People ignorantly assume bands like Slipknot is angry music for angry people. Total Opposite. We're letting the music be mad for us, its therapy. You feel like you got some shit out of your system when you're you're done listening, and you feel calmer.
as a listener and knowing every lyric to every Slipknot song I 100% agree with you but realistically in that time of 1999 it was angry music for angry people and can be seen that way very easily
Slipknot has bounce and the vocal performance always hits, it has a punk rebellious energy with respectable rap delivery. As an old-school rap head, they are one of the bands that really hit along with Korn. LP as well.
It's really cool to see people experiencing this album for the first time as this album was the first album that really got me into music. I remember seeing the cover in a GradeAUnderA video and turning on Spit It Out. It really threw me for a loop and didn't really like it but, the morning after I decided to relisten and then that's when it clicked. That was early 6th grade and now I'm in my senior year of high school, crazy how time flies. I still absolutely love this album and you should totally check out their second project Iowa. It's hyper aggressive and a super impressive record, one of my all time favorites.
When I heard this album in 1999 I instantly went from being into euro dance music to being a metal head. I’m not too keen on Slipknots more recent albums but can’t stop listening to this, I still haven’t heard anything that matches this insane energy.
Me too ...1999 started year 7 .....I think the album means more to people who heard it as kids / teenagers now than people today just listening to another nu metal band from 2000s
I know you considered scissors to be “trash” but, there’s an extremely dark story behind it if you do some research if you feel like it. it’s their darkest song imo. for example, the lyrics “biding my time until the time is right” is talking about the right time to take his own life- that being extremely dark. scissors overall has a dark but interesting message!
another thing to add is the vocalist’s (corey taylor) hysterical screams, which are just considered to be him releasing anger or trauma. that’s essentially what scissors is, a release of traumatic experiences. corey had a very dark past, as well as the other members of the band- and they perfectly incorporate it into their music. that’s what i love about them:)
For this reason, Scissors and Iowa (the song) are my favourites. If I ever really need to let out a lot of pent up anger I'll throw one of them on and scream along.
the producer said something about if Corey threw up a few times during recording, then you knew that it went well. Says a lot about the vocal style of Corey at this time
Welcome to the family brother. I can't wait to watch you take this journey as I had. I wish you well and good luck on the next album cuz it's the heaviest most brutal music ever created.
Been a long time since I visited this album. So glad I did with someone listening for the first time that has an open ear! One thing to remember about metal is, songs about beef aren't always necessarily about a specific person but just the expression of those emotions and songs about criminal or horror matter are often just the telling of a tale. Artistic expression is a wide spectrum. Thanks for making my work night pass 😂 I am an old school metal head who enjoyed live, the birth of thrash and many other genres of metal over the years and as an old head, still enjoy many styles. I now enjoy watching younger folks dive in to the madness 😂
Slipknot concerts are fucking insane bro. A song starts and the whole fucking crowd starts moshing instantly. And the crowd surfers start falling on your head and shit. It's awesome
I owe this album so fucking much, it openend a whole new world for me. Took me like about 10 listens to fully grasp it and im still exploring extreme music after all these years
Same the hardest I listened to was linkin park then one of my high school best friends showed me before I forget and it instantly clicked. Now my first tatoo was the s logo and I'm preparing a playlist for my daughter
@1:04:45 it was very clear that you genuinely like this shit and Im here for it. Yes im an hour in non stop. This has been a great reaction bro! Finishing it up and hoping for Iowa cause got damnnnnn will you be blown away by that as we all were when it released long ago. Cheers man 🤘🏼
Glad you got to check this out. Love this album. Iowa is their next one and it’s fucking nuts…. Unbridled rage. You would probably enjoy the album after that one as well. Good luck with your UA-cam channel!
The deluxe 10 year anniversary edition of this album has a few extra cuts that are really good. Great reaction, by the way. Always fun seeing people get into an artist I've loved for a long time.
@@mediumvillainThe interlude was uploaded on Spotify by a good samaritan. It doesn't flow super well because you hear Purity's starting drums at the end - so you're going to hear them twice if you listen to Purity right after - but at least it's here
Eyeless is my second favourite slipknot song after disasterpiece wich is on the Iowa album and that break down in Eyeless goes hard the fact it goes slow then gets slower and heavier its just a masterpiece
Energetic music with passion like this is what they dont want to be mainstream so they stigmatize it. Thats why low energy depressed music is mainstream. You got A LOT of good metal to catchup on. Its endless.

I remember the first time I listened to scissors it lowkey scared the shit outta me lmao like it felt unsettling but in a very intriguing way. that psychotic second half of the song for sure threw me off the first couple times but now its one of my favorites and is definitely one of slipknots more special tracks imo.

Idk if someone else said it already, but the "Can't see California without Marlon Brando's eyes" line that sounds weird but works bc it's so intense, was something Corey Taylor the singer heard a homeless guy yelling in LA. Just a cool little fun fact.
