Thanks for putting unpredictable movies in the chart. I now look forward to watching some of these that I haven't ever heard of. I also like that you recognise these are personal choices to you and don't bow to the most popular choices; I guess all movies are deeply personal in a way, even blockbusters like inception! - they will only effect you depending on what you've been through in your life to get there.

I dunno if I could narrow a list down to the 10 best films of the last 10 years or so, but I can say without reservation that my favorite film was one I was introduced to through your channel, Mark.
Before I reveal it, I just have this to say: The more films you see the more you tend to become a bit, to use the term in a mediocre way, jaded. You see the seams, the patches, the little itty bits that incrementally unravel whatever engagement a film builds. The great films suffer the least from this, appearing often as seamless, and continue to engage me well after I leave the theater. The worst never manage a moment's engagement, like Bucky Larson or Disaster Movie...
All this is to say that when a pleasant surprise in the form of a great film comes along, like what would come to be my favorite of the last 10 years, A Royal Affair, I can't help but feel a bit indebted to the man that introduced us. Especially as that man has given so much otherwise.
Kermode Uncut's absence will leave a hole not easily filled, as like the great films, you've engaged me as so many others with your passion, wit, generosity, knowledge, humanity, and accessibility. Thank you.

In This Corner of the World is beautiful. Everyone always says how Grave of the Fireflies is one of the most heartbreaking films ever, but it just feels so cold and distant. Meanwhile, In This Corner of the World deals with a very similar subject matter and it has so much more heart. I love the music in it as well.

I love love love that Of Time And The City tops the list. Talk about revitalising a genre. City Symphonies are beautiful but have been a dead genre for longer than almost everyone watching this video has been alive. Some of the most important films of all time were city symphonies and Of Time And The City tops basically all of them. Not my favourite of the last decade but a really beautiful film that deserves more eyes.

I was upset like everyone else when I realised that Mark was no longer doing Kermode uncut. From what I can gather though he is doing similar content on his Kermode on film podcast (available on Spotify) where he has just released his top 10 films of 2018. The reason I think this blog is stopping is because he is transitioning to Spotify where he will cover additional content aside from the 5live show. So if you're missing Kermode uncut check out the podcast, I'.m looking forward to more content in the hells video series.

I did my list of my ten on the previous video but I've actually seen Alfonso Cuaron's Roma since then & ,wow, it would now be a shoe-in to make my top ten. On a technical level it's an incredible achievement, not to mention that I litterally cried at the beach scene at the end, the emotions of the journey that movie had taken me on overwhelmed me by that point. I can honestly say that whilst I've been close before, no other film has ever brought me to tears until last week watching Roma.
