Tom: it’s foreshadowing dark and unpleasant cannibalism in the future
Me: the 10 instances of unsettling cannibalism we’ve had already weren’t dark and unsettling enough?
I always figured "under the sea" to mean "in the future "
One thing I especially like in the audiobooks is how jolly Roy Dotrice makes Patchface sound. It just adds this extra layer of creepiness once you know he’s more than just a jester with a sad backstory.
His execution is SO good sometimes.

I will ABSOLUTELY watch videos about deep lore from TNG, DS9, and VOY
Patchface's quote to Jon about crows being white as snow under the sea might be foreshadowing Jon's time inhabiting Ghost after he's killed, since Ghost is a white wolf.
The Valyria theory is intriguing though. Now I very much want Winds to divert from the show by having Shireen & Patchface escape Mel trying to burn her & Patchface taking her to Valyria to meet the Shrouded Lord
I didn't think I'd see the Mishapocalype picture again in the year of our Lord 2023
@@DukeDukeGo I'm single handedly keeping the legend alive
As for the Mermen feasting on Starfish served by Crabs quote: I think it's Manderleys feasting on Boltons. As for crabs... not sure how Celtigars or Borrells could be involved as far as crab sigils go.
Perhaps it's heavy armor? Maybe the Knights of the Vale come to assist at the perfect time as in the show?
Ooooooh the Starfish are the flayed man??
@TheInterestingNerdClub yeah, that's my thought. Looking from afar that's what they'd look like. Pink starfish.
@@jaredbrady5566Is Roose Bolton Patrick Star??
It's always summer the sea where the merwives wear nennymoans in their hair and weave gowns of silver seaweed. Nennymoans are annemones. According to Greek mythology, anemones sprang out of the tears of Aphrodite while she was mourning the death of her lover, Adonis. Purple anemone flowers symbolize protection from evil. This could point to the dark purple crystals in Sansa's hair net as Anemone's are toxic. Sansa also wore a silver gown to the wedding. And since GRRM is such a literary fan...there is a poem by DH Lawrence called Purple Anemones.
Purple Anemones
BY D. H. LAWRENCE
Who gave us flowers?
Heaven? The white God?
Nonsense!
Up out of hell,
From Hades;
Infernal Dis!
Jesus the god of flowers-?
Not he.
Or sun-bright Apollo, him so musical?
Him neither.
Who then?
Say who.
Say it-and it is Pluto,
Dis
The dark one
Proserpine’s master.
Who contradicts-?
When she broke forth from below,
Flowers came, hell-hounds on her heels.
Dis, the dark, the jealous god, the husband,
Flower-sumptuous-blooded.
Go then, he said.
And in Sicily, on the meadows of Enna,
She thought she had left him;
But opened around her purple anemones,
Caverns,
Little hells of color, caves of darkness,
Hell, risen in pursuit of her; royal, sumptuous
Pit-falls.
All at her feet
Hell opening;
At her white ankles
Hell rearing its husband-splendid, serpent heads,
Hell-purple, to get at her-
Why did he let her go?
So he could track her down again, white victim.
Ah mastery!
Hell’s husband-blossoms
Out on earth again.
Look out, Persephone!
You, Madame Ceres, mind yourself, the enemy is upon you.
About your feet spontaneous aconite,
Hell-glamorous, and purple husband-tyranny
Enveloping your late-enfranchised plains.
You thought your daughter had escaped?
No more stockings to darn for the flower-roots, down in hell?
But ah my dear!
Aha, the stripe-cheeked whelps, whippet-slim crocuses,
At ’em, boys, at ’em!
Ho golden-spaniel, sweet alert narcissus,
Smell ’em, smell ’em out!
Those two enfranchised women.
Somebody is coming!
Oho there!
Dark blue anemones!
Hell is up!
Hell on earth, and Dis within the depths!
Run, Persephone, he is after you already.
Why did he let her go?
To track her down;
All the sport of summer and spring, and flowers snapping
at her ankles and catching her by the hair!
Poor Persephone and her rights for women.
Husband-snared hell-queen,
It is spring.
It is spring,
And pomp of husband-strategy on earth.
Ceres, kiss your girl, you think you’ve got her back.
The bit of husband-tilth she is,
Persephone!
Poor mothers-in-law!
They are always sold.
It is spring.
Woah. That's some crazy stuff, I kinda love it.
It is spring, it is spring.
pretty late to the party, but I get a very strong dancing = murdering vibe.
shadows = others or shadowbaby
birds wit scales = dragons/white fish
in the dark = long night.
under the sea - underground, including caves and root system, and under the sea, or analogous with/opposite of world, or future.
clever rhyme = he's saying he knows more than the 3-eyed crow and a guy (bloodraven?)
old eat young = baby sacrifice down the wells?
mermen riding seahorses, blowing seashells ould also be a Squishers
house theme, as food for thought. not sure of all of these make sense:
fool = House Follard, house Falwell
king = houae Mudd, house Manwoody
maiden = Piper
seahorse = house Velarion
seashell - house Westerling
mermen = house Manderly
starfish = house Ruthermont
crab = house Borrell of Sweetsister or house Celtigar of Claw Isle, house Magnar
Merwives wearing nennymoans and weave gowns of silver seaweed = house Piper? + nennymoans (blue flower?) = Riverlands maiden with a blue flower. Or could be an Asshai reference.
