- In this video I diagnose and fix a Mk7 (2009) Transit van that fails to start when left overnight.
This turns out to be a fault with the fuel filter holder and pipework.

Nice one Andy. Another brilliant slow burner video. I was surprised at the appearance of a third hand at 7.34. 😀 p.s. There's not much in life that can't be improved with a good dollop of Vaseline.😀👍🏼
I don't know what to make videos on now as I have sold the van !!!!
Afternoon Andy
Another instructive video.
Take care Andy.
Cheers, Huw
PS Full watch as ever
Legend as always 👍
Thanks, I think this is the problem on my 2.0tdci Ford galaxy
Thanks for the videos. I'm guessing that you probably wouldn't get a code come up if the filter housing was the problem, is that correct ? I've got a fuel pump code on my Mk6 but really want to rule out anything else that could be the problem.
No codes at all. It just lets the air in slowly and the fuel heads to the tank. Also worthwhile checking the return connections on the injectors they have rubber seals in them. And then check Cam and crank sensors.
Good job! Really good idea th vaseline
Yes a little trick to stop air getting in
Hello Andy, big thanks for the video. Do diesel pumps go bad often on these MK7 TDCi transits?? Are the prone to fail??
Thanks
No not normally, it's the same engine as the Peugeot boxer. The areas prone to failing are the pcv and SCV. Check those first cheaper than a pump
great video. Can you give any advise on my mk 8 transit. as nobody can find the problem not even fords. Mine is a 2016 no issue with starting from cold or even hot sometimes. I can go for a drive turn it off then come back say 5 mins later and it will be a hit or miss if it starts. it will crank over but will not start or it seems like the battery is going to die. leave it for say 5 mins and it will start.
Look at fuel temperature sensors it sounds like it. Although that's just a wild guess 👌
I've got a problem with my exact same van . It starts first time and runs sweet. But when i give it some revs whilst driving it will rattle a die and leave me stranded. Got a lift back from the AA and they sent a machanic along. Before he came i Tried the van and it started instantly. I don't want to be stranded again as I've already lost a days money. I've done what you said and the filter was full ( there a pain to force back in the housing) i also fitted an aftermarket fuel bleed pump which is brilliant. Some people say on here that it most likely the fuel regulator on the end of the pump? I don't want to chuck money at it all the time so do you have any information that would help me out ? I live in the sticks so its a journey to take to a garage and there too expensive these days . Probably charge me £400 just to change this £70 part . Guy on UA-cam said this part needs to be coded to the van ? Never heard that before only on keys and shit . Thanks.
Have you thought about the SCV and PCV ? If they need changing then they need coding in. Have a Google for them it will maybe help you out.
👍

your sucking air past that poxy ford system rip the housing off convert it to a lucas cav peugot mount the problem goes away (Magic welsh hack
Yep that's a good fix
Hi can you post a link to this conversion as im having similar issues? Would be much appreciated Thank you.
the only answer to this issue is to do away with that stupid ford collar system and go back to what has worked perfectly for years take the example of a pug 306 diesel it has a proper screw on filter on to what I have allways know as a cav mount I believe the 405 uses the same mount as well its a bit of a fiddle but i got it to work first time and it stopped all the air leaks @@JFSR_777 I also fitted a little bulb hand pump to fist prime the filter and the pump
Im sorry i dont have a video or pics of this I did it before youtube was thought of sorry it is not difficult to do a little fiddly with the change of pipes and fittings but take your time and it really is quite straight forward
