Maybe I did it wrong but I just halved the original height of 27' and went with that. Turned out 13' was very close to your final number. I erred on the conservative side as it turned out so another foot on that pole would have done no harm. Greetings from Oz, albeit a bit late :-)
I found ilevel still on my phone so I am guessing I used it. I had to get on the ground and look down the side of my phone as i tilted it up to the tree to eye ball the angle.
Had that quote on a shirt with a dirt bike coming off a jump when I was a kid haha

I used an angle measuring tool from my app store. I don't remember whitch one, but you could just use a protractor.
