    Hi lovely creatures! 🫶
First of all - sorry about the sound! There's an echo because I had to record this quite spontaneously! 😇💁‍♀️
Secondly - I have a mosquito bite on my face - and I was quite mortified to realise that it's quite obvious in the video! See if you can spot it ;-) haha! 🐜
Today I've got some BUSINESS English for you! I've been doing some work in the big city LONDON and I've had plenty of opportunities to overhear some great language in use today! 🤭🫢👂
This will be very useful if you work with natives, or if you are about to relocate to the U.K/have already relocated/are living in the U.K right now! 🤗🇬🇧
I hope you find it useful! Let me know in the comments if so! I’ll do my best to reply to each comment 🤗
Take care everyone and keep smiling! Don’t give up 💪

Hi Katharine, I just watched your video and I must say, I'm genuinely impressed with the way you've presented business English phrases. It's a subject I find very interesting and you've made it incredibly accessible and engaging. Your personal touch, like mentioning the mosquito bite, adds a delightful charm to the learning experience. Please keep creating videos like this - your content is not only informative but also a joy to watch. Can't wait to see what you'll share next

Hi my most lovely, my friday sunbeam, my bundle of joy and happiness! 🤗🌞😊
Let's get the ball rolling! Thanks first for touching base anew with us with this magnificent lesson and keeping us in the loop with these business expressions. I was hardly surprised you were remarked and solicited for your voice which is a real delight and real honey for the listener's eardrums and that's really great that you can apparently branch out in this other activity. There is a lot of scope here for you and hopefully they will soon call on you for dubbing series, films or cartoons. Let's hope it wouldn't take all your time though otherwise many here would be back to the drawing board with their English ;-)
I noticed we're often on the page my sweetie and the bottom line is that I love you more and more.
It wasn't so easy to use them all in a non-buisness context. I hope I didn't forget one and I didn't do too bad ...
Up until now, we've been used to seeing you in pretty, colorful dresses, but I have to say that this black blouse suits you just as well and highlights your complexion and hair beautifully- you are luminous!
Hope to see ya asap for a new great lesson,
Thank you so much my Katherine, bisous bisous, Love 😘🌹❤

I like the phrasal verb 'branch out' which I had previously learnt with Sabrah. This is this kind of verb that conveys a great imagery indeed, and here that of a tree indeed whose branches are growing and progressing/developping/extending. But maybe still more, it seems to me that it also conveys the idea of diversification and therefore for me, the best synonym would be 'diversify' perhaps especially in that business context. What do you think? ...

It seems to me that you had a field day instead of
a (regular) day at the office , but that 's perfectly okay of course.
    A scope for ..
(To be awfully precise here ..)
According to my (Oxford ) OED Dictionary
    - scope - comes form the GREEK word " skopos" , meaning "target " in
this context (A scope for) .
The meaning you used , also exists ,but in a different context -
deriving from GREEK as well , "skopein" , meaning " look at " (tele-scope).

    Hi from central Spain, teacher.
I've never been in the UK but I love to listen English everyday on the internet.
It's the first time I see the acronym "a-sap", so I guess that, although accepted in spoken informal BrE, should not be used in formal writting nor while doing a job interview.
    What do you think?
The only ones which I've previously heard a lot are "to see eye to eye" and "to be on the same page".
For all the others expresions, even being now the first time I heard them, I find some of these very intuitive and easy to understand their meaning even before you started to explain, as for instance "to get the ball rolling", "keep me in the loop", "all the bells and whistles", "to be back to the drawing board", "back to square one" and "to branch out".

    • @englishwithkatharine
      @englishwithkatharine  6 місяців тому +2

Yes, a-sap is for speaking. In writing it would just be the usual acronym of asap. 👍

We use use the same business English too in the USA. We have to because we are talking (through Teams meetings and telephone) and writing (email and snail mail) with different entities in at least ten different states. We have to be clear, concise, and to the point. Imaging talking to 20 people with 20 different accents. Believe it or not, we have to speak in phonetically controlled accents; this is heavenly influenced by management. We reduce idioms the indirect voice as much as possible. The business English on both sides of the Atlantic (not the Pond) consist of the active voice.
