Abuse (violence, sexual, financial, emotional etc ) all starts with manipulation, coercion, and gaslighting. If you ever have a worry about a friend's partner and they look like they are being emotionally manipulated like this woman was, make sure you let them know they have a safe space at your house always. NEVER ask why they haven't called the police. This often stops victims from seeking help or calling the police later on if and when the abuse escalates.) We need to teach our children, boys and girls and everyone in between that THIS is what an unhealthy relationship can look like. It doesn't need to be a punch, and often before it becomes physically, financially or emotionally abusive it looks like this.
As someone who, as a teenager, was unknowingly very manipulative and emotionally hurting my partner without realizing it, *PLUS* last year I escaped an extremely abusive (both mentally and physically) marriage to a cruel alcoholic partner, I have strong opinions on this. Part of being in love is having some interest in that person's background. You're not marrying a cardboard cutout after all. I'm bilingual, I'm encouraging my wife to be bilingual, and our daughter is also going to be bilingual at least. If anything, it'd be a disservice for our kids not to have some cultural ties to the country her mom and I grew up in.

@@ness7342 I agree, while it may be different, kids shouldn't be raised to think that you can only have one wife/husband and one family. That's just not true and not natural at all. Of course if that's what you want, it's fine. But plenty of people get divorced and have kids with others. I know it's not the same as polygamic but I agree that if that's what BOTH partners want, not just the man or women, you can still teach kids that you may have that it may not be normal and work for everyone, but it can happen, and they can choose to have a monogamous lifestyle. I will admit, though, that having older kids and then suddenly saying you are god's vessel and you need to sleep with multiple wives (but it just ends up being one) and trying to have a weird half sibling community is unhealthy, especially because the wives are not allowed to have another man/women if they want.

Well to me it makes more sense for the person who doesn’t speak English to learn English, just because English is a universal language used in every country in some way, when you go to foreign countries their road signs even have English on them, but say if you were to learn Polish that’s only useful in Poland. Just a thought

I'm bilingual, I'm encouraging my wife to be bilingual, and our daughter is also going to be bilingual at least. If anything, it'd be a disservice for our kids not to have some cultural ties to the country her mom and I grew up in.

I went to Costa Rica with my school and our tour guide made sure to take us all over Costa Rica. It’s a beautiful place. I loved the nature and how kind the people are. We never stayed at our many hotels during the day. We went to local farms, a coffee plantation, and so on its amazing

Doesn't matter what color you are traveling to a 3rd world country can be shocking if you are traveling from Western Europe, Australia, Canada or The United States. This is especially true if you bother to leave the tourist areas and visit the actual country. The quality of life is vastly different.

I mean, I come from a "white" family I think, from southern Europe (we are not as white as northern Europe though) my grandfather's generation worked very hard to give my father's generation a good life and if my father does the same then there is generational wealth passed to me right? Side note: Despite trying my grandfather left mostly debts and my father did not generate any wealth at all.
