they pump out more mediocre romances, villainess weebtoons more than the isekai genre. Idk who even reads them

You should see the Reddit for this genre of romance, it's a lot of active people actually and they'll eat everything they can find. I'm one of them

i wish you hadnt included guy upstairs in this because the guy who was being “persistent” was never portrayed as being a good guy, the mc always had a bad feeling about him & he was revealed as being an antagonist lol

Lookism was such a wasted potential, I have no idea why they decided to take the story in such a direction, the first part was so good, now they have pretty much eradicated half of the original characters and it has become more of a martial arts, villan of the week kinda thing, and a boring and messy one at that.

It's completely lost its focus and its become more of the generic "high school" gang war type stuff - really not a fan of it tbh

Could be a hot take but I don't mind the direction lookism took. I feel like there are only so many things you can do with the "Good looking People get treated better" theme before it starts to get worn out. At least in Lookism's case I feel like they did a pretty good job at exploring it and setting up enough plot points before changing the main focus of the story. I can definitely see why major changes in the story's focus put people off (I mean both of the MC's bodies look practically identical now for example) but honestly I'm still enjoying it for what it is.

Good points. Nice video. Agree with all the issues raised.
I am also not a fan of most titles featured.... Except Beware the Villainess. Not better than the hourglass one, but way decent compare to the similar villainess webtoons out there.

Yup - it's definitely not bad by any means - It's light-hearted with nice art and I've definitely read a bit too much of it than I'd like to admit lol
I've just started reading into the villainess genre, are there any you'd say are worth a read?

@@itswoojIf you’re going for something more light-hearted funny, and overall fun I suggest reading Always a catch, there’s only a few chapters available but it is worth the read

@@itswooj you should check a fantasie of a stepmother for a heavier and darker storyline.
My in laws are obsessed with me, the title sounds ridiculous but it's really good and on the heavier side too.
Long after the ending, is more light hearted and actually portrays a healthy relationship and address the problem with some villainess isekai tropes
Answer me my prince, pen pals with a little mystery. the story telling is by the two MC sending letters to each other so it's not for everyone.
The perks of being an s class heroine, it's like a perfect mix of omniscient reader and Roman fantasy isekai with systems, climbing towers, constellations. My personal favourite.
Good ones but has it flaws :
      I'll protect the lovable you
      Caught by the villain
      I became the hero's mother
Marriage of convenience (CW some questionable stuff here)
Like a wind on a dry branch (super slow burn but worth it)
      The broken ring

Oops! Sorry for the late reply. 😅
The villainess themed stories that I like and can recall at the top of my head are:
      I Raised Cinderella Preciously
      Not-Sew-Wicked Stepmon
      Kill the Villainess
      The Villainess's Stationery Shop
I can't recall the others. I had been working on a video related to villainesses... maybe I can finally recall the others once I finish it (it's easier to remember those I don't like much haha)

I really liked the video, thank you for sharing your opinion, (which I find valid and agree on a lot of points)
The *only* that is wrong here is the “Beware of the Villainess.”
The claims of her being perfect are very much right, as it help to easily get rid of the annoying characters in a comedic way without going through an entire arc of her training or finding their weaknesses. Another thing, the blue haired guy (half wolf) is the only love interest others are just side characters.
#1: crown prince, her ex fiancé who she broke off the marriage with in the first 2 chapters
#2: Another wolf guy simping for the og fl, he does it without thinking about boundaries because, well, he’s half dog and half worm brained
#3: The only one that offended me was the long white haired guy… *HE’S HER YOUNGER BROTHER I BEG OF YOU NOT TO SHIP THEM* Anyways…. Ogfl is Mc’s friend, Mc’s brother likes ogfl but instead of being a normal human and going to ask her about their relationship, he stalks her 💀
#4: Who we didn’t see is just a psychopath who imprisoned ogfl if she picked to go with him so we don’t talk about him.
But yeah, story isn’t meant to be deep, it’s supposed to be a fun comedy that you don’t look much into

And about ml being a dog to her, I don’t particularly like it but it does make sense in some way??? I didn’t really focus on the romance stuff tbh.
Story is: He was really weak (physically and magically [wolves have their own magic there]) and was useless compared to his brother who was a prodigy in magic. So like any good family will, they declawed him and cut off his tongue, leaving him on the streets to die. He was such a disgrace, when the wolves found out he was alive they sent on of their kind just to go find and kill him. The reason is because if other races found out what they did to him just because he was weak physically and mentally, they would either snark at them or stop all relations with them due to fear. Mc saved him from dying on the street, and even took him in as a servant so he won’t be killed by the wolves. Since this was the first time since he was loved after it was found out he was weak, he was desperate to stay by Mc’s side, thinking that if she leaves he will be abandoned again.
I didn’t really like the romance as I just saw the series as a comedy, and as I always say
*IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE YURI ROUTE*

I had to quit going on the webtoon site. It used to be ok back in 2017-2019 but now it’s marketed towards women too much to the point where it’s unusable.🫡
When 90% of the comics are just lesbian love stories I’d rather not browse it tbh.
As for romance webtoons, eh they are just lightweight smut fan fiction power fantasy stuff for women, sort of similar to the op mc can destroy an army in 5 seconds stuff is for guys.

What I've personally noticed is that webtoon originals are usually lower in quality since they don't have a good writer - you can tell the significant difference in plot quality between those which are based off of existing novels and those which are original, although there are (few) exceptions to this pattern.
Defo agree on what you mean in the comparison to op mcs ahah they're mostly very repetitive.
