In this story, you can briefly see two notices posted on the glass of Food Front. Reading those two notices, there was mention about theft and restructuring the store to deal with it. The other problem was the union and how they were not taking the problems seriously. They also wanted layoffs rather than cutting hours.
It didnt help that the unionized employees refused to work with the management to reduce costs. Now they are all out of a job. They were greedy and now they have nothing.
@@tomstiel7576 I'm paraphrasing the board, they tried to negotiate with the union. The union refused any concessions which increased operating costs. So that was one of the nails in the coffin of the store.
That's Portlanders! They get mad at the business for closing and not at the policies that caused the closure. I'm sure there are additional factors that influenced their decision but this is now a trend in Portland.
It's what the people of Portland want. They love crime and living in a war zone. They don't mind not having access to modern goods and healthy foods. I applaud them for their dedication to the cause and their support of criminal activity. Yay! They have the city that they desire!
Draconian COVID policies and out of control crime that goes unpunished are what the community voted for, so the community has no one to blame but themselves for the closure of this store.
Who says the homeless have no where to live? All of the businesses that shut down due to " financial reasons" can now be used to house the homeless. They'll soon be enough empty businesses to give all there own place.
When they said it had been in the community for 50 years, I was surprised to find it out had been started as recently as 1972. When I hear that a business is 50 year old, I expect it to have been around since the 1940s, or maybe even the '30s.
Why would any store want to operate where people can steal without consequence? I only feel sorry for the minority of people that didn’t vote for these policies and have to suffer the consequences. Their only recourse is to get out but that isn’t always easy!
The problem is the people do not see why they closed its like people stealing is ok in Portland if they do not put people in jail more places will close

@@les0101s It's scary when you go to cities not controlled by Demorats! Clean parks and streets. Businesses everywhere. Zero tent cities and piles of trash. You don't have to look for an employee for a key to open up a case so you can buy toothpaste... Super scary stuff, let me tell ya.
These people who are so upset have voted for the policies that have driven good workers away and caused businesses that were profitable to become bankrupt. And not a one of them has a clue as to the destruction of THEIR decisions. It's really ironic and sad.
Ahh Portland, you never fail to fail.
Maybe it's time to seize the means of production, Im sure that'll fix it all.
Exactly, this is all caused by capitalism’s greed, hehe
Great comment. That is always the progression as socialism begins gently with compassionate democratic socialism then eventually spirals downward to socialist totalitarian economics. No exceptions.
A famine, in the 1930s in Ukraine, part of USSR, succeeded in reducing the existence of millions of people. Let's do it again, but with more fervor and add a little topical spice, like trannies. That will do it.
What does Portland produce besides a bunch of zombies and filthy activists?
The customers should be angry with the so-called city "leaders"
Don't Cry Now! You got what U all voted for!
I bet it can still get worse
But keep voting in the very ones who made this all happen...
This is the end phenomenon of abdicating physical responsibility of your personal and property security.
When you criminalize self defense and defense of property it becomes impossible to operate a business.
They should turn all of these shuttered businesses into new safe spaces for Antifa. That'll create a utopia for sure 😂
It really amazed me As someone born and raised in the state born in 1969 , portland started Is going down hill in the mid eighties . And that would be right around the time that democrats took over . But Hey I was taught you know if you try something a few times and it don't work you might try something different But in the part of Oregon island we don't have that homeless problem So enjoy Portland Eugene Salem you voted all this in
Wasn't it Einstein said "If you try the same thing over and over again and it doesn't work....."?
They also witnessed the growth of the black population
@@surreyscouse2873 It's called insanity!! Enjoy the utopia!!
@@hulahula6182 While that is true about population shifts, the high crime and general attitudes that allowed the emergence of lawlessness now plaguing the state is due to liberal whites and rampant fraud at the state level, not the presence of blacks and Mexicans in Oregon's cities. I saw this myself as a concerned citizen who fled Oregon in the 80s because it was turning too lib. I've watched it degenerate for 40+ years.
The entire part of OR along i-5 is just horrible.
They were greedy and now they have nothing.
that's really a stretch,,,but have it your way
@@tomstiel7576 I'm paraphrasing the board, they tried to negotiate with the union. The union refused any concessions which increased operating costs. So that was one of the nails in the coffin of the store.

