If I have one that isn't too bad i just wipe it down with soap and water and air too. If i have a nasty one or more (sometimes 4 or 5) I use the pressure washer.
I picked up a Brigg lawnmower put out for the garbage. 1 tire was missing and the other 3 were wobbly. I replaced them.I re-ringed it. The oil NEVER was changed because he didn't have that tool. The engine brake cable was gone. I replaced it. The blade was bent under at 1 side. It runs GREAT!! It's a 4 H.P. It has 90 lbs. compression. The throttle springs were gone, I replaced them. It wouldn't fast idle. Now it runs GREAT!! If the diaphragm leaks, it can flood and cause the engine to bind. I have 2 other mowers from garbage. When you know about lawn mowers, you can fix them!
I snagged a nice Craftsman off a tree lawn last Fall, had a Hinda GCV160 engine. I think the people were moving or went electric. Took it home and had it running in 15 minutes. Cleaned it up and gave it a full service. Self propel is a bit weak but the engine runs great. ALWAYS starts on the first pull.
3 yrs living in this house l have picked 3 bicycles, 3walk behind mowers, 1 ryobi leaf blower 1 husqvarna riding mower, which l sold for money needed for taxes, 1 weedeater, and 1 pioneer equalizer and 1 sony subwoofer. I love fixing and giving away ,or selling for cheap, good stuff.
There is a apparatus out there that you can get which is specifically for fixing bent crank shafts on these little vertical shaft engines. I use a similar method that involves a long pipe and securing the engine. No shock to the crank with a sledge, and they're perfectly fine after so long as you replace the crank seal and the lower case isn't cracked anywhere. In fact, I found a Husqvarna 4 wheel drive on Craigslist for $40 that was used once then the guy hit something and bent the crank. Straitened it out and new owner is my neighbor and has been using it for three years with no adverse effects from the bent crank. TarylFixesAll has one of those crank straitening machines he shows in one of his videos. Pretty slick! Great little series on the 4 trash picked mowers my good Friend! Cheers!! Sean~
This was fun to watch. I’ve been watching another UA-camr that does small engine repairs. Part of his process is to smell the gasoline that has been left in the tank😬. I’m glad to see it doesn’t take all that to check out a small engine.
Well, one out of four is better than nothing. Like they say, you win some, you lose some, but you always dress for the ball game. Have a good weekend, Great video, thanks Bruce.
It was like betting at the horse race track ..I kept yelling...Come On No.2 !!! I like the high wheel frame on no.4 ...I'm glad when you showed that clogged air filter I wasn't eating shredded wheat cereal like the last time you showed a plugged filter
I've been watching your videos mostly in order. (Thanks for all your good work!) I'm very happy to see you move away from the stick and into a safe support.
My father got a nice self-propelled mower with a bent crankshaft from the trash, straightened it with many careful blows from a mini-sledge (measuring the results of each hit very carefully). It lasted another 45 years. But i agree, you couldnt stand behind that job because you just dont know if it will.
I have the same little, Murray which my neighbor gave me years ago. The wheel brackets have pulled through the deck and repaired multiple times, tires have fallen off and been replaced. I have switched over to the Yard Machines unit the gave me but now that one dropped a wheel bracket and the wheel was dragging across the lawn the other day... nothing that a few zip ties couldn't repair.
Just got a coleman 4000 watt generator with the 8hp tucum. It was in a barn and covered with chicken poop BAD! I pressure washed it and cleaned the carb/fresh gas and she fired right up second pull. The governor is sticking on high rev. never messed with one so now I am digging thru your vids to see how you fixed it. My wife won't let me use her turkey baster. ;-)
I recently found at the city recycling center a 2015 Poulan Pro 22" self propelled lawn mower. I got it home and it started right up and runs great. I don't know why it was thrown away.
There is a certain satisfaction, when one finds some others discarded flotsam and jetsam of life, fixable. It is possibly the never say die spirit of yesteryear like those who went through the great depression. Their is something honorable in returning a piece of machinery to life, especially if you can pass it on to someone less fortunate than yourself. My biggest problem is knowing when to stop. Throwing money at little motors that have given up the will to live is a waste of time. These days I just ask myself "what would Bruce do". ;-) Having said that with the encouragement of your videos I now have a very good generator and small pump that cost me nothing. As an old New York friend [I'll let you imagine the heavy accent] who moved to Australia once said to me "ya can't beat free!".
