No, you're right - it seems Earth 2 paid Mapbox to add some extra functionality to it for them (Mapbox confirmed it). But it's still pretty pathetic and I thought the whole point of Earth 2 was to have a 1:1 recreation of the actual Earth (in which case why do you need to make your own buildings at all?) and for the actual game to be in 3D at RDR2 levels of detail (in which case these holobuildings are completely pointless)? Oh, it's just a way to squeeze more bucks out of people and distract them until they realize none of that will ever actually happen? Okay, it makes sense then.
This This reads like... An attempt at a fleshed out magic/worldbuilding system. But not well thought out enough to actually work and make sense? But it made worse by the fact that its made to scam more people out of their money...
It's a poor attempt to cover up their complete absence of actual game design, planning or forethought on the game mechanics. Remember their lead (well, only) devs have never actually built a game to completion before, only abandoned in Early Access...
I get this weird feeling that there is one guy on the team who is dreaming actual ideas and rambling, and the ceo just lets him come up with random shit because he is hoping it will keep people hooked longer and paying in longer before the rug pull. They have already made a ton of money, and their terms allow them to shut down the company and walk away at anytime. Their terms do not permit refunds, so suddenly the site goes down and thats that.
Finally you're probably the first UA-camr I've seen call Earth 2 Devs out on using default MapBox API features and calling them their own, or trying to play them off as if they developed them. Literally the map, and everythng you see is thanks to Mapbox besides the website UI itself.
this all reads as if Deckard Cain was dyslexic. "Come adventurer, got a story to tell you about Ether, Essence and creating resources out of the dreamworld"
Wait, how do you collect essence from mentars? DO they have gelflings hidden inside them somewhere? Even if they did, we would still need the crystal to drain it from their worthless lives.
Translation: Your tiles have an additional resource deposit, Ether, which can be collected and converted into Essence by a Mentar that you own. Essence can then be converted into any of the resources present on your tiles, allowing for a kind of sustainable production. Gems can be fed into the mentar to increase their production of Essence, and there will also be higher tiers of gems that will provide a greater bonus to Essence production. All of that is poorly worded but makes sense to me. The idea of paying to plan out buildings on your tiles (which I assume you will then have to spend resources on to construct according to that plan) is silly.
They forgot to mention the Mentar Creed: It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of Sapho that thoughts acquire speed The lips acquire... No, wait, that might be something else.
I think the Ether thing allows a user to spawn resources out of thin air, but only if those resources existed there in the first place. For example, if there's oil on the property, Ether can be converted into oil, but it can't be converted into salt if there's no salt on the property.
What I think they mean with essence is that it is wild and can be used as any resource that the lands you own have. So if you own lands that have steel and wood, then you can use essence as either of those resources.
Basically you open a mystery box whose size is based on the resources of your land. However the amount of stuff inside of the mystery box is so mysterious that it's only defining trait is that it can be no larger than the box which contains it. It's just some rando bull jive!
Hang on. If they're claiming this "cryptocurrency" has real value, and then adding an RNG element to obtaining it that requires players to put IN actual currency. Isn't that... gambling? Like, not even loot boxes, but just... ACTUAL gambling. Aren't there... laws about that kind of thing?
Technically they are trying to skirt FTC regulations by calling themselves and game and not a crypto. I will laugh hard when the FTC finally decides they are big enough to drop the hammer on.
Ok I don't know anything about earth 2 but I think what they are saying at 7:43 is lets say you have one tree on your land and you don't want to cut it down with this essence you can generate as much wood as you like, now lets say there are different kinds of wood if you have a pine tree you can only generate pine wood not Oak or aspen only pine. However you can generate as much as you like without harming your tree.
Felt like I had landed on an alien planet and they were trying to teach me their language listening to whatever that was E2 is putting out! My brain went into pause mode and decided that it had enough about 1/2 way through 😂
That is the death of games. Yes money is needed to run it but skipping over the whole game part leaves nothing to attract players. So even if a company doesn't really care what the game is like and just wants to go straight for the money, they still need to make some semblance of a game to attract them. It might be a chore, but they can just hire someone who does care to get it done for them.
I give it 2 more updates like this before the game servers disappear along with the money. They're all steps to invest more money into existing land to make it more valuable so it can be sold, but no one is buying, so it'll - at best - delay the fall. And they're saying that Essence can generate any resource that exists within the player's ownership sphere, such as, it can produce Iron if you have Iron on your land, but it can't make gold if you don't already have a gold generation source in your territory.
"since using it a player will be able to produce resources more or less out of thin air - yet only from those resources which exist on the player's properties." I guess "thin air" is a resource xD
The thing is there’s already loads of similar e-fake estate games just like this one. Some of them even have more functional fake earths. The appropriate spoof would be Earth Too or Earth Poo
It sounds like they're trying to make a gameplay loop something like: buy property with forest, place mentar, find jewels and upgrade jewels, upgrade mentar with jewels, collect essence use essence to collect wood, and then I don't know what you do with the wood. This is a lot of different materials that flow down a linear path with the end result of "resources" just counting up like a clock. I've played a few idle games and it's that single linear path that really kills my interest in that system. To put it in the perspective of let's say an RPG, you want the tools to make different builds to be able to do different things. You don't just want a lot of tedious steps to upgrade your one available build to +2.
Hey Callum! Great video! Your noise gate or de-esser or whatever you got going on for your mic input is a little aggressive, I'd reel it back a little bit! Keep up the great work!
There's actually one thing I like about what they are trying to do: The idea of trying to incorporate updates and addition of new "features" into the lore. That's a cool idea for this kind of "publically developed" project. Of course this is E2, so in the context of that, and in their execution, it's total nonsense, but the idea is cool.
It can work in games that have a solid world to work with. If they had an engaging backstory that paired with changes it would make sense but since the project seems so hollow as it is it just looks goofy and falls flat. (For example Fortnite does that. You can follow the story and see what's going on. Admittedly it's still goofy but at least if they tell you, for example, a faction is doing something, you can nod along and see how it affects gameplay the way you would receiving information in (for example) a movie. We all know it's made up but the suspension of disbelief is there)
ironicly even if the value of land where to always go up, the overall value would always go down because nobdy would want to buy the land making that land effectively worthless. reminder they said "its free to play" on there facebook
You aren't aware of the German system, which goes like this: "You want to build on your own property? Here, citizen, let me hand you this bible of building regulations you have to adhere to by law, and let me help you make sure, that you don't violate any of them by approving your blueprints. Thank you! That will be anywhere between 100-10K Euro processing fees you now owe to the "Bauamt", depending on the complexity of your planned construction project. Ein Hoch auf die "Baugenehmigung"!" Sounds to me like my whole country is living on Earth 2 already! But wait! There is more! "Oh, citizen! We noticed that your property is (POTENTIONALLY!) leaking all kinds of stuff like gasoline, oil, damaging liquids in general into the ground, thereby (POTENTIONALLY!) polluting the water reserves deep below your property and the ground OUTSIDE of your property, so here you go, citizen, pay your "Grundsteuer", which we calculate based on the squaremeters of your property and literally dozens of other potential factors. Annualy recurring payments sound fair, am I right, citizen? Of course I am, I am your government, afterall!" Virtual Earth 2`s Germany is in the MENTAR phase right now. RL Germany has already reached the MENTAL state (pun intented!) of the game!