Thank your local government for this travesty and know they have caused all of this and bear the total responsibility for the ruination of Portland.
That's Portlanders! They get mad at the business for closing and not at the policies that caused the closure. I'm sure there are additional factors that influenced their decision but this is now a trend in Portland.
This is a great business opportunity for them
It's what the people of Portland want. They love crime and living in a war zone. They don't mind not having access to modern goods and healthy foods. I applaud them for their dedication to the cause and their support of criminal activity. Yay! They have the city that they desire!
As it crumbles around them, they refuse to see.
They are all deluded batty old women. Probably have a house full of cats that smells like sh*t.
That's happening in Victorville California...which suggests it is or will sweep these progressive western states.
Where they can shoot up in safety and privacy.
Oh.. they wont allow drug use in the shelter ??
@@francismarion6400 And starve to death.
And go back in 6 months and see what they look like!! Enough said!!
One closed Walmart can provide dormitory housing for every homeless in Portland, Seattle, and other blue cities.
When they said it had been in the community for 50 years, I was surprised to find it out had been started as recently as 1972. When I hear that a business is 50 year old, I expect it to have been around since the 1940s, or maybe even the '30s.
It's not 1983 or 1993, any longer.
We both are getting old. Same here
Portland. Sooo Progressive.
"progressive"
I loved their last attempt at tourism, come to Portland where were quirky....
They called it quirky, should of been mentally unstable and deranged..
Why would any store want to operate where people can steal without consequence? I only feel sorry for the minority of people that didn’t vote for these policies and have to suffer the consequences. Their only recourse is to get out but that isn’t always easy!
No one can say they are surprised at this point.
I'm surprised they still have their fillings.
The problem is the people do not see why they closed its like people stealing is ok in Portland if they do not put people in jail more places will close
They can't stop lying about the real reasons. It's actually offensive.
"As ye sow, so shall ye reap."
Or in Antifa's case, just reap the ashes from what they've burned down.
Grief, anger, sadness!!!!! You all voted for this madness and allowed for the complete destruction of the community. I cannot for the life of me understand how sane people have allowed this to happen, rampant theft, violent crime, drugs at beyond crisis leve and at the same time a cost of living crisis and yet they still seem stunned and cannot seem to understand why!
The mistake you’re making is assuming that they’re sane people.

Brick and mortar stores make no sense when the streets are dominated by criminals, when taxes to pay for damage caused by those criminals go up, and when online competitors push prices down. It's disturbing to see this happen to food distributors.
The city is failing because of choices of voters. This is tragic but nothing ever seems to be bad enough to get them to stop voting against their interests. And I’m not talking republican, just common sense and decency.
I cannot feel sorry for these people, not even the honest and hardworking Portlanders. The city has been going into the gutter for many years. You should have planned your exodus accordingly. Get out ASAP, the few sane Portland citizens left!
I don’t trust their elections at all but at the same time, Portland is absolutely loaded with entitled, rude Ieftoids who believe in these nutty causes so I have no sympathy either.
These are the SAME people that say, "Keep Portland Weird" and "Defund the Police" and Vote BLUE...You GOT what You WANTED...
Your head would spin if you knew how much money the Board of Directors, Management, etc of these not for profits pay themselves in salary each year.
That's true evey where. In some cities I 've hear of the director making a half million a year. I'd be ashamed to take pay like that considering I'm suppose to be helping the poor.
They don't call it the Homeless Industrial Complex for nothing.
From my experience 80-90% of "community" projects are nothing more than political money laundering.
Politician funnels tax money to supporters, supporters funnel votes and campaign donations to the politician. Rinse/repeat.
"Defund the police" wasn't about changing police culture, it was about siphoning public funds into corrupt "community" projects.

Actually high management salaries don't bother me - IF they increase profitability.
Funny how we complain about high salaries for business talent - yet professional baseball, football and basketball players get paid huge amounts. But, at least they earn it, which is more than can be said for all Hollywood actors who can't act.
"Citing financial issues." You mean getting robbed all the time! When will the public stand up. If you see a robbery do something! Don't attack an armed individual but call police, tackle an unarmed robber, gather good people around you and stop the crime!

Portland is doing great! Everyday they get closer to their goal of having no profitable businesses left there. People are only surprised and saddened because the store took this long to close. They hate any business, and now they’ve happy!
This is what happens when over taxed ,corrupt politicians, slack law by politicians from shoplifting. You can't run a business when most of your product is stolen ,local government has a revolving door policy on crime and insurance companies won't insure your business because of theft.
Might as well just close all the stores in thief neighborhoods.
