I like the fact that although JD is the main source of comedy, very goofy character - he is totally NOT incompetent. You would think such character must also be really bad at it job - but it is here that "Scrubs" destroy your preconceptions

In the beginning, The Todd is the best surgical intern. Turk becomes the #1 surgeon, while JD is the #1 doctor in internal medicine. However, JD wasn't ALWAYS #1. He was the #1 intern, but in season 4, Elliot catches up to him. That's why Cox makes them BOTH Chief Residents, and tells JD to swallow his pride and ask Elliot for help doing stuff that she's better at.

Yeah, Elliot and JD are just about as good as each other with a couple of different strengths and weaknesses. JD struggled with Crash codes and was slightly better at diagnosing patients on the other hand Elliot had confidence issues that undermined actual ability.
JD got over his crash code problem, BUT he always been a lot better at diagnosing, why elite was middle of the pack, cox even said how good JD was. Elliot even said after years of you being the golden boy, i finlay at a place were i can help you with something.