Thanks Mr. Prickle (I know that isn't your name?). We do it for the satisfaction. We don't need to do it or sometimes even want to do it, but sometimes I lay there at night and think "I can try this or that in the morning"
I just knew that little briggs would run. I've had the same mower as that one for 19 years. Bought it from Walmart in 1999 for $100.00 and the only things I've had to replace on it in 19 years are the primer bulb and the diaphragm gasket. Still starts on the first pull and I still use it every year even though the deck is about rusted through. The kill switch handle came off years ago so I just kill it the old fashioned way with a screwdriver grounding out the spark plug. Wait, I told a lie. I have also replaced the wheels 3 times after them falling apart on me. The third time I replaced them with metal wheels with bearings so I'm betting those will be the last replacement wheels I put on it, lol.
Hi Bruce, nice video. Too bad only one good one out of the lot. Not sure what a new transmission costs for the old Honda lawn mower, probably a lot being it's a Honda. I guess that 3rd one in the video had a bent crank shaft?
Yes, you are correct it was the 4th one. And some people don't maintain their mowers. The filter in that one lawn mower was really dirty. One of my neighbors never changes the oil, spark plug, or air filter on hi mower. I told him that's a shame because he is shortening the life of it considerably.
I know. Once a year for general maintenance at the same time for all the small motor stuff (winter or summer) only takes a couple of hours. I do all of mine in October.
I got me a trash mower and all I did to get it running was clean the holes in the small bolt on the bottom of the float bowl, runs smooth and mows good, but spark looks a bit weak and compression feels low, still im satisfied
cool video, interesting to see how others start on diagnosis of a broken mower. i am starting to beef my channel up a bit and was thinking about doing some of these videos as well, ive got a bunch of builders to do yet if the customer repairs would slow a bit. keep up the good work sir, i enjoy your videos
Put the word out. Can you go to a local landfill???? If you are in the States put an add on Craig's List or in Canada it is Called Kijiji yes Kijiji it is another site.
This was purchased in Canada quite a few years ago. There is good info in this video for even a Harbor Freight purchase ua-cam.com/video/yv7FtFWRHaU/v-deo.html
Bruce on that Craftsman Platinum. Camshaft position isn't going to change the magnet position to where the piston is at TDC. Only way that can happen without a sheered flywheel key is either the crank is twisted which.. I don't see a crank surviving 180 degree worth of twist and stay intact OR that's the wrong flywheel for that engine. :)
You are right Thanks I will correct it. I must have gone for TDC incorrectly as in the next video (Friday) the magnets are at TDC Thanks a lot. Thanks for the polite note.
Hey Mon Ami I have put Honda engines on Murray, Mtd Etc. Many times. I wish you would have showed the flywheel key aligned with the slot on the crankshaft. Was that mower for someone else ??
I was rushed. 4 mowers in one video. That old Honda had a multi layered flange. It took me 20 minutes just to get the motor off the old frame. It wouldn't fit anything I have seen.
It seems like it has good compression. But you might pull the head to see if the exhaust valve is stuck open and blowing back thru the carb. Just a thought. A stuck valve is easily fixed with some PB Blaster. 5 bux for new head gasket. ~!~!
I must have lots of good luck. So far when trash picking, I've been able to get all small engine equipment to run except for 1 weed eater. Around here alot of people don't know how to change air filters.
Very interesting. Question: what are you using as 'go juice' dispensing unit? It seems to be a regular oiler but I tried this with such oiler and it do not hold gas within its pump. Thanks
Do you have a video for replacing an ignition module on a home lite leaf blower. I have the Homelite 26B and can't find anything. It's an $80 blower and hardly used, would be nice to get it working.
very interesting. I would be gutted if I got rid of my mower just for water in the fuel.. Whats not worth fixing is spare parts all the same eh. Cheers mate missed this one some how.
The flywheel key keeps the flywheel at a specific position so the spark generated by the coil is at the right time. If you hit something hard the key shears off and the spark is at the wrong time in the cycle. I hope I helped???
