It mentions in the movie that the sleazy manager was state appointed. Hence when Norman confronts and fires him for turning Bates Motel into a drug den, he says the state had no control at that point over him or his hotel since his release. Which effectively gives him the right to fire him then without the state preventing him from doing so.

This was the first horror movie that I saw as a kid. Mom recorded off HBO at the fire station where my dad worked at on the brand new VCR. The things we did for movies watching back in the early 1980s.

My only complaint with this movie is the fact that we are lead to believe that little old lady was capable of killing three people and disposing two of them in the swamp. There’s no way she could drag Toomey’s body & put him in the trunk & drag that boy’s body from the cellar and into the swamp in broad daylight. Fact is, the killer is actually portrayed by a stunt coordinator, Kurt Paul. That would clearly explain the height difference between Ms Spool & the tall killer in the cellar.

It made you feel compassion for Norman. Music is very effective, it has many tense moments. You see more of the house and it's unique design and set pieces. I am torn on the twist at the end. Having Spool as his biological mother (then simply reversing it in part 3) just didn't come across as credible, despite it being a striking scene. It probably would have been better to just have Lila as the killer.

And on set one day he heard her ask "Why is Tony getting all the attention?" Norman was never "cured".
You can write off Normans flashback at mother's door because Dr Raymond said memories were likely to recurr in the house. Plus, it's a flashback if reality, mother is dead.
But Norman finds the tin with the poison tea very early in the film. He doesn't throw it out out and offers it to both Mary and Dr Raymond. Ms Spool was the first to say yes.

The scene where he asked that old woman if she was sure she didn't want a sandwich
Then without hesitation picked up the shovel and whacked her in the head
    Cold blooded

Well what I always found very implausible about the sequel, is the fact that all the townspeople (excluding Lia and Toomey) are all perfectly ok with a sinister multiple murderer living nearby and even offer him a job in a cafe! Theres no way that local law enforcement would be friendly and helpful and supportive of a mass killer living in their town! Also where is Norman's lawyer while Norman is moving back to his house and requiring supervision, and all this bad stuff continues to go on on the property? In reality Norman would be run out of town in two seconds! Theres no way any motel board would allow Norman to open a motel again!!! None of that makes sense.

Prior to watching this video, I had only seen the original Psycho & the Bates Motel tv series. I decided to watch Psycho 2 before watching this review, & I’m so glad I did. I really enjoyed it. Anthony Perkins was great. Not a perfect movie but very enjoyable. I noticed the same logic issues but they didn’t ruin the movie. I guess I’m going to have to watch the rest of the series if you are reviewing them Cody. 😉

That shovel kill will never not be funny. I laugh my ass off every time I see it. Objectively I think it hurts the film, because that was just straight up fucking comedy even if it was unintentional. But either way, I'm glad they went there!

How could someone play a role so well, as Perkins as Norman in the first 3 Psycho films. 4 too.

A fantastic sequel and good stand-alone thriller by the great Australian director Richard Franklin, who was a good friend of Hitchcock and drew lots of inspiration from him in his films

@Cody I appreciate this, i have forever felt this is one of the top 5 if not top 10 most underrated horror films and sequels in any genre of all time. I say that as your looking at this as a sequel to one of the 5 greatest Directors of all time A. Hitchcock and done almost 20 years later..... was done well.... very well. An you already went with the unsung hero as well. A Perkins kills it and who I DO NOT agree many argue he is even better in this then he was in the original. A really good plot and a movie I keep coming back to again an again an again to show off to friends an family who never even knew this film existed let alone was so very well made. Glad you had fun with this series so far :) makes me feel less bad for the pain you have watching the crap to come with this series.

I just revisited this last night. Such a damn good sequel, which I definitely feel is better than the original. I love it. Yes, it's strange that they would allow him to move back into the house where all the stuff went down, but what other choice does he have. He's been locked away for decades. He probably can't afford another place; and no one else is gonna offer him lodging, given his history of violence.