There things your missing out, mentars need jewels to increase production on ether then you convert that into essence which is used for holo buildings + domains/epls
At this point I am convinced they intentionally add features in the wrong order, so they will always be useless, and only those people would buy who want to speculate. 4:00 This sounds like someone trying to make a game who never played a game.
I get that feeling too, but also when it comes to their patch notes. They had "more on that below" _twice_ in the text. Why not start with the thing that requires no further explanation?
What on Earth 2 are these guys thinking? Actually, scratch that. They're probably thinking "Hahaha, man, I can't believe people are still falling for this!"
Well, actually I can see a game developing here. You watch your mentar waiting for e-ther to show up, and then click the mentar to convert the e-ther into essence. You could compare this to World of Warcraft if you took WoW and stripped out everything except the fishing. It will be a very boring game, but then fishing is boring. Slotting in gems or what-have-you is the equivalent of attaching a lure to your fishing line.
Exactly. They said as much in the patch notes, they described collecting essence as the main mechanic of the game. At least, that's how I understood it.
ok, essence if I read it right produces say iron out of thin air in lots where iron is in the ground, but without exhausting the iron supply in the ground. Of course no iron exists in e2 (yet?). Kinda makes sense, things like that have existed in games before.
I think they are just trying to prolong so they can get more interest money from the bank of their principal deposit. They are using this interest money to pay any liquidation request. They are hoping if they can hold long enough the interest payment would be enough to pay everything leaving the principal deposit for themselves
I somehow think this is strategy and genious out of financial point of view. The devs promissed a game and managed to get the cryptos hyped. Then they are pushing them from update to update till the "investors" get uninterested and jump of. But as they cant pull their money out unless someone wants to buy - a chance getting smaller and smaller every day - they wont lose the money players did put in. And in the end of the day they will complain about missing player base and income and shut down. And nobody can blame them for anything, not even cashgrab as they did shut down regulary and not run off.
People dump money into these 'games' and get invested both financially and emotionally. The more they 'invest', the more devoted they are, even when they are being taken advantage of. It's one of the reasons people stay with MLMs.
Bruh this sounds like some World of Warcraft Shadowlands shit. You collect the anima to get the shards of domination, then you go and collect the stygia for the soul ash then upgrade it to soul essence and then combine it with the shards to get more anima

I hate that in Transport Fever, you're constantly moving fantasy stuff like steel, wood, oil and corn instead of real and critical ressources like jewels, essence and e-ther.
lol
The more I hear about this, the more it reminds me of the very early efforts of Second Life and Linden Labs trying to create its own cryptocurrency before they were even being called that publicly. I had a brief stint where someone was trying to hire me as a SL Model animator and wanted to see me make a basic model for a project. To even start working on a basic model to see what the engine could do without potential idea theft in a public creation space, I had to buy virtual real estate then buy a virtual lab, then go around other players shops to complete my virtual space before I could even buy the basic resources ans licenses to build on my own property and allocate more RAM to my particular plot of land than a normal free player. Earth 2 feels like a cheap knockoff of even THAT.

