandra! Yea…. Btw, if you don’t follow her already, please do. She’s talented and adorable! Let’s get her to 1 million subscribers..
We're in!
Japanese floor mattresses are thinner and are usually lifted up and regularly aired. Leaving a western style mattress on the floor without ventilation may increase moisture and mold build up I would have thought
It absolutely would. I've seen it. A mattress on the floor without at least a pallet type frame causes mold growth and permanent staining of laminate floors. Unless you lift the mattress every morning to air for the day
That's a pro tip!
It does!
Came here to write the same comment…
Came here to say this! Western mattresses are NOT okay to keep flat on the floor.
Love seeing Alexandra host “A Style is Born!”
We're so happy to have her as a host!
Not me geeking out like “OMG, I recognize that dining room! Oooh, I’ve seen that bedroom before!” Like a Team AG Edition of “I Spy”.
This was a very educational and wonderful episode and Alexandra did a great job hosting. 🙌 I was floored (pun intended) by how little I knew about how Japanese Interior Design had such a global impact. So cool!
We LOVE Alexandra!
Me too!
Yessss! I was a huge fan of this series and also Iconic Objects and now they’ve gone and got two of my favourite interior UA-camrs? Dream come true 😍😍😍 you go, Alexandra and Becky from the Sorry Girls 🥳
We love making dreams come true!! ✨
I am 69 but way back in the early 1970's my first pass at designing my teen bedroom was a low to the floor Japanese aesthetic. While I have moved on to other things, I still love the feeling of peace my first attempt at design gave me
We love this!
Alexandra Gater??!!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
You got it!
Excuse me? Alexandra on Wayfair? Thats quite an accomplishment 😮

She's one of one!
Great job AG! 👏🏻 ❤ I also recognize that dining room as well as your own bedroom and living room! Cool 😎 😅
Oh my gosh I'm so excited! I am SO here for this!
YES
I love this new show with Alexandra! Japanese is not my style but I do remember watching a video with this guy talking about all the health benefits of sleeping on a mattress directly on the floor. Maybe I should try it.
I’ve been impressed by all three of this series’s hosts. I look forward to this series with Alexandra and hope someday we’ll see an incredible collaboration with all three! 🎆🎇
Love your channel, but this is next level. You rock at this. Wayfair is so lucky to have you.
We are!
Until the 1950s Indians would sit and eat on the floor. We slept on floors sometimes, esp when we had guests. And that generaion is waaay more flexible than me.
When we were in India in the 90s, folks in rural villages were still sitting on the floor for meals and gatherings.
So interesting!
When were in Japan in the 90s, we stayed with a family in their very modern house. They had one tatami room, reserved for ceremonies and specific occasions.
So cool!
One day....I'll buy myself that expensive floor height to standing height desk. I want it.
Congratulations they are lucky 🍀 to have you.
We agree!
I don’t like sleeping on the floor but I do like a lower bed! It’s easy to get in and out of,and I’m not short
What an amazing video 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thank you!
Love this, Alexandra! ❤
She's killing it!
best host yet! ❤ go team AG 🎉
She's the real deal!
Well hello there Alexandra!!! Go go team AG!! 🇨🇦
Thanks for stopping by!
LOVED IT! Congrats!!!! Love from Lima, Peru.
Thanks for watching!
Love it Alexandra ❤
Go Alexandra! 🥹🫶🏻
When I travelled around North Africa and the Middle East, most things were done on the floor, including sleeping eating, tea time and going to the bathroom. Squatting not chairs for thousands of years.
This style of living is much healthier for the body too
Alexandra! ❤
I’ve only subscribed liked and commented solely for Alexandra, with hopes Graham sees this as well…✨🖤💅🏽🤓✨
Congrats on the Wayfair piece!
Totally enjoy information on Japanese culture!
Looking forward to check out Japanese inspired furniture!
Arigato!🫶🏻
Glad you enjoyed the episode!
Amazing presenter!
Thank you so much... For me, English Country Cottage and American Transitional.
My son's room has tatami mats, and I'm currently thinking about getting a headboard that doesn't require drilling holes in the wall.
Love it!
I love the Japanese aesthetic.
We do too!
Great new series Alexandra! G Ire
She's the best!
I would think that the low to the ground style in Japan also came from the threat of Earthquakes. In terms of practicality at least.
Interesting theory!
❤️❤️❤️
I'd really like tô watch about brazilian modernism
If your bed is on the floor, the real question is: do you take off your shoes when you come indoors? If your floor has outdoor dirt on it, then the bed on that same floor is an issue. If your floor is kept clean, not a problem.
Much to consider!
Japanese are big on taking off their outside shoes and wearing slippers inside the home. The same is true for many other cultures.
Alexandra ❤❤🎉🎉
Is it that you feel more 'grounded' when sleeping closer to the floor - dare I say even 'protected'.
You did great, Alexandra. I totally had the thought of getting rid of my dining table and would love to just eat low to the ground. It'd be make an easier eating environment with 2 toddlers who love to be monkeys on chairs. 😅 We're stilling working on SITTING DOWN with my son.
We're wishing you luck! 😂
Hey you... I know u girl... Love your interior design idea..❤
My back is the problem by being on the floor.
I love to sleep on the floor with a mattress
I can’t set without back support.
I miss Caroline....😢
Sorry not for me. Never liked sitting on floor so I hardly ever did. Now if I have to get down I can not get up. Crossing my leg never could do it. No idea how the Japaneese people can do it. My bones just dont fold😂😊 I do admire who can sit on the floor and be comfortable.
