I love collaborations; we get to see our UA-cam friends as they really are, not in their scripted, produced and edited form. Nicely intimate. Thanks heaps.
A few months ago there was an open day at KM yacht construction. I went there then and my 13-year-old son was also allowed to weld a piece of TIG. Most of the boats you've seen were there then. It's great to see distant shores proudly displaying the build of their boat here in my home country. And it touches me that you speak such beautiful words about the Netherlands and the craftsmanship it has. thank you..
We absolutely loved our time there! And all the people at KB and KM were so kind and welcoming to us. We're hoping that if we make it to METS again next year, we'll be able to do another tour. 😃
Celeste tell her hello she is one of my most favorite, individuals in the entire sailing world I love this girl I think she's remarkable and I admire her for her
Thank you Matt & Jessica, KB Alubouw, KM Yachtbuilders and Paul and Sheryl Shard, for this opportunity and realisation in another great MJ Sailing video. You did well to pack as much in, whilst keeping it relaxed. I wonder if you will consider another aluminium boat in the future, that Dutch/NL skill is not cheap, but very well worth it.
Great video, things have changed a lot in my country of birth since I left 71 years ago for Canada. Some wonderful images of great workmanship, but just remember as you work on yours you can be equally proud of what you two are and have accomplished. Stay warm, be happy.
Thank you so much for the kind words!! We're so happy each night when we leave the tent, after what we've accomplished that day, and also excited for what is yet to come. 😍
I have noticed that places that are so cold that it takes a build or a barn to construct boats are the best boat builders in the world. Perhaps it is more about the barn than the boat.
Yes, Holland, and, most of Europe is very cold during the winter and early spring. Having spent 7 yrs as an US Army dependent while my dad was stationed in Germany, but his particular skill took him all over the Continent. Great memories in Germany. I would love to tour these boat yards the Dutch have.
Something a little different and a big AWESOME! Thanks, this was fun! Don't worry, Jess, you're in good company with your welding prowess. A lifetime ago when I was in the Navy the welders on board worked for me and I would mess around in the welding booth from time to time but most of my attempts looked pretty similar to yours.... 😆
I feel like if I had a glove and helmet which were more my size, I could have done just a little bit better, haha. But I think I'll stick to fiberglassing for the moment.
Beautiful boats and the manufacturing layout is so clean and efficient. I'm truly impressed. Thanks for taking us along. I've been welding for years and have been certified both above and below water. I don't consider myself a welder. I take real talent to become one with metal. So, for the first strike of a arc, you did just fine.
In the 70’s I worked on an old 86 foot wooden king crab boat and one summer I helped put on a new Aluminum bow and it already had a steel stern. I got weld burns in my eyes ouch! I love your channel and adventures.
We love everything about them. 😍 We had dinner aboard a BEAUTIFUL one up in Orkney Scotland when we cruised there a few years ago, but unfortunately the owners did not want it on camera.
Those 2 boat yards were absolutely fascinating! What great boats they are turning out... I would hate to have to do the gel coat, though! I had to look up EarleWrites to see who the British lady was - what a beautiful voice she has, imo! Captain Lizbef, apparently,
Seeing all that aluminum blew me away. If you know the cost of panels of it, it is SUPER expensive IF you can get it. What beautiful boats they are building.
I ❤aluminium boats. I would also ❤to know the prices included please. What happened to your aluminium boat? What’s “Odd Life” the French couple doing there?
What's the relationship between the final displacement of a boat and the material that it's made of and the amount of cargo/equipment it can carry? If a boat like that aluminum boat were built in steel and another in fiberglass, would the hull shape vary between each boat that they would each carry a similar load?
For all you Greenies in this group Aluminum doesn't occur naturally in the environment - it has to be created using a mineral called bauxite. Like oil, aluminum is a limited resource and inefficient to produce. It takes approximately 20 tons of bauxite to make 1 ton of aluminum.
Didn't you say a few weeks ago that you didn't like aluminium boats (given your previous experience) and prefer to contribute to the pollution problem with GRP boats ?
Back in the 80's a home builder built a powercat out of Aluminium. This is sadly pre YT so although there is a lot of photos and some video not the step by step interesting videos that you produce. It took him 5 years and is 100 foot long and still doing charters down in Mexico.
Yeah, that WHOLE saga was awesome - 5 years of hard graft then cutting it up for transport and welding the sections back together ... Guy's a krazy genius!
Do y’all feel any shame in advertising scams that have paid you out ? Lord and ladies with cheap knives…. ? Not that I’d buy anything so worthless but others may to support y’all….. plus if I was a legitimate company say like Jamestown/ total boat I’d rethink tying my name to UA-cam’ers that don’t do their Due diligence
Do you feel any shame in getting mad at youtube people? Over a product that was obviously a gag gift? Does the fact that the fancy paper you get in the mail doesn't actually make you a lord keep you awake at night? That was to upsetting for you? Cry harder my guy. ya keyboard warrior.
@@cheifruth7293 oh that’s just a small part of it, there’s all kind of of this crap all these channels are hocking… take the cheaply made knives they hock has “made in Japanese tradition” which are made from crap steel in China..so now go simp on them some more..
It is also for consumers to due their due diligence, caveat emptor and all that. They also stopped promoting these items when they became aware and they were among many you tubers promoting these same items. In some ways bringing these things more into public perception has made it easier to discredit them.