If you’re thinking the valve are out of timing it wouldn’t have anything to do with the spark plug or flywheel. The cam shaft controls the valves no matter if the spark is out of timing or not. Probably one of the cheep plastic gears cam that they use now they like to break!
The last lawnmower was a Stanley 6.0! Should there be any concern as to when you pulled the starter rope the lawnmower starts to shake! Does that mean there could be a unbalanced blade? Or is it because the wheels were loose or is it just an old lawnmower!
@@BrucesShop OK the second lawnmower that had the exhaust coming out of the carburetor! I have the same lawnmower it was a scrap find! I'm thinking it could be the flywheel key because when I pulled the starter rope it almost tore my hand off!!! Plus smoke came out of the muffler instead of the carburetor! Should I still be worried that something is wrong or is it just the flywheel key!! Plus the I don't know how to take apart the trans axle because its so Rusty! I really can't find and videos on here that has a total disassembly of the drive system!😩😩😩 Frustrating indeed!
Hey Bruce, I realize what I'm about to say is immaterial, but at the end of the video either you or somebody else wrote: "only one mower was slavaged!!!!" I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I saw that!!!!
Sir...when you have mowers like these that were not salvageable, do you dismantle and save the parts for use later and trash what you do not use? Thank you in advance. Enjoy your videos!!
i had a mower just like that 5 years ago. i mowed the front lawn, then pushed the mower under the driveway by the door. went inside for 5 minutes, backyard for 5 minutes, went back, and the mower was gone. stolen. 1 of 5 mowers stolen in the past 10 years.
Every area is different. My area now has controlled land fill sites so you have to have access to the guy who works there. I now use "Take it to the curb" weekends to find the non runners. Local on line buy and sell works good too.
Harbor Freight, I picked up the 1000 pounder for $150.00 with coupon. I added the wood top deck / stop just like Bruce has...I love it and use it for any lifting as a portable bench
Hey Bruce, I find mowers all the time. Question though, is it worth replacing the wheels, when the bushings are worn? If so, where do you recommend I get them? Thanks!! -Andrew
Thanks Bruce! I've just started working on mowers for the past year or so. And only really work on them during the summer. I'll buy the replacements, until my stockpile of "spare parts" builds up.
I usually take a beer can or aluminum and about 1/2 way down the can I cut it into.. I measure inside the the wheel hub from side to side. Then I cut myself a strip around the can. You can put a little grease on the axle and aluminum strip. Put or wind the strip on to the axle. You MAY need to cut off just a little of the strip to make it fit inside the hub. This works fine for me and is a cheap fix if you can't find the bushings. Mine usually mine last a couple of years and it doesn't wear the axle out..
Could it be the wrong flywheel for that engine? (The first one). I mean... Who knows what has been done to that engine. A cam out of timing is probably the culprit, but the wrong flywheel is a possibility. I look forward to the teardown of that engine if you do it (please do!)
Wow. They must have hit something really hard and heavy or a sidewalk, cement whatever to do that kind of damage. I have never seen a broken key in the blade, but the blade adaptors all stripped I have. It must have put up a fight, that engine is way way off timing (If it is original flywheel) the camshaft teeth must be quite damaged too. So must the crank ones. You are lucky it didn't shoot flames through the intake, I have seen it before, on a car engine that was no assembled quite right, and camshaft was off. Scary stuff is like a huge lighter in you face!
Too bad about that craftsman, thought sure you would find a sheared key....Does this engine have plastic cam gears? I used to attack bent cranks with a heavy lead hammer, usually straightened em out good enough to use. I remember those Honda mowers when they were first introduced to the US back in the late 70s, wasn't real impressed. Nothing like a nice simple push mower with a briggs! Hope you attack the Craftsman, would really like to see what goes in inside....
supper easy fix would of took me 15 min with the tool they make for bent shafts done it 100s of times not one costomer hads returned there mower saying it wasnt right most are still regulars today and alots still got the mower i fixed crank on somes been over 7 years ago never used the hammer way it never be right
Just like you said there's a reason the mowers ended up in the trash. I don't have a lot of spare used parts so new parts usually put the cost of a used mower over the top. Trash mowers don't go to the curb much anymore due to town environmental rules. Folks want to sell old non running mowers for far more than there worth.