I think the snows up and dry rain one is about Jon Snow rising up as Shireen's charred bones' ashes fall down.
Shadows coming to dance one, well, the Others are described as white shadows and what does Waymar Royce says to them? "Dance with me then".
Birds have scales for feathers and the crows are white as snow... If under the sea is about death, than after Jon resurrects after a time inside Ghost, then he could come back with white hair (not the first time people's hair become white i.e. Theon) lending creedence to his Targaryen ascendece, the crow sheds his black feathers to reveal the silvery white dragon scales.
The sea shells one seems to be one of the most important while being one of the most cryptic. Marching into the sea and out again is resurrection, wights. The blowing sea shells could be the Horn of Winter, but i lend more towards the horns of the watch blowing three times. Remember Cotter Pyke's letter "dead things in the water". The seahorses i have no idea, maybe some people will die in the ships unbeknownst to them and resurrect at Eastwatch? Ships are the only match for seahorses i can think.
More than shadows staying, shadows come to dance three times but we have only seen two shadow babies so far. When will we get the third baby? OH OH OH
Although it could also be a reference to the three leeches burned with bloodmagic and the three kings that die. OH OH OH
two things. Firstly, the fact we had this much discussion about underwater prophecy and NO MENTION of the Squishers. not once?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!
secondly the laugh thing for "oh oh oh" is cool and creepy and all, but your theory of him like trying to be coherent and his rhymes are what he's saying coming out in "magical moon speak" fits better how i've always read it, where it's closer to pained groans/sobs. 'cause the idea that "oh oh oh" is him struggling and suffering against the confines of his curse is just heartbreaking
For my life I can't figure out how I would pronounce it if it's not like a chuckle. But maybe my esteemed co-host is right and it's just a Michael Jackson thing.
Oh-OH-ah!
Seahorses in some old cultures are considered the bastard children of dragons. So maybe actually dragons or underwater dragons I.E sea serpents. I know I know oh oh oh

Honestly gents I’m disappointed, why at no point did you start singing “Under the Sea” from the Little Mermaid?
Everytime i think about Patchface, I think of this song as well
🎶 Under the sea.
Under the sea!
Close to a breakthrough?
Patchface will take you.
Under the sea! 🎶
Honestly? This is my favourite YT channel
I exclusively read Patchface quotes in that crab’s voice
When bran warged hodor from another time it fractured his mind to speak only hodor. Could patchfaces riddles be something akin to that? I know I know oh oh oh oh
I love this theory. Time travel Bran Shenanigans. Brananigans.
@@InterestingNerdClub was actually thinking more along the lines of bloodraven although timey wimey bran shenanigans works too!
Maybe Patchie’s last words were something like ‘I don’t know how to swim’ as he drowned and his brain got all scrambled egg-d while he drowned so now he’s constantly spouting whatever prophesy is being forced through him and in his brief moments of clarity he is trapped repeating his final words. Idk seems GRRMs shade of dark
Patchface is a mummer, and dragons all have scales. I know, I know, oh oh oh.
That's some Valyrian Steel Tinfoil you're folding there. I like it.
@@InterestingNerdClub Tinfoil strong enough to repel all reason!

Under the sea . Under the green see / greenseer I know i know oh oh oh oh
Maybe "marching into the sea and back again" means that they will *face death* and live to tell of it. But it probably.makes more sense that they return as wights.
I know, I know. Ou, ou, ou.
I like this interpretation. Maybe it's a description of what's going to happen to Jon, or even everyone that goes to Hardhome?
The Cressen prologue might be the best chapter in aCoK, but out of all the prologues I do prefer the aSoS prlogue with Chett. The end of that chapter is so fucking great.
This is a good take. That chapter is fantastic.
Could the Seashells quote be a future reference to the Prologue of The Winds of Winter? According to GRRM, the POV for TWOW's Prologue will be Jeyne Westerling, and House Westerling's sigil is six white SEASHELLS on sand. Clearly, since this is a Prologue POV, she will die, which means something happens to her and maybe her house...
Oooooh this is very interesting. That kinda fits with the merwives imagery too. I kinda like it.
Do you reckon she’ll die in childbirth delivering Robb’s heir if she did manage to get pregnant? I doubt it but GRRM does love women dying in childbirth
@@emilybarclay8831 I don't think that she got pregnant. In Catelyn III in ASOS, it's stated that Sybell, Jeyne's mother, was giving her a drink to "increase fertility". However it is a known fact that moon tea exists, which prevents or aborts pregnancies. Given that the Westerlings were complicit in Tywin Lanister's plan; I think it's unlikely that a child will be born. Then again, an unexpected child born in spite of that feels very GRR Martin to me...
