Thanks for this very entertaining review. I remember as a bike mechanic working on one of those Moultons in the 80's which was built from Reynolds 531 tubing and was hugely impressed. Brompton's ion the other hand are heavy and horrible though very foldable.. There's a Ti Brompton now which removes the heavy though not the horrible

-Brom- Moultons really are a work of art aren't they - love the frame design and the simplicity of the front suspension in particular. Definitely an iconic design, not just within cycling circles either.

I’ve got a Moulton T27 and a Brompton ..the Moulton is much more comfortable and great suspension. Brompton good for folding and less open to theft..Both are actually very fast too

A good engineering explanation of the spaceframe Moulton and its development is Tony Hadland's book "The Spaceframe Moultons". Quite a detailed read. Alex Moulton's engineering expertise was quite impressive (Alex Moulton " A Lifetime in Engineering", with many of of Alex's rough sketches included). His ancestor worked with Goodyear on vulcanised rubber development and its application (eg bonding to steel for railway station buffers). The Moulton "factory" is still in the grounds of The Hall at Bradford on Avon, which can be visited to see the full handbuilt process. Other than the Brompton, I can't think of any bike design apart from Moulton, which innovated and departed so completely from the diamond frame bikes. Maybe the track bikes of Boardman, but nothing for road use. The SST and TSR seem good compromises, where perhaps 95 percent of the full handbuilt version capability is achieved at a lower cost (circa £2900 new instead of the circa £6500 starting price of a fully hand built version, rising all the way to circa £19000 for the top model).

Incredible bike. Im huge Tern Verge X range fan and have the X18 and X11. But if I ever buy another bike. I would love to get a Moulton TRS 30. Everyone knows Brompton as a British icon. But the Moulton is something else.

Hi, very interesting...I'm actually thinking of selling the Moulton and fancy getting a Tern Verge X11! Email me on jrhutchings@btinternet.com - I'd like to discuss...

with regards the front suspension ,a new fork with all the bits will cost you 700 quid plus! however it is possible to graft on telescopic forks from a 20 inch wheel mountain bike and they work just as well, and are stronger and cost about 50 quid.i have 7 spaceframes so i know what i'm talking about

It is not stainless steel. It is chrome moly - plain steel alloyed with small amounts of other materials. Stainless would cost a great deal more.

Julian was merely describing the similarities between a royal forking and the purchase of a Moulton bicycle, satirically speaking I’m sure.

Apparently you prefer the Bromton over the Moulton.

What a beautiful example, the bike's not bad either (Har-Har). That and the RSW 16 are the only bicycles I still lust after. I've promised myself I'll own one or other of them before I begin pushing up the daisies. Isn't this effing Brexit weather shit? Cheers 👍🏼

Having a preoccupation with suspension why don't you get a mountain bike. With your new hairstyle (daughter's cut) I can see you shredding with Younger riders especially with some of the recently reviewed cycling glasses. By the way has the recent eye operation made improvements mate