I know. The coils blade adaptor etc, and believe it or not the shear keys are valuable to me as it isn't the cost it is just getting them in a good amount of time. Nice to hear from you George.
Oh it runs. It is so noisy I have to stop filming most of the time. It is in this video but at around 2 minutes ua-cam.com/video/1WSnuR_58v4/v-deo.html
I seen people pulling their arm off trying to start a mower after hitting the blade and finally its seen at the curb for scrap. LOL The city won't take a mower as garbage , the scrap guys pick them up fast. A lot have gone to cordless electric out here and few gas motors left at the curb these days.
Bruce Pender I was wondering the same thing, but figured it out. I also add a bit of oil to the gas on any mower sitting a long time. It lubricates the cylinder that has been sitting for a long time
Couldn't you just disconnect the transmission on that Honda and use it as a push mower? I know you can do that on some mowers. But then who would buy it right.
The Honda hrr21 probably does not have a bad tranny. Probably the clutch cable is out of adjustment. Honda self propelled lawnmowers are common to have problems when pulled to the rear if the cable is out of adjustment. You can change the oil in the transmission by popping off its top cover and refilling it, completely, with 10W-30 synthetic motor oil. I have found the Honda lawnmower oil works best. I do not like the design of the drive system on Honda lawnmowers. Any drive system that is completely under the deck is prone to drive problems.
Its pretty bad around here also most of the mowers are put out to the curb in pieces and not worth picking any more. But hey you have 1 runner and 3 parts donation machines.
People are almost giving away $400 lawn mowers this year. I have been picking up cheaper than dirt priced mowers this year, but then selling them for asking price. most of them dont run so that tells me people are just dumping their crap mowers and buying new ones rather than fixing them.
Good to here from you Bob. So much junk out there eh. I needed a cam gear for that first one and 3 days before cleaned up the yard and got rid of a few quantums that would have be able to donate. I will do that though. Videos to come. How are you doing. I have been thinking of you as i just has neck surgery and am out of commission. (My videos are covered with scheduling).
sometimes you get lucky, and others not so much.i had a Toro personal pace i got free and fought me every step of the way. if time was money,i lost even though i sold it for $100.00
I quite often put WAY too much time into things but in my case I am retired so my entire income is not dependant on it. I usually take on stuff the shops wouldn't touch.
I hate when people throw out busted stuff! It's so annoying. Why can't everyone put good stuff out to the curb and stop waisting our time? I think it's rude and selfish! lol! Now you gotta store it, strip it, or get rid of it...or worse yet, fix it!!! I would take it back and complain. ;)
Yea I guess, but that's still almost like work. Yuck who wants that? lol! Guess I'm spoiled. I grew up in an area where rich people threw stuff like that out cause they were lazy and could just pay somebody to mow their lawn for them. It's amazing what they would give me or put at the curb. Stuff that needed gas and an oil change and it was good to go. I miss those days lol.
Believe me you don't want to watch 2 hours of a wrench going round and round instead of 15 minutes. . I would loose all my subscribers. I only fast forward when it gets repetitive. Thanks for the comment. I have had people thank me for doing it. You should make a few videos first It is a real eye opener.
trying to make money fixing trash mowers is impossible, your better off working a minimum wage job like McDonald's. the amount of time and with cost of parts it's slim profits.
Good results 👌 You show us, that there is hope even if a lawn mower doesn’t work.
I like how you clean them before working on them , I've seen lots of videos from others that don't ,it drives me crazy lol. Awesome videos !
If I have one that isn't too bad i just wipe it down with soap and water and air too. If i have a nasty one or more (sometimes 4 or 5) I use the pressure washer.
Enjoyed your vid Bruce, always learn something and entertaining. Bob

THANKS FOR THE SHOUT OUT BUDDY😃 Yeah it's always a gamble on trash mowers but if nothing else you get more parts
Yes and i was getting low on a few. Even old plugs can come in handy for testing.
That was a fun video!! I like the red one!! Didn't have any plastic crap on it, possibly 80's early 90's eh!!☺
Yes and it lived not like the others.
i love those old 3.5 briggs Classic engines with the Pulsa carbs so easy to work on and fix.
I agree. They are predictable when not running.
Hi Mr Pender Nice mowers i like the second mower that s my favorite briggs 3.5 hp :-)
nice thanks for the comment.
