This winter I've set a new personal 'coolest record', I spent a couple of days diving in 9'C water.
Freezing? Well, you dont feel it. You dont feel anything. Nothing. You cant feel anything. - Спорт
Love your videos keep them coming would love to see you shoot some different species and shallow water dives and maybe talk about what you do with your catches like how you prepare them and eat them

I can't stand to see a spearo waving a live fish at the end of a spear, when he obviously had plenty of time to bleed it before triumphantly showing it to the camera.

'Plenty of time' + 'bleed the fish'... Den, I think you are not really getting the point of the 30m+ hunts, furthermore, whats the point of bleeding the fish when it gets braindead? Aaaand just a little tip: the 'triumphantly waving a live fish' was a movement to make sure the shaft goes all the way thru and the barb is actually open on the other side :)

Yeah places like Key West are major hot spots, I hear you have to boat out a few miles to find anything, but out there it's full of sharks ready to snatch your catch.
Look up the springs in Wewika Park if you haven't heard of them before

any good techniques to hold breath for a long time? after like 15 seconds i feel like I'm about to have a heart attack lol. idk why that is. without water I've held my breath over a minute. in water not even half that probably
Practice, Co2 tables and O2 tables. Build up, but don't overwork your lungs, just like muscles you can over do it. If your submerged time is so low it's because you are not completely relaxed. Practice in water WITH A BUDDY!!!! I can only do about 2 minutes spearfishing but completely relaxed I am on 5 minutes. It's because I swim large distances and my heart rate is up.
+Erik M so your heart rate is suppose to be up?
Erik and Trualbanian, most often the reason for short dive times is the lack of experience. Having a 4/5/6 minute static doesn't translate into 2-3-4 minute dives :)
Once you train (real underwater experience, overall fitness, CO2 tables are good, O2 tables are meeeeh) your CO2 tolerance increases and you no longer feel like you are 'out of breath' in such short time.
HR wise, the lower the heart rate - the better it is...
Trualbanian 1 No heart rate down, less energy expended.

If only I could dive to half the depth you could dive I would be a happy man. No matter how hard I train I'm not able to dive any deeper or longer

Does cold weather shorten your dive time because you're using more oxygen to stay warm?
Yes it does, however I think the effect would be negligible if compared to an overall additional stress of simply being in the cold water (the 'Holy shit, its freezing. I am not cold, but its so freaking exciting' factor).
Its rarely as straightforward as 'less O2 expenditure = longer stay"... But the stress (or the absence of it), on the other side, is the major factor... In the 'stresses' group we can always put the temperature, your conditions, sea conditions, depth, excitement level, bla bla bla.
I understand. I ski and the adrenaline and rush you feel really gets you breathing hard more than just working out.
