All the videos in this series are a great resource for judo teachers. Thank you so much Kodokan!!
This is a very helpful video series and a great resource for all Judoka! Thank you so much for making this specific video series, as this will help to settle many debates about technique classification.
Excellent side by side description. Arrigato!
Muy bueno!
De libro!! (de hecho, me ha facilitado visualizar las instrucciones de mi libro)
This was great, thank you
As far as I can see there the same throw but one blocks the ankle and the other just below the knee
It’s been 50 years since I practised Judo but my recollection is that the sasae has a greater emphasis on the lift, with less of a lateral step , blocking the advancing foot. Hiza Guruma emphasises the sideways step, to “whirl” one’s opponent, using the knee like a fulcrum.
Sasae: Like if you extended a cord over the ground and made uke run, trip their foot on the cord and fall forward like that. The lifting tsurikomi motion plus the pull forward simulate running.
Hiza: Like if you tied a cord around uke's knee, keeping them from stepping forward or bending the knee to recover, then pulled uke forward making them rotate around the cord.
If you try to do sasae without the tsurikomi motion uke will just step over your block by bending their knee: they need to be moving too fast and without good contact with the ground to keep them from doing it. And if you try to do hiza without blocking the knee uke will just step over your block, again by bending the knee: you need to physically block them from doing so with your leg.

Hello! What happened to the Kodokan Institute website?
Nice
Great
膝車は奥足、支え釣り込み足は前足に使うって認識で合ってますかね?

こんにちは!講道館のウェブサイトはどうなりましたか?
footage is nice, but explanation is lacking. the foot placement on the knee/ankle is the least important distinction between these two throws.
I think its wheeling/ rotating nature of guruma throw vs. sharply and forcefully stopping advance of the ukes foot in sasae.
@Don_SamRaz I think Sasae means stopping, Guruma is wheeling.
Well, that is the exact distinction described by the late Daigo-sensei. Other details, e.g. to stop the advancing foot to perform Sasae-tsuri-goshi („Uke stumbles over“) or attacking the far leg of Uke in Hiza-guruma, seem to outline the application in Randori/Shiai. In the technical japanese description even the same word for the action of toris foot is used for BOTH throws: sasaeru (supporting/holding; which in his meaning is more than simple „blocking“). It is indeed often unclear where the Kodokan switches or distinguish from basic principle to application or vice versa. PS/sidenote: they mentioned „lifting“ (??) Uke forward within Kake of Sasae in the Video, Daigo-sensei doesn‘t mention that anywhere. Maybe again a problem with translation or language Interpretation.
@@dirksuhling9927 Sasae tsurikomi ashi obviously requires a tsurikomi action.

а разница то в чём?...
柔道における技の相違で最難関じゃないですか?🤔