Welcome to our country. We are not that big, but great in building boats
Yes, you certainly are great at building boats!! We really hope to be back next year. 🥰
And very welcoming

Thanks for taking us along.

Is this the yard that is building Distant Shores 3? What a great example of how to do hospitality. :-)
Wow great video and great memories from a fun visit to Makkum! ❤😊 thanks from Paul and Sheryl of Distant Shores
Best video yet!
This comment makes my day. 🥰 I worked so hard on this video, I'm glad to know it's appreciated.

Welding is no joke! It takes a lot of skill, and burned retinas are awful! One of the guys at the marina here did that last year.
@@MJSailing Thankfully I was better in a few days lesson learned
Holy Smokes!! That was an Incredible tour. Thanks so much for that!! Now, hurry up and get back to doing Fiberglass LOL
Matt obviously not just living the dream, he’s in the dream. Fun visit to Bestevear yachts - they look amazing.
J&M Thanks for bringing us along on your tour of these builders. Beautiful work, theirs and your video. Inspirational for you, I am sure.
My god that interior was beautiful
I love reliving all of this!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the tour
Really glad you enjoyed it. 😍
Can't wait for you guys to start working on your boat.
BIG changes coming in next week's episode! 😍
this is my favorit boat... just so spot on

Hi from Florida. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks and Be Safe.
Thank you so much! Happy holidays to you as well!! 🎄
We still have some great stuff and some great people over here in the old world 😉
What a great day you lucky people

Captain Lizbif is one of my new best friends, I love her so much!! 😍
@@MJSailingKinda sexy
Lizbef was one part of the girl crew on Delos when they sailed from Cape Town to Brazil.
Good going to reach out to all the other interesting boat stuff especially with your understanding of the process, adds interest to your channel
Thank you so much!! That makes me very happy to hear. I'm glad you enjoyed this episode. ☺
Highly unlikely I'll ever be able to afford one of their products but would love to visit them one day!
Yeah, they should start chartering them for us normies, haha.
Wow! -- QUESTION -- What is the sailboat @00:30? Looks fantastic and of high qualitity. Stunning actually.
Good video. 👍👍👍 Have a great day. 😊 Greetings. 😎
You do such a good job bringing this world to us.. thanks.
Awwwww, man! I wanna visit the aluminum boat yards... I plan to build an aluminum catamaran/trimaran for the El Cano challenge...
beautifully done video

Good video guys. Can you tell me what your opening and closing music is, i love it.
It's 'Pandemoniuim - Tribute Version' by Mondays ft. Hannah Stone ua-cam.com/video/tp1zhEEJxew/v-deo.html&ab_channel=MusicCity

Yes, that is Elizabeth from Delos!
