My 3 must have features to qualify as a "travel backpack" are: 1. Hip belt - chest strap is simply not complete without a hip belt. Doesn't even have to be fully padded, a very thin strap will do the job. 2. Elastic side compartment - for everything from large water bottles to outdoor gear. Not making this elastic is just form over function. 3. Comfortable handles - like the top handle on this Tomtoc, unlike the side ones which seems like an afterthought. Oversall looks good and the duffel opening is definitely the most interesting, but I prefer my Decathlon Escape 500 which offers all the above features at a lower price point.
I own the Escape 500, 24 L version. But I don't like the 32L version that much, it get's really fat imo. I also own a Travel 40L also from Decathlon, but you can easily fit 50L in it, and it's more a camping like backpack, wich I love for a multidestination travels and roadtrips, it has a lot of compartments but without packing cubes your tech can be on the loose. But I feel like I need something in between, so I am considering this tomtoc with the black friday discount
I have this bag and I like it, I made a review on it while back on my channel. They say you can do 3-5 days on this bag, I just used it on a 7 day trip and worked perfect.
Finally a real review on this! I almost got it before my recent trip, but decided to pay 5x as much for an Aer Travel Pack. I had the budget to pay more but this looks like a great value and I’ve suggested it to friends already.
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! I do think this is a great budget friendly option, but glad to hear you got the aer travel pack, definitely one of my top 2 or 3!
Hello could you please make a review on the newer inatech 42 l bag and the 38.5-46 l extendable ? Would be interesting to see how they compare to the tomtoc. Thank you :)
I have been looking for a bag to carry my laptop and CPAP machine together since TSA will check both without fail. Previously I had them in different places, laptop in my carry on luggage and CPAP in its own bag. Thanks for your review which helped reinforce my own reasons for purchasing. The luggage handle pass thru is an awesome feature for how I travel. Also, I did find a small seatbelt covering for the unpadded side handle.
Load lifters would be a nice touch for a 40L bag, but hey, I guess you can't get everything for this price. Still seems like a pretty damn decent travel bag for 80 bucks.
So looking at these bags now they do not have or show the top loading feature. I think I may opt out of these because everywhere I look (Amazon, BH, Google) this 40L bag no longer has a top loading feature or they don’t show it which from a marketing POV is bad.
I'm considering a tomtoc 40L Travel Backpack but hesitating as it does not appear to come with the option of a hip belt. Can a hip belt made by another company (e.g. Aer) be adapted for use on this tomtoc bag? If not, do you have any other suggestions?
I don't know if this is a good question for a travel backpack, but would this backpack be okay for everyday use? I'm in postgraduate degree and always carry a pencil case, a plastic pouch, a sketchbook (art studies) and a laptop with its hefty charger, I suppose if I tightened the straps it would be much less bulky and meet these needs. My main concern would be its durability, given its daily use and the Laptop protecrion, while also having a backpack for long travels like an all in one backpack.
I'm becoming a big fan of TomToc. Great bags at great prices. Osprey use to have decent prices, not anymore. :( The Farpoint 40 went from $73.00>$184.00! No Sale Osprey! :(
That's interesting because I got a 20L bag from Tomtoc that would be the equivalent of the Aer Flight Pack configuration (also 20L) and it definitely fit way less than the Aer. To be honest, it seems like it barely packed out as much as my 14L Aer City Pack, so I guess these just pack smaller than the advertised weight. That being said, still seem like great bags that punch a bit above their price.
Thank you for watching! Both are great bags, for travel as a primary use case I think this one can work better as it can hold a little more and it’s easier to pack, but overall I prefer the surge as it has better laptop protection and can work better as a daily bag
Thank you for watching! It’s going to be fairly close on many airlines and I would expect to have to put this in the overhead if it’s really packed out, so I think it can potentially work on larger airlines but it’s pretty risky
@@dannypacks I travel with an Away Bigger Carry On so my backpack needs to be a personal item. But I like the price and function of the Tomtoc for additional packing space. Maybe to hold a jacket and some extra clothes.
Thank you for watching! I think you could get away with it on certain larger airlines but on most I would say this is a little closer to carry on / overhead storage size
Thank you for watching! I would say you might be able to fit this under the seat in some planes, but I would consider mainly a carryon that would go in the overhead compartment
Thank you for watching and that’s a fair point! I wanted to show the size of the compare to with the wallet but I agree you shouldn’t be walking around a city with your passport in an easy to access compartment
Well, hearing you saying at @5:15 "In my case I actually use this to hold ......wallet ..." I took it as you mean it that in your case this is where you put this wallet etc.. anyhow... exposed pockets is a big no for security. @@dannypacks
Amazon black Friday deal for around $68 right now. Bought it based on your review, thank you!

Thank you for watching and definitely good features to consider for a travel bag, I’ll have to check out the decathalon bag you mentioned!
Have you gone thru TSA no problem? Or do you get stopped for the dimensions. To pass it off as a personal bag
@@convoludedduded5086 The height is not that different from a backpack, it is much deeper. But it is smaller than a rollaway bag.

I’m totally pulling the trigger on this one! Awesome
Value.
Thank you for watching and I agree!
I love this bag I went on a 4 day cruise it was all I needed!

A hi-vis interior lining would have made this bag even better.
and pricier

I have my TomToc A82 for over a year. I have taken in 5 or 6 trips, and it is by far the best travel backpack I ever owned.

The Farpoint seems heavy/bulky and this blends more in, a small waist strap would be nice
Thank you for watching and I agree on the aesthetic! Definitely blends in nicely
Maybe I use vacuum storage bag for it. I can have way more space. Plus I hope can go through TSA when travel oversea
Excellent informative review.

Thank you for watching and I agree, tomtoc is bringing some great bags at good price points!
Do you think this would work as a travel backpack and then when you get to your destination it could cinch down and become a day hiking backpack?
Thank you for watching! Its not ideal due to the size and layout of the bag but I think you make it work especially with the comfort of the harness
Would be amazing to see a comparison between this and the quechua nh 500
Don't you miss a waist belt? I would think that at 40l you could build up some weight that can be tough on the shoulders without a waist belt.
Thank you for watching! Although a waist belt can be helpful for a bag this size, I still prefer not to use them
I have this bag for over 3 months now. great minimalist bag but defo not a 40l back. more like a 30l one. other than that good value for money.
