Sadly, the algorithm has meant I’ve gone for short periods without seeing your content but I always come back to it. Your video on Music, Passion and Cognitive Function honesty blew me away. The algorithm definitely is screwing with the morality of the content creators. If the creator doesn't essentially sell their soul now on this platform it's rare that they'll be able to do well on here. I didn't even know about the smash mouth cover and I'm subbed which tells you a lot about how youtube pushes content.

I do genuinely enjoy your reactions to music, because of several things: 1) I think you have a unique view of stuff that completely goes over my head as just a casual listener. 2) Your music taste is close to mine, so your recommendations carry a lot of weight for me. 3) You have an eloquent, yet easy way to explain why a piece of music is good, or worthwhile, like those few videos you did about good vs bad(I think it was about Metal, Rap and Prog). You may not be proud of this kind of content, but I, as a viewer, get a lot of value and insight out of those.

Oh, for content ideas, I personally really like watching like song writing challenges and stuff. I liked stuff that Rob Scallon would do back in the day of trying to write a song in an hour and stuff like that. Idk as someone who really likes the whole song writing and tracking process of music, I really like watching videos about that stuff (even if silly)

I think YT's algo is pretty good at paralleling viewer behaviour and putting things forward, I just think there are certain invisible traps that YT have only implicitly talked about, and they're more across time things than anything. Also, making genuine videos but optimised for a large-ish view pool can help, though I don't know per scenario, haven't seen the videos referenced. It definitely seems that way on other people's channels that have provided examples of it and changes to the content form/format. Title and thumbnail are super important too, and trying to, even though it is hard work to get it to be genuine, form the t&t first or at least foremost, and doing vids around it can boost things.

I had an idea for another exposé style video like the series you did for CCM. You should see if there is anything shady about the Children's music industry. Considering how many young people are involved with re-recordings/covers of old nursery rhymes and public domain songs, I wouldn't doubt that there is exploitation on some level involved there.

I can only imagine how it feels doing content creation as a full time job, especially with regard to the balance of making content that succeeds in the algorithm (and hence creates good monetary compensation) and creating content that fulfills you. I'll keep watching your videos and listening to whatever you're working on in the music world, because I've always appreciated your direct, clear, and honest presentation. I hope you can find a way to both make content that excels in the algorithm and fulfills you. I think it's been around 5-6 years since I first stumbled upon your content and decided to stay for the entire ride. Do what you must man, you have to be able to first provide for yourself in order to flourish as a creator ("except if you live in Paris - there starvation is still considered an art form"). If that means putting out content less often, so be it - no one here is going to leave because of it.
And I'm glad you're still doing mixing - they sound pretty good. Hopefully I can finish my songs and have some cooperation in the future.

it really didn't come across like that, he was genuine when he says that he doesn't find the cheap reaction videos fulfilling even though it is what brings in the revenue. He is literally willing to risk getting a regular job if it means doing more fulfilling videos.

This video appeared in my feed today and I decided to watch it without being familiar with your channel or having clue as to what this might be about. I listened to your dilemma and then watched the video you said you were proud to create. I found Music: The Profound Mystery Humans Need to Survive... to be an excellent, intelligent and thought provoking video essay. Clearly a lot of hard work went into it and you have every reason to be proud of your accomplishment. One thing that struck a particular chord with me was how music has the ability to bring people together. I think we've been seeing this in the UA-cam community with Ren, NF and Oliver Anthony's music to name a few. Their music is relatable to the struggles that so many are experiencing these days and the comment sections are filled with personal accounts of said hardships and support. I subscribed to your channel based on only 2 videos. I'm excited to see where this musical exploration takes you. Best of luck with your channel.

You could make a channel for highlight clips of your livestreams, like how Nik Nocturnal and Finn McKenty do. For example that meme from The Infection by Disturbed would have been viral had it been more public.

Hey mike, firstly I want to say thank you for the content you make; it's helped me think about music in ways I never would have thought of. If you're open for video ideas, would you consider doing an analysis of the different roles certain instruments have played in the history of rock/metal? Ie how the role of the guitar has changed over the last ~80 years. Either way, I'm glad to hear you aren't going to be making any compromises, and can't wait for the next video!

Youve also introduced me to a lot of bands that i now absolutely love, from Opeth, Dream Theater, Peiphery, Thank You Scientist, all who have helped me along with so many other bands ( Iron Maiden is my favorite) overcome the war i went through with myself last year when i attempted suicide and spent a week in the hospital. So in a way, you unknowingly helped me get through that by introducing me to so much music.

I have enjoyed most of your different types of videosfor years. I recently showed one of my buddies your "i hate pop punk" song for a good laugh during a night of drinking. I couldnt believe that was 5 years ago already. Videos about music and psychology are very interesting and if you do more videos on that i will definitely check them out. (not saying that is the only videos i would check out ofc) good luick in this next chapter of become the knight!
I think that maybe moving some content onto Rumble could be an option as Rumble is essentially UA-cam without as much censorship and I don't think demonetization will occur if you were to do deep dive dissections and rant pieces on certain songs/bands/artists etc but I'm no Rumble expert.

Man, first of all, I appreciate your candid manner and the sharing of your heart. That's why I've been watching you for ... fuck, man, I have no idea how many years. Since early fye reax vids, I guess. I definitely remember your announcement that you were quitting your job to make YT your full-time gig.
I totally get what you're saying about ... everything you're saying. My music channel is so tiny, and it can be so discouraging to spend 15-20 hours on a video that gets no traction and see someone who spent 20 minutes at most whose production quality is shit get exponentially more. It is what it is, though.
I didn't watch the "All-Star" cover because I've hated that song since it came out, and I'm not sure anybody could ever do anything to make me like it, so I skipped out on it.
Bottom line: Keep doing what you want to do, what feels good to do, and don't compromise yourself in the name of the algorithm.

Mike I love your musical intuition and an your critiques, you should try something that involves the fans more that are more intimate, maybe tryin doing cool limit merch runs, like yo can try selling merch run of 100 for 50 and include some perk of whatever it you want to include, maybe like first access to your songwriting course or something of hat nature,you can make a descent profit, try collaborating with more UA-camrs that you respect to get your name out here more, try doing fun things with them fr an entertaining video and getting your name out there more, guitar UA-cam is a big community and from what I've seen a lot of them are love to collaborate with other UA-camrs to my great content, the best thing we can do as musicians is pick each other up to make the community great, I see that you can go great things and I hope the best for you, don't give up 💪
It’s no secret that content creation, and entertainment in general, is difficult, tedious, and requires a lot of luck.
Many UA-camrs have hit these crossroads, and some came out of it worse, and some better.
All you can do is to continue to make content you think is meaningful.

I feel like even if it takes a while eventually the videos that you really for your heart into and that you care about will get more views, I could be wrong but I think you'll be at much happier man if you go that. I started with your reactions to reaction videos about rock and metal. I stayed permanently when you made a video with trans singers, made me discover Flummox and gave a voice to someone who helped me make a decision for myself (the decision being no, I don't want to relearn singing just because I want a beard and chopping off the chesticles will be enough, though I'm still staying open to a change of mind later).
Your content is valuable. If reactions don't bring you joy, don't do it. I'm more than happy that you started doing more than reaction videos because it's useful content !

It’s funny. Just earlier today I was watching a football UA-camr who previously said they wouldn’t take any sponsorships of a certain type (I think it was sports betting) but they’ve had to walk back on that due to the financial bind they were in and they had to do it to continue doing UA-cam. The point is you do what you feel is best for yourself, whatever you choose. No one should judge you for that. Always enjoy your content.
