      Shutting down a major multi lane highway is destructive at best.
      Every ounce of pain that can be done offsite to shorten the time it takes to install this on the highway is worth its weight in gold.

    • @joytech23
      @joytech23 3 роки тому +124

      @@Luckingsworth In Australia they installed 41 gantries (some 60m long) along one of the busiest highways in the country along Sydney's M4 with minimal disruption. All taken to site in pieces and assembled in the late/early hours. Over several months 9pm they close one lane each way, 10pm two and 11pm all close until 4am re-opens. One thing that may have helped is parallel to the M4 is another lower-speed highway that has frequent on/off ramps, the diversions were very good and at most it might extend a trip 5-10 minutes.

If there's not a way to do a turnaround with the load and your route is blocked, they will make you just pull over on the side of the road as best as you can and make you wait. The state police don't mind because they are getting paid by the hour. On average they are making somewhere between $35 and $50 an hour.

    To everyone asking "why couldn't this have been broken up into shorter sections and assembled on sight?"... I'm no expert, but i have to assume a lot of very smart and well paid people worked on this transportation problem,
    looked at different routes on the map,
    and considered different methods to achieve the same goal,
    and determined that what we seen here was the best/easiest/cheapest way to go about it.
    My hat's off to them because they apparently knew what they were doing and did a fantastic job.
    Also, no doubt the driver is most excellent, but he also had a lot of support personnel helping him maneuver that thing. It was no doubt a team effort!

    Holy cow, listen to all the back seat drivers in the comments below. It would be very difficult to piece this down and take it in sections, which would still cause traffic problems, especially hooking those sections together on site and up in the air, when in one time to haul it all and end it. This was fully thought out and determined to be the best and safest way to do it and the least amount of traffic interference.

      It's a lot of pressure operating one of those things because if you make the slightest mistake someone could be killed or property could be destroyed cause there is a lot of weight on those heaby haulers and they don't stop easily that's why there's multiple operators for the rig , one being the main cab driver , another being the rear trailer controller then lastly there are the pilot vehicles that help to keep traffic away Along with guiding the operators around stuff so they don't have any collisions.

    That was so interesting. Everybody's seen the oversize vehicles with the lead and follow cars on the freeway, but this was bigger than I've ever seen, so enjoyed to watch. I don't know who in their right mind would give this a thumbs down, but I heard that the UA-camr gets money whether it's a good or bad review or thumb, as long as it's interaction with the audience.

    Watching this makes me wish the other kind of semis "cabovers" never would've phased out here in the USA. I remember I saw cabovers everywhere back in the 1980s & down. These days the cabovers I see most often are only fire trucks, garbage trucks, yard trucks, front discharge cement trucks, concrete pumper trucks, military trucks, crane trucks, & non semi trucks like those smaller size ones which are also cool.

      Charles Hunt that’s what happens when you are a convicted sex offender who pretends to be a cop, ex special forces, former military officer who is a master at general douche baggery. I’d love to see him spend some serious time in jail. They should give him one of his uniforms to wear in jail and see if the other inmates think he is impersonating a cop. 😝