Just got a coleman 4000 watt generator with the 8hp tucum. It was in a barn and covered with chicken poop BAD! I pressure washed it and cleaned the carb/fresh gas and she fired right up second pull. You need one of those turkey basters. hahaha
I recently found at the city recycling center a 2015 Poulan Pro 22" self propelled lawn mower. I got it home and it started right up and runs great. I don't know why it was thrown away.
Maybe just bumping it cause a clog to be dislodged.
Bruce Pender Maybe, but I just thought it was amazing what someone considered trash and just threw it away it's not even 2 1/2 years old.
Ranger1 lucky duck :)
That Sucks when you get a bent crank, have you thought of putting that Honda engine on the craftsman deck ?
This one is so old the bolt pattern was different. The output shaft is also an issue but i did check it out.

It continues. Vids to come.
A jack stand works well. I tilt the mower back and place the handle under my chain link fence for working under the beast.
Thanks for subscribimg
I got me a trash mower and all I did to get it running was clean the holes in the small bolt on the bottom of the float bowl, runs smooth and mows good, but spark looks a bit weak and compression feels low, still im satisfied

Give it a try. Sound is just as important as video. I see you have uploaded a bit. Keep it up.
Hey Bruce why don't you ever use an impact driver to remove the housing screws?
I don't know. I guess i like the feel of the ratchet. They do twist of easily.
@@BrucesShop it's alot quicker but ofcourse if it's smaller screws you might strip the screw but to each their own.
Right. It changes each time with me.

Bruce Pender that's very interesting. I was wondering that too. 🤔 are you going to show any more diag on the craftsman platinum mower?
Yes I am checking the cam gear next.
Bruce Pender great I look forward to it.
Cragified only other thing is either a stuck exhaust valve or bent exhaust valve.

Yes the flywheel key was OK. The plastic cam gear slipped on the shaft. Video on Friday. Thanks Boo.
Glad you got it Mon Ami ~!~!
I think the first mower the intake valve seat let loose and is holding the valve open...common on those engines
No the plastic cam gear sliped inside the motor. Here is the video of the tear down

What does the position of the fly wheel make a difference to the opening of the valves. That all depends on the camshaft and cam timing.
An unbalanced blade would do that. Be carefull but have a look. I put the loose blade on a nail to see if it drops to one side. The can also be bent.
Yes It is most lilley the flywheel key. Sorry i can help you with the transaxle I repalce them as do most people.
Hey Bruce, I realize what I'm about to say is immaterial, but at the end of the video either you or somebody else wrote: "only one mower was slavaged!!!!" I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I saw that!!!!
I think I meant only one machine was saved LOL
Sir...when you have mowers like these that were not salvageable, do you dismantle and save the parts for use later and trash what you do not use? Thank you in advance. Enjoy your videos!!
Yes. Parts are a major deal. Coils, rewinds, carbs, plugs, anything smaller. I am running out of parts now as I don't advertise for junkers anymore.
i had a mower just like that 5 years ago. i mowed the front lawn, then pushed the mower under the driveway by the door. went inside for 5 minutes, backyard for 5 minutes, went back, and the mower was gone. stolen. 1 of 5 mowers stolen in the past 10 years.
Right. A good warning.
Bruce, Love your videos. Can you tell me where you got that mower hoist. I cant find it anywhere and my back is killing me!
her is the video on it
ua-cam.com/video/yv7FtFWRHaU/v-deo.html
Bruce Pender thanks Bruce!
Keth harbor freight sells them too.
here is a video on it all info included.
ua-cam.com/video/yv7FtFWRHaU/v-deo.html
Thanks Bruce!
That last one could have been fixed with a crank shaft straightener. Got on in my shop. I'll have to make a video for you next time I use it
You are right. I have used a 5 pound hammer to do that but i wouldn't sell it after. (liability)
You should make a video on where to find trash mowers :)
Every area is different. My area now has controlled land fill sites so you have to have access to the guy who works there. I now use "Take it to the curb" weekends to find the non runners. Local on line buy and sell works good too.
My local hardware store had me work on a brand new push mower a customer had bought and wouldn't start. The gas tank had 50% water and 50% gas.