Okay but "I'm going to shit yourself" is pretty threatening. XD
As a developer who has used map box- I actually don’t think that drag and drop tool that creates geometry is part of MapBox at all. I believe that toggle on their API will only show currently existing buildings - but I could be wrong.
This
This reads like...
Yeah, this is supposed to be a simulation of Earth, not this random resources nonsense!
As someone who's been watching the Earth 2 mess personally and keeping Mr. Arya on blast, nice vid

Wait, how do you collect essence from mentars? DO they have gelflings hidden inside them somewhere? Even if they did, we would still need the crystal to drain it from their worthless lives.
Translation:
Your tiles have an additional resource deposit, Ether, which can be collected and converted into Essence by a Mentar that you own.
It almost sounds like an actual game mechanic until you remember... oh right there is no game.
Last few minutes of this had me in stitches. Thank you Callum
They forgot to mention the Mentar Creed:
It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.
It is by the juice of Sapho that thoughts acquire speed
The lips acquire...
No, wait, that might be something else.
The copium must flow.
I think the Ether thing allows a user to spawn resources out of thin air, but only if those resources existed there in the first place. For example, if there's oil on the property, Ether can be converted into oil, but it can't be converted into salt if there's no salt on the property.
This sounds like they're charging customers to "mine" crypto for them that has some semblance of UI.

What I think they mean with essence is that it is wild and can be used as any resource that the lands you own have. So if you own lands that have steel and wood, then you can use essence as either of those resources.

Hang on. If they're claiming this "cryptocurrency" has real value, and then adding an RNG element to obtaining it that requires players to put IN actual currency.

well as seen often enough governments obviously dont give a shit if its related to the web or video games...
Technically they are trying to skirt FTC regulations by calling themselves and game and not a crypto. I will laugh hard when the FTC finally decides they are big enough to drop the hammer on.
It has me wondering how long it will be before they add eggs that you get to raise like Tamagotchis.
This is so redicoulus that by the time i made it to the cosby joke i 100% expected an actual picture.
Hair game is top notch here, Cal.
Felt like I had landed on an alien planet and they were trying to teach me their language listening to whatever that was E2 is putting out! My brain went into pause mode and decided that it had enough about 1/2 way through 😂
I'm gonna be honest, when you made that Picture of Cosby joke, I was genuinely expecting you to post an image of just that.
It's funny, how their whole "game development" centers solely on ne monetarization mechanics, before they even have anything resembling a game.
Well, if you read it as cloning resources already on your land it makes a bit more sense.
@@noor-rx1ij Yeah, I was thinking it was pretty clear; if you have a property that makes wood, you can use essence to get more wood from the property.
Callum, you and the team from Nightmare World need to start up a new project called Earth 3.
In the software development arena FUD stands for Fucked Up Data. Curiously Earth2 satisfies both definitions.
We all know it's made up but the suspension of disbelief is there)
Hi I'm the guy that tried to tell people this in November a month after they launched 😂😂😆😆 I'm glad people are starting to put the pieces together...
ironicly even if the value of land where to always go up, the overall value would always go down because nobdy would want to buy the land making that land effectively worthless. reminder they said "its free to play" on there facebook

Ah, so its a multi level marketing mmo "triangle" shaped sandbox. Just what we needed, lovely.
That is the good thing about earth1. when you own a property, you can build a house on it for free!
U sure? My house was really expensive.
@@andrejaeckle9828 Its the same in the USA. It gets even better that there are often DIRECTLY CONFLICTING ordinances from different departments. There things your missing out, mentars need jewels to increase production on ether then you convert that into essence which is used for holo buildings + domains/epls
At this point I am convinced they intentionally add features in the wrong order, so they will always be useless, and only those people would buy who want to speculate.

That update "note" reads like an old UCB skit. Like the author was deliberately writing crazy to mess with the reader.
The webcam picture seems to be not very sharp. And maybe something can be done with colors (like applying LUT or changing contrast)

That holo building looks like a Monopoly building, That you put on the board to get money if people land on it.
I think they are just trying to prolong so they can get more interest money from the bank of their principal deposit. They are using this interest money to pay any liquidation request. They are hoping if they can hold long enough the interest payment would be enough to pay everything leaving the principal deposit for themselves

I keep hearing 'hollow buildings' and I keep wondering what the point is. I get it's 'holo', but that's not what comes to mind.
I imagine Mentars are really derpy looking Minotaurs trying to Mentor people on why they should try and make the most of Earth 1.
Earth 2 is like a "what if EA bought Google Maps" sort of thing. Its getting worse than the actual Earth at this point.
"How can it get worse?"
Just wait, we'll find out soon enough.
Earth 2 going to be a great place to grow roses. The whole place is just endless layers of bullsh*t.
