A fat zero from me. In my defence, I was 5 by the end of the 60s and my favourite song, which I played ad nauseum, was The Wonderful Thing about Tiggers. I can't be your only follower who's hanging out now for a Prog quiz to make us all feel better.
Barry, I liked the quiz format, and would love to see more of this from you, but please consider including one or two easier questions to keep the slower members of the class engaged. (I was 0/10). 😂
I agree. We need easier ones, like a track that only exists on the single pressing of an LP which existed for five minutes in the Gobi desert. We might stand a chance then…
I got five, including the first four after which I was thinking 'I'm going to get most of these', then I only got one more! Number 7 was mildly frustrating as I love that album but I couldn't place it. Also, I need to listen to the John Martyn and Jefferson Airplane albums more. Good quiz, a tough one that I enjoyed. Cheers and Happy New Year.
I scored 11 out of 20. The last one was the easiest ! Not always a comfortable listen but it is on a great album, between 2 amazing tracks (Ballad of you and me pouneil and Young Girl Sunday Blues) and only a minute and a half long - so I have never skipped it !
Thanks Barry for this little blind test... I expected to be good but I found only Free (Oh I Wept is my favorite song of Fire & Water, their best album) and John Martyn (I'm a great fan, I've got everything from him). So it was difficult !
Ha ha! Kneel before me, mortals! Because I got all - er, all of one of them right… And I knew that because I once played with the drummer from that band for one song during a gig.
I scored (drum roll.....) half out of ten! I recognised Jesamine from a compilation I own but couldn't remember the group. Having revealed my feeble score I do enjoy quizzes so happy for you to do more of them.
I knew Jesamine by The Casuals because it is a great record (What a Falsetto that guy has). I also knew the BeeGees one because I am a big fan of their early stuff too (Kilburn Towers, Morning of my Life and New York Mining Disaster are my favourites).
Crown of Creation is the Airplane's best album, IMHO.. BTW, the song is called "A Small Package of Value Will Come to You Shortly", which I hum to myself every time I get an Amazon notification... The only two I got right were the Airplane and the Dead. I've HEARD of most of the other bands, of course, but did not recognize the songs.

I got the small faces and supergrass. I recognized john martin but didn't know the track. Bit annoyed with myself that I didn't get fleet foxes cause I loved that album when it came out.
I correctly identified 7 out of 10 bands, and I guessed the correct song titles for 6 of them. However, I missed 2, which I don’t consider Classic Rock: Supergrass and Fleet Foxes. Of course, everyone has a different idea of what Classic Rock is. The Casuals one was really tough. Even though I have that album, the song and band completely eluded me.
I’m very much of a classic rock age and I fancy myself as pretty good at this sort of thing but evidently not: I recognized the first one as Free but didn’t get the song but I immediately knew Jesamine by The Casuals and the Small Faces Whatcha Gonna Do About It. After that I was lost until I recognised Mr Martyn’s inimitable tones but sadly not the song, despite owning a copy of that album. Got the first two, thought this is would be a breeze and started giving myself a premature pat on the back for being such a rock afficianado that I believe that I am, then I crashed and burned. Got the John Martyn later on, but hopeless with the rest. Really like the sound of that 'Dead song, will seek it out. Great that Barry triumphs Free, my favourite band ever. He's right that they were lauded as much as Zep once upon a time, but they've gradually drifted to the outer margins of worth in the recent decades. Maybe because they never had a distinct enough image that these increasingly shallower times demand. Anyway, check them out if you don't know them already!
Small Faces instantly recognisable (possibly the only one on the list that was a chart record?) and knew the Free and Bee Gees tracks but couldn't remember what they were called!
Another big fan of Jesamine here. Great song. I have some distant memory of the band being winners on Opportunity knocks - the X factor of it's day. No wonder they only had one hit. Par for the course. 😂

At the start, I thought I might get half, but I was shut out. I mean - not even close to getting one. I usually do fairly well with “name the tune and artist” trivia. I am humbled. It was fun though.
I got 3 but many of these were extremely deep cuts from the psychedelic pop era from late 60's early 70's sans the Fleet Foxes and Supergrass. Love that first song by Free. One of my fav songs by them. Got the Dead song instantly but I'm no Dead head.
I got 2 right: Small Faces and Bee Gees. "Red Chair" is from their debut (US) LP, August 1967. The Electric Prunes' debut LP (1966) had "Bangles" on it. Their "Mass" LP came later - maybe 3rd, maybe 4th. Their 2nd LP was "Underground", which I bought new, and thought all of it sounded alike - except for its single, which I bought, called "Dr. Do-Good".