I believe that
so what did you do with the Honda? took the engine off and put it on a shelf till you find something to use it on?
Not it is now going to be a beer can.
Bruce how big of the lift do you have. I can only find a 500 and a 1000
A video is the best way to explain it all. In the comments there are links too.
Thanks!! -Andrew
I have many from older mowers that had other issues. If replacing them I would do so if they are broken or impeding the rolling of the mower.
Interesting how the cheap, entry level mowers survived better than the higher end, self propelled machines. I guess simple is best after all.
Yes for reliability for sure. Thanks for the comment
I'd like to find mowers like that the scrappers around here pick up everything metal
Exactly.
The valve gaps need reset on number one . Backfire and recoil
No It the cam gear lobe slipped.
Is it overhead valves?
No these are a flathead.
You injected "2 cycle" fuel into the carb? Is that to lubricate the cylinder at first pull? Do you always prime with 2 cycle?
Yes with the oil in it it helps to lubricate a motor that hasn't run in a while. Thanks for watching.
Where did you get that back breaking savor lift?
A from my wife. He the video.
ua-cam.com/video/yv7FtFWRHaU/v-deo.html
Did u break up the last mower for spare parts?
yes I did
My Ratio on Trash / give me mowers is about 1 in 5....but I do Salvage a lot of parts...Good informative Video...but yours always are.... 😎
Thanks Jerry
+jerry england my dad and I got a mower from a neighbor that he said didn't work put in new gas cleaned the spark plug and it worked fine
Could it be the wrong flywheel for that engine? (The first one). I mean... Who knows what has been done to that engine. A cam out of timing is probably the culprit, but the wrong flywheel is a possibility. I look forward to the teardown of that engine if you do it (please do!)
I do a tear down and you are right. The blade adaptor key was sheared doff too. Vid to come.
What was the second mower?
The second one was the red Briggs.
This Friday Craftsman Returns. STAY TUNED !!!!!
Bruce where do you get all of those trash picked mowers?
I have a friend that is a garage sale guy and he brings them to me plus other folks know I want them too.
That's the one I said the valve seat come out !!!
Hi it could be a valve seat come out.
On which one?
Then it would pull like it has no compression...
Its a shame about the one with the bent crankshaft it actually ran pretty well
Right. The are tough to a point.
supper easy fix would of took me 15 min with the tool they make for bent shafts done it 100s of times not one costomer hads returned there mower saying it wasnt right most are still regulars today and alots still got the mower i fixed crank on somes been over 7 years ago never used the hammer way it never be right
Just like you said there's a reason the mowers ended up in the trash.
Nice to hear from you George.
teach them to pull the spark plug wire before touching the blade
OK Thanks

The exhaust out the carburator probably blew the air filter off and the user just left it where it fell.
Could be.
Is your compressor in the garage? I never hear it run on your videos.
Oh it runs. It is so noisy I have to stop filming most of the time. It is in this video but at around 2 minutes
ua-cam.com/video/1WSnuR_58v4/v-deo.html
I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM BE FORE.
I seen people pulling their arm off trying to start a mower after hitting the blade and finally its seen at the curb for scrap. LOL The city won't take a mower as garbage , the scrap guys pick them up fast. A lot have gone to cordless electric out here and few gas motors left at the curb these days.
The cordless electrics just don't have the run time out here with our bigger yards.
Do I see you squirting oil in the carburetor? Why are you squirting oil in the carburetor?
I should explain every time time i use it. I use a mix of gas and a bit of oil for priming engines. I put it in an oil can
Bruce Pender I was wondering the same thing, but figured it out. I also add a bit of oil to the gas on any mower sitting a long time. It lubricates the cylinder that has been sitting for a long time
But the timing set wrong
You don't know till you look. The flywheel key is the only source of timing.
Bruce Pender oh I ment I bet the timing is set wrong sorry to sound mean so😐
All is good Thanks for watching.
Couldn't you just disconnect the transmission on that Honda and use it as a push mower? I know you can do that on some mowers. But then who would buy it right.
That thing was so heavy. You have no idea. Hernia city.
Win some lose some. But lors of good parts.
