  • Even though henna is one of my favorite treatments for fast hair growth, if you're not careful, it can make your hair very dry and brittle. Here, I share my experience with henna damage and how I was able to repair my dry hair.

    Being a Bangladeshi we have used it for decades. How we do it is we apply it on dry/shampooed wet hair and wait for 2-4hrs if its for color (which you need to do once a month, no more than that) or 40min for just conditioning. I mix shikakai,retha,amla, fenugreek,aloe,curryleaf powder. Wash it off when its still wet, don't let the paste get dry. Wash it off without shampoo. Dry your hair naturally and apply flaxseed gel on detangled hair if it's too dry. On your 2nd day apply mustard oil and on third day shampoo it and do your normal hair routine as usual.
    Every other week or once every 15days you can do henna gloss and for the rest do hydrating mask which contains little to no protein...too much of anything is not good always... consistency and patience is the key.
    Hope it helped...

      Hi there, I’m new to henna and indigo, I had virgin black hair, but at 45 starting to get some whites and it was beautiful at first, but now at 48 my hairs is turning gray way to fast so I decided to dye my hair with henna plus indigo, I have to say my experience was ok , did dry my hair a lot even though I used aloe Vera and amla powder, whit the first brand I used, but the indigo didn’t color my now orange gray so I re apply the whole process again with a different organic pure henna and indigo brand powder, and what a difference my hair feels soft and no dry , again I used along with aloe Vera gel and amla powder, and I applied over damp hair, think the quality of the products and the application made it better for my hair, now I do have a question for you , you said you applied a flaxseed mask , and them a mustard seed oil mask , would this process would messed up the indigo dye, I just don’t want to do the process all over again , I will appreciate any advise thank you.

      @@Maracz47 no it doesn't interfere with indigo or henna color...in case of henna it needs 24-48hrs to set thoroughly thus everyone advices to wait for 2days before shampooing....flaxseed seed hydrated your hair and works as a leave in and mustard oil helps with too much frize but if you haven't used mustard oil do patch test since it can be too heavy...if it suits you that's good but if it doesn't try other one's that goes with your hair type...hope it has helped you

    The biggest mistake most people make with henna is they allow it to dry on their hair. Please don’t let it dry as it will dry your hair out. Make sure to cover your hair with glad wrap or a shower cap to lock the moisture and keeping the henna from drying out. Don’t leave it for more than 4 hours. If you follow that your hair will only benefit from henna.

      I had recently dyed my hair with henna and let me tell you before I didn't use any other dyes on my hair it was all natural. Anyways before I dyed my hair and follow the henna instruction and left it for 4 hour straight, In between the time I was waiting for the time to pass I started to have a itching reaction and didn't payed much attention so anyways when the time came too for me to wash it off some hair strands came off while washing and didn't payed much attention again cause hair falls it's natural. So anyways the next day and the others days that have past I have notice changes my hair started to fall off from the hair root and a lot I'm alarm and am feeling panicked with anxiety cause its falling off when I shower or when I'm not even showering or when combed my hair or just by running my finger through it their be strand of hair falling someone please help I really love my hair and I want to reversed the damaged it has caused or at least try before it all falls off and start looking like smeagol from lord of the rings 😭😭😭😭😭

    If you guys notice the Indian women do heavy hair oiling treatments regularly. This is how they avoid dried out henna hair and pretty much what you suggest. Hot oil treatments after henna are highly recommended.

    You have a very therapeutic voice. Thanks for the advice. I’m trying to be consistent with henna, once a month. I’ve switched products too which has helped my hair last longer too. I did have a point in my life (several years ago) when henna really dried my hair out. Adding some slip (conditioner and oils) prevented the henna from drying out my hair.

When I do a henna gloss, I defrost a henna ball and leave it at room temp... Once its totally soft and room temp, I add it to a coditioner, mix it and apply..... If you’re not using henna for the colour, then look into using cassia. Basically it’s like henna but without the drying side effect. As for henna use, i follow curly proverbz and henna sooq (who sells aryuvedic products) for tips and tricks on how to use henna and not have the brittle hair afterwards. The common additives they use are always marshmallow root and aloe vera in either juice, powder, or natural form.

    Great video, excellent points! New subbie here 😁
    The reason olive oil feels like it needs a "treatment and a half" is because it's not as fatty as avocado oil, therefore feels like it gives a more lightweight effect than avocado oil. These are the two oils that also work best on my hair, and they work EXACTLY as you described - combine the two and BOOM!!!
    You've given me a great idea; next time I henna I will:
    mix conditioner with hot olive and avocado oils, apply generously to hair;
    put on plastic cap for about 4 hours *then remove* - this will steam the treatment into the hair;
    put on woolly cap or cotton scarf, leave on at least 6+ hours - this will absorb treatment into hair;
    wash after 6+ hours or next day with sulfate-free shampoo - to remove excess oil;
    finish with regular conditioner.
    Henna leaves the hair fantastically shiny, full and gorgeous immediately after use but it does wear off and the dryness WILL creep up on you in time if you aren't 100% on point with your moisture levels, especially between treatments.

My volume hasn’t completely returned back but my volume is for sure coming back. Which makes sense with every wash, the henna is still falling out.

      Henna is not regulated. Natural henna conditions hair. However, some exporters sell henna adulterated with heavy metals or other toxins. This happens so often that hairdressers think henna is completely toxic. However, Ancient Sunrise henna lab tests its henna to ensure it is free of contaminants. When I use their brand, my hair is like silk. Big difference.

