300-feet (90m) long, 600+ ton Oversized Load departing from Tamini with a 300-ton Transformer!

- A couple of weeks ago I've been invited by a kind friend of mine who works for Tamini, an Italian company that designs and builds power transformers, to witness the departure of one of their heaviest transformers from their headquarter in Legnano (near Milan) towards a warehouse. The heavy load was entrusted to Fagioli transport department, which prepared 16 + 16 axle lines trailers provided with a Schnabel car structure in order to support the 300 tons transformer. Completed by two Iveco Trakker 560 trucks at the front and an Astra HD9 at the rear, the convoy reached the length of about 90 meters (300 feet) and a total weight of approximately 660 tons.

surprised that the rear truck didn't have flashing light to warn motorists. It was blocking the flashing lights from the truck in front of it.
They usually have one or two cars following with flashing lights and flags

Clumsy place for a factory of those big transformers. But a good video.
I think the majority of what they make is much smaller, this beast is likely a special order for one of the new HVDC lines that run under the sea.
Maybe the factory was fine where it was and then everything sprung up around it causing the problems.

Not too serious about PPE, are they? Several guys working in the roadway without proper hi-viz on, no strobes or signs on the rear of the last truck to indicate a hazardous load, inoperable strobe or reversing beeper on the forklift. Yeah, not a company I'd feel safe working for.

Seems to be overkill for the weight of the load, the trailer is literally heavier than the cargo, and is a bigger weight to pull for the trucks, kinda weird.
3x ballasted tractors around 100 t
Moduler axles are also around 100 t
That leaves around 100 t for the girder brigde.
Perhaps a combination with the transformer placed on 20 axles wasn't possible due to height restrictions or limitations on the axle load (requiring more axles and a longer trailer)

Hello @@fuorisagoma , yes i do know. As a former truck driver ( Ginaf 5450) I do know that 50 or 60 tons is for one truck as gross weight; and that is on only 5 axis. Fully cappable for highway driving, that why i made this comment. I would assume that this transformer weighs way more. no offence.
@@basphilipsen9947 yeah I sort of think the same about these types of haulage, the trailer and overall rig seems WAY OVERKILL for the load, like, Australian coal road trains literally pull over 300 tons with only 4 quad axle trailers with one of them being powered. Maybe they're just playing it safe, but still, there are videos of Chinese semi trucks hauling over 200 tons of coal (a single enormous quad axle trailer)with only a 550-600 horsepower engine.

Perciò occorre distribuire la massa su molte ruote in modo che su ciascuna ci sia un carico massimo di 3 tonnellate ( se si tratta di assali a 4 ruote o di 1 , 5 tonnellate per assali a 8 ruote ) compresa la tara dei mezzi .
Questo comporta dei convogli molto lunghi e di difficile manovra .