Right Jim
The Honda hrr21 probably does not have a bad tranny. Probably the clutch cable is out of adjustment. Honda self propelled lawnmowers are common to have problems when pulled to the rear if the cable is out of adjustment. You can change the oil in the transmission by popping off its top cover and refilling it, completely, with 10W-30 synthetic motor oil. I have found the Honda lawnmower oil works best. I do not like the design of the drive system on Honda lawnmowers. Any drive system that is completely under the deck is prone to drive problems.
The gears were stripped. But thanks for the input. I appreciate any feedback.
And the winner is the Briggs 3.5 hp classic!
Thanks for Watching
four minutes 17min 20sec.thanks.
you are welcome. Oil stick holder.
is that a home made spark indicator? Are you sure you didn't clean the mowers before ACTION? hahaha
No I bought it. I did powerwash them before.
Take that Honda engine and put it on that first craftsman deck
It has a different flange, but a good idea.
Its pretty bad around here also most of the mowers are put out to the curb in pieces and not worth picking any more. But hey you have 1 runner and 3 parts donation machines.
You got it. Parts rock too.
People are almost giving away $400 lawn mowers this year. I have been picking up cheaper than dirt priced mowers this year, but then selling them for asking price. most of them dont run so that tells me people are just dumping their crap mowers and buying new ones rather than fixing them.
We had that and then our economy crashed and now there is nothing to find.
well 1 out of 4 isn't bad...lol I really thought the first one would be okay.
I will get the first one.
I see so many trash picks, Sometimes I try to avoid Tecumseh powered and low dollar Briggs.
Slow going for me too, getting harder to start the day of just setting. And all the wet weather hasn't helped either. Get well soon my friend .
You too. Just knowing who you are makes me a bit tougher. That is a compliment.
sometimes you get lucky, and others not so much.i had a Toro personal pace i got free and fought me every step of the way. if time was money,i lost even though i sold it for $100.00
I quite often put WAY too much time into things but in my case I am retired so my entire income is not dependant on it. I usually take on stuff the shops wouldn't touch.
im on disability which doesnt pay much,so any income helps
Yes my pension is 50% of my old salary but my expenses are lower too.
roger oconnor fixing trash mowers is like working a minimum wage job. you spend more time and $ (parts) to make $100 then you should.
they all cant be easy,i have spent 4 hours and zero dollars on one and sold the next day for 100 bucks
Nice. I trash picked a old atlas mower from a friends junkpile. I'm putting up a video of it now
I will check that out.
Much easier to change oil by just tipping mower and letting old oil run out filler hole into a scrap plastic bottle.
I understand but with the Honda's as well as some Briggs about 50ml (1/8 of a cup) Doesn't drip out. If they have a bottom drain i use it. Thanks
Just red the comment below
But you should keep that Honda for something else
Right thanks
put the Honda engine on the craftsmen
The blot pattern was wrong. Thanks for noticing.
I hate when people throw out busted stuff! It's so annoying. Why can't everyone put good stuff out to the curb and stop waisting our time? I think it's rude and selfish! lol! Now you gotta store it, strip it, or get rid of it...or worse yet, fix it!!! I would take it back and complain. ;)
Well at least i got the parts from these ones eh!!
When I was a kid the rich people were the ones who had tillers and snowblowers.
That's the real good stuff!
they make a tool now to make a bent crank like new used it 100s of times as a small engine mechanic not one return or complaint ever
Thanks I will check it out
Bruce, please stop the fast forwarding. We don't watch for speed, we watch for content.
You make good videos. Keep it up. Please!!
Believe me you don't want to watch 2 hours of a wrench going round and round instead of 15 minutes. . I would loose all my subscribers. I only fast forward when it gets repetitive. Thanks for the comment. I have had people thank me for doing it. You should make a few videos first It is a real eye opener.
at least save the engine from the Honda for use on another deck
I has a real weird bolt pattern. I did check that out though.
@@BrucesShop id just used it as push mower or found new deck and drilled new holes done that alot of times
trying to make money fixing trash mowers is impossible, your better off working a minimum wage job like McDonald's. the amount of time and with cost of parts it's slim profits.
Yes To make money you have to know when to stop or even start for that matter.
I suspect the challenge of working on old mowers in ones spare time is much more enjoyable though.
I still make promises to folks that makes me push too hard. I am trying to slow that down. This spring has been a tough one for me.