@@chaos_reigns4022 yea that’s what i was thinking. GRRM loves when secret plots, especially involving marriage and reproduction, fail spectacularly
Grrm said Jeyne would feature in the prologue, not that she would be the pob
This video brought up a thought, targarians always burn their dead probably to hide vilariayan magic. Isn't euron near where Aemons body last was, preserved on a ship?
THIS IS SUCH A GOOD POINT. That ship is still in Oldtown and currently Marwyn the Mage is planning on taking it to see Dany. What if Euron gets ahold of Marwyn and Aemon's body in one move??
Re: Patchface’s communication. He was lost at sea for 3 days and washed up dead. I believe there was someone from the Iron Islands around who gave him drowned god CPR. But we know that the longer someone’s body is dead, the farther their soul strays from their body and the less it comes back when they’re reanimated. Compare Beric to Stoneheart. Or, from a scientific point of view, the longer the brain goes without oxygen, the more brain cells die. So even if he was only dead for a few minutes, and regular CPR brought him back, if it was more than a few minutes it could have totally fried his communication center
This is a good point. His difficulty communicating doesn't need to be supernatural.
I thought nennymones were anemones?
I know, I know, oh oh oh!
agree, davos is the cutest
BTW im pretty sure four blasts means Taylor swift tickets are out
If childhood trauma unlocks skinchanger abilities/turns a skinchanger into a greenseer and (according to George) all the Stark kids are skinchangers, how has Sansa not unlocked hers?
They all went through the trauma of having their father die,
Robb had to fight in war at 15 and we see him saying shit like "you are not a wolf", so he at least has wolf dreams
Arya was there when Ned died and she went through the horrors of war from a smallfolk perspective, we know she has wolfdreams and begins controlling her powers in Braavos
Bran had his fall and hiding in the dark crypts for weeks, everyone in Winterfell dying, his whole journey to and north of the wall, he's the most powerful skinchanger we know, even tho he's not fully in control of his powers yet
Rickon had the same trauma as Bran until they split up, except the fall, but also he's much younger. He has prophetic dreams and seems feral like his wolf
Sansa also saw her dad die, was held hostage and abused in Kings landing, was almost raped multiple times and saw her aunt pushed out the moon door. Yes she has no wolf to bound with, but like Arya she could skinchange other animals, but we have seen zero evidence of any skinchanging abilities
Edit: shoot I forgot Jon lol. He starts having wolf dreams pretty early on I think, before the Great Ranging and iirc maybe even before the Whights attack Mormont and he burns his hand, so the only trauma he would have at this point is Cat being cruel to him as a kid, which don't get me wrong, is traumatic for him and has led to insecurities, but not as traumatic as some of the other shit
I think that Lady dying would have interrupted the development of Sansa's skinchanging powers, as (I think) the only other case we see in the story of someone's skinchanged animal dying while the person is alive is Varamyr Sixskins, and after Mel kills his eagle he loses control of his other animals. So I think that Sansa might have to bond another animal for her powers to keep developing.
What makes the most sense to me is that she'll do this soon with probably some type of bird, because she keeps repeatedly thinking about the Hound calling her 'little bird', and we know from Bran that ravens are fairly easy to skinchange.
What if Birds are a metaphor for magic users in general. Not every bird has feathers, and the ones under the sea have Scales (either fishmen or Dragon bonded.)
Oooooh. That does square with all the flying imagery we see in the Bran and Euron storylines.
Under the Sea, the fishes watch the spiders spin their secrets on the Web (and they like, comment, and subscribe). I know, I know! Oh! Oh! Oh!
It turned out that the readers were the fishes all along.
The starfish soup is referring to the weirwood paste (some people believe it refers to the Bolton sigil), the mermen are the Manderlys and the crabs are house Celtigar?
That seems almost too obvious but then again Patchie’s prophecies do tend to actually be pretty straightforward once you get past the symbolism. The Manderly/ Celtigar thing is probably correct and I don’t really see how the Bolton sigil could be mistaken for a starfish since it’s just a dude and it’s more four pointed than 5
@@emilybarclay8831 I thought the same thing about the Bolton as a starfish, but there are people who are very adamant about it. I like the wierwood past option only because I can't think of anything else that has 5 points that you can eat.

I’m reading the books for the first time. Are you telling me Daenarys chapters amount to being bad. I’d believe it, but damn would that be disappointing.
And you like Jon Chapters? He’s had moments that make me think it’s getting good. But then it doesn’t and I feel blue balled.
This is the way I feel about dany chapters! They're not bad, we just haven't gotten a satisfying climax from them yet, unlike Jon's chapters. The same is true with Sansa's chapters, we're still in the middle parts. That, by the way, is one of the reasons there's so much debate about Dany and Sansa in the fandom.
@@InterestingNerdClub I can respect that. And I never thought about Sansa’s chapters like that either. I really just try and plow past Dany and Sansa and even Bran until I get to either a Cat or Tyrion chapter. I try and give Jon chances and it’s picking up but still not quite there for me. I just started Storm and was super excited to see Jamie Fookin Lannister as the first chapter and the prologue makes me a little more hopeful about Jon’s chapters. But I’m really all about my boy Tyrion and my girl Cat so far. Davos can also hang out.