    I am so glad that I came across your video. I started noticing at the crown of my head my hair started breaking and looking really frizzy , I also noticed my edges were getting thin but I didn’t think it was the henna . I realized I may have been applying it more than normal also and then I really started to notice the breakage . I am definitely going to put the avocado oil in my deep conditioner and apply to my hair on my next wash day. Thank you so much for this video it was so informative and u gave me a lot of insight. Yes and yes I’ve experienced mad breakage. Nothing is helping. Maybe I was using too strong of henna treatments as well. I couldn’t quite pinpoint where it took place and I didn’t want to believe it was the henna since everyone always says how beneficial it is. I was gonna revert to cutting it all off and starting again. I did cut back on shampooing because I used to do every week and I’ve decided now to do once a month. I also added a mix of aloe Vera and water to a spray bottle and follow up with a moisturizer and oil. Thank you for your tips and advice.

    I'm so happy that I found your video. I have been struggling to recover from a henna application. My two strand twist are so thin and my hair is frizzy and cob-webby. I have tried so much and that includes all of the no-no oils. I have been tempted to do another big chop. I used to use Lush's Henna blocks and my hair loved it. Full, thick and long it was so healthy. After a very long break of 3 years I started using the Lush product again and my hair was dry and crunchy. I then tried the Henna Sooq and now I have straw. I am giving myself a break from the henna. Thanks for the information and I'm going to try a simpler routine for recovery.

    Very scary for me to read all these comments. I am doing my research & there is know cut & dry way to use this henna. To the lay person like myself trying to figure this all out is quite an undertaking. You really have to know what your doing. After 40 years of relaxers & 10 months of being fully natural my hair is finally starting to grow & learning .my hair. I have the nupur 💯 henna & 9 herbs & I'm scared to use it. The package says use warm water & oil. Why are people using so many other mixtures? Some using coconut milk, cream, acv, lemon juice. Who knows what everybody is doing & how often to cause such dryness. I see why there are problems. If used improperly it will cause damage. Glad I'm doing my research...thank you all for sharing!!!!

    • @cfoster6804
      @cfoster6804 3 роки тому +3

      Yes just keep it simple. People are doing WAY too much then blame it on the henna. It's usually 3 things.
      1)They used bad quality henna
      2)Mixing in things that make the dryness worse. You have to remember that whatever else you mix in is going to sit on your hair for 3-4 hours as well.
      3)Doing treatments way too often
      I only do henna, bit of aloe vera powder, and warm water.

    I understand the coconut makes it seemingly worse. I understand why you insist upon olive and avocado.
    What would you feel about pumpkin seed or hemp seed or flax seed oils as far as repairing the protein moisture imbalance? Organic and cold pressed of course.
    The reason I ask is because I want to leave trace amounts of this oil in my hair daily and the smell of the avocado and oil are strong and the seed oils a little less fragrant

    Any update on the de transitioning from Henna? I’m on the SAME BOAT! Henna not only made my hair stiff and dry but it also pressed out my curls! And this is what they don’t tell you…. henna also minimized my volume!!!!!!!!! SO UPSET! I had natural vivacious volume that has significantly minimized and it’s like I have someone else’s hair that is very very fine with barely any volume. :0/. I’ve already checked out the before and after of my curly hair journey and I couldn’t be more upset. So I’ve opted out of experimenting products like these all together. The Ayurvedic route isn’t for everyone. They say do Amla treatments to get the curls back… but I’m just like… I don’t feel like experimenting anymore with herbs. Anyone have any other tips to get henna out completely?????? I want my volume and curls back. Hope your journey is better now. ❤

    I had hydro fatigue and I started using henna. But I advice people to use very little of it at once and leave on for 5 hours. This is my mix : 1 tbsp henna+ 2 tbsp Coco powder+ 2 tbsp coconut milk + 1 tsp instant coffee + 2 tbsp kefir + 1tbsp honey.
    Just avoid using henna alone with water. And plenty of it. If you already integrate it, the concentration of it in the mask should be low.

    Great video! Thank you so much!! I have not seen any videos either that talks about how to treat your henna-damaged hair. I've been using henna for years now and my hair has been getting worse and worse, more dry, unable to maintain moisture despite trying everything, brittle, very thin at the ends, but yet is still grew! I was so confused. The only thing that I could think of that was possibly causing these issues was henna. I only used henna twice a year in order to dye my hair black. That might explain why some of my broken hair in different areas grew! Also, I did not put henna on my hair all over my head. That explains why my hair stayed long and thick in some areas. Thank you so much for your tips to help bring our hair back to normal!!!

      Make sure you're using the right henna and next time try a little first like a tablespoon of it added to your deep conditioner. Some people hair needs to get use to henna so you have to start off slow and then work your way up to maybe a full mask. I personally only add to my Ayurvedic oil mixture and to my deep conditioner. I don't like it for a mask.

    The biggest mistake I see newbies make to using henna is overuse and not properly adding moisture back in.
    1. This is a permanent dye. It is not like box dye which bleeds color every time you wash. Instead it chemically bonds to the keratin within the hair strand and stays put. Once I dyed all of my hair the first time any application was *only to my roots!*
    2. Two weeks after applying and allowing oxidation I then applied a deep leave in conditioner for 1 hour then rinsed.
    3. Dryness and breaking can occur if you use henna too often. I usually wait two months before retouching my roots.
    4. Do not wash your hair as often, let your natural oils from the scalp replenish that hair! Brushing your hair multiple times a day helps pull those natural body oils down the hair shaft from your scalp.
    Hope these little tips can help your viewers. I have been using henna for 7 years and have learned henna is a lot like learning how to bake. It takes time to learn how the feel of the dough changes during glutton process, kneading, proofing and baking. It takes time to work out the kinks.
    Henna is great as a permanent dye but I do not suggest it for people who like to go light with bleach in the summer then go darker in the winter. It doesn't lift easily from the hair. Instead I recommend it to people if they want a natural red hair look that remains consistent between applications.
