    I use a 7'6" medium light extra fast action with a quarter ounce frog from a kayak with GREAT success.

      I’m new and about to get a rod and reel, and I’m unsure if I should go with medium heavy or medium light because medium light sounds like it might break easy where as medium heavy sounds sturdy

      A good all-purpose is a 6’6-7ft Medium. As you progress and get different rods for different purposes you may want a MH that can handle almost anything you’d catch in freshwater, and an Ultralight which can make trout and panfish become a fun fight

    Love this man! I actually wouldn’t consider myself a beginner per say but I am a beginner to more different power/action rods I just for my first ever Medium powe Fast action rod and my main goal is to use it for treble hook hairs I really love how light it is and how much more bend there is would you say it will do well for me?

    thank you for the great advice! but i was wondering if these baits and techniques apply to a Med Heavy fast action spinning rod as well ? just started fishing in June and want to be sure i’m going prepared and not throwing whatever looks good 😅

      I say yes. Don't buy a bait caster because they are popular. I love my Shimano FJ Sustain spinning reel. I am often tempted to buy a bait caster but I know I don't need it.

      I like to fish both. But fish what you enjoy fishing with. Becsuse it all boils down to the individual having a good time. It's all about having fun so use whatever is appropriate to umyou having g a good time. The main reason i bought a baitcasterwas when I got hit by a huge bass right before pulling my spinnerbait back out of water for another cast. She grabbed it and ran straight yo the center of the pond, changed directions and ran straight back towards me. I couldn't keep up with her. Lost a monster and promised never again. Got a longer, stouter jig rod and a Shimano slx xt. $130 but well worth it.

    Thanks this helped me. I subbed too

    One thing I really scratch my head over is seeing bass anglers with multiple rods. I use only 1 fishing rod and reel for all my inshore saltwater fishing. Also, there is a plethora of different fish species I can catch with my 1 medium fast action rod for saltwater when bass anglers have multiple rods for the same species of fish. I just don't get why a bass Angler needs 5 to 9 rods. Why not use 1 rod?

      Different line, size, and uses. My baitcaster has fluorocarbon, which isn't recommended for anything topwater. I use it for texas, wacky/neko, etc.Then i have a spinning with braid, typically have a topwater lure on. Just more efficient for me and I mainly bank fish.

    • @JD_Fishing
      @JD_Fishing  Рік тому

      A lot of it comes down to just plain efficiency. In the profession I’m in 1 fish can mean the difference in making a living and not. So having the right tools and saving as much time as possible is what it’s all about. I might have 6 rods on deck but it might be two sets of 3 that have the same lures on them for just slightly different situations. That way I don’t have to change anything or re tie

      Also its easier to switch out lures if youre covering water from the bank using multiple rods since you wanna use multiple lures in each spot
