- Feet of a Dancer Maura O'Connell,
{written by Charlie McGettigan}
recorded Siamsa Cois Laoi, Cork, 1986.
I hope you find the feet of a dancer,
I hope you can sing in the rain,
I hope you find all the easy answers to your pain;
It won't be easy, what can I say,
There will be trouble along the way;
'Round every corner there's terror and tear,
Always remember that we're here.
I hope you find the feet of a dancer,
I hope you can sing in the rain,
I hope you find all the easy answers to your pain;
I hope you find love and affection,
I hope you find someone who cares;
I hope you find all the right directions everywhere,
Everywhere.
A shoulder to cry on whenever you're alone,
You can rely on us you know;
Nothing too crazy, nothing too dear,
Always remember that we're here.
I hope you find the feet of a dancer,
I hope you can sing in the rain,
I hope you find all the easy answers to your pain;
I hope you find love and affection,
I hope you find someone who cares;
I hope you find all the right directions everywhere,
Everywhere.
Sometimes when the rain comes pouring down,
When it comes pouring down,
Down on you.
I hope you find the feet of a dancer,
I hope you can sing in the rain,
I hope you find all the easy answers to your pain;
I hope you find love and affection,
I hope you find someone who cares;
I hope you find all the right directions everywhere,
Everywhere.
I hope you find all the right directions everywhere,
Everywhere.
i was at this concert in 1986, what a day! john denver,the wolfetones,maura o connell,the macarrigle sisters and more. bring back the siamsa!!!
I was at Siamsa in1986 I was18 there with some college friends , heard Maura Sing there for the 1st time and just fell in love with her music , she is in my opinion one of the best female vocalists to come out of Ireland ......
she is one of the best singers to come from anywhere.
So every year the teachers at my school sing this to the graduating class. now with my own graduation coming up soon, this song is killing me. good stuff.
Love this song ! My principal sang it to our 6th years last year at their graduation
I used to sing this to my daughter when she was small. Just posted it on my FB to revisit it whenever I want. Love it!
It was blustery. When I hear this, I can still feel that wind on my face. I was 21 and we did a lot of singing that day.
One of my favorite songs. My mother used to sing this too me when I was a baby. She was never as good as Maura, of course, but I loved it nonetheless.
We sang this at our graduation mass last year. That was exactly a year ago.
Was there that day in Cork in 1986 to see John Denver but Became a fan of all those on he stage - Maura O'Connell Charlie Mc Gettigan Nollaig Casey & Arty MC Glynn what a line Up and such a great song sung wonderfully by Maura!

:-) What a great singer and fantastic song definately hit the ball out of the park 10 out of 10
I played this for my daugher and son-in-law at their wedding reception.
Saw her in Portland, Maine last year and she still sounds as good as ever. One of the best female Irish vocalists of all time.

Now I know where American Country music found its roots. Never dawned on me before
American country music came from a blend of Irish, Scottish and English roots, as well as African American influence. These days, old time country and bluegrass are washing back to the UK and Ireland and making new hybrids. It was ever thus, and I hope it will continue The World is big jukebox now ;).

Pitty I was only 4 in 1986, Cois Laoi looks cool. I remember beat on the street out in the lee fields in 1996 thou. I can remember the big hype when Micheal J, came in 1988. Best of all though was Cork coming back with Liam Mc Carthy and Sam Maguire in september 1990.
James Deveraux I wasn't born then
It was cool. A brilliant day out - even the long walk out of the ground along with everyone else and the coach trip back to Wexford for us.
Geil!!!!
Thats the best german word for it!
It won't be easy
But what can I say
There will be trouble along the way
And around every corner
There'll be terror and tears
But always remember that we're here
[Chorus]
And I hope you find the feet of a dancer
I hope you can sing in the rain
I hope you find all the easy answers to your pain
And I hope you find love and affection
I hope you find someone who'll care
I hope you find all the right direction everywhere
Everywhere
[Verse 2]
A shoulder to cry on
Whenever you're alone
You can rely on us you know
'Cause there's nothing too crazy
And there's nothing too dear
But always remember that we're here

Yeah I know...somewhere, somehow, for some game, I had to choose a username and they wouldn't let me use eg2000, or about 10 other ones so SOMEHOW I became eggo50...stop laughing.
She has completely lost her Irish accent but thankfully not her voice.
