There is one thing that people forget to speak about that fuels the fake generator videos. It is that simply moving a magnet over a coil is not the whole picture. If you draw a current from the coil, there will be a magnetic force that resists the movement of the magnet. This force is proportional to the electrical energy generated. So basically if you draw power from a generator the shaft gets harder and harder to turn. It basically is a motor you are fighting against. That is why if you car is idling and you turn on a big load it slows the engine down. I would add this comment to fake videos, but I don't want to give them views. Please can you explain this when you do your fake buster video. Keep up the good work.

@@t.i.m.e.3419 not sure exactly what point you are trying to make there with that analogy. Although technically you make toast by cooking bread. Energy wise, you cannot get more electrical energy out of a generator than the mechanical energy you put in. Infact the output will always be slightly less than the input. No matter which way it is sliced or diced that is an immovable fact.

@@sw793 The analogy is popular here. It means that there is always another way. To be sure, Lenz's Law exists. But is moving a coil past a magnet the only way to produce a dynamic current?

Great video! But I think the bottom set of diodes in your main rectifier are backwards...they shouldnt allow the stator coils to discharge any current to ground.

There are only four principle methods of production able to be used to generate dynamic electric energy. They are:
    1. Pass a coil of wire over a magnetic field.
    2. Pass a magnetic field over a coil of wire.
    3. Energise or de-energise an electro-magnet in the presence of a coil of wire.
    4. Change the polarity of an elecro-magnet in the presence of a coil of wire.
The first three principles are all subject to Lenz's law as they involve moving a mass. (The third is linked to the mass of the core and, though static, is essentially a moving mass, as the primary field has to collapse completely before re-energising in the opposite direction). The last method is also a static method, whose induction power is limited only by switching speed and topography.

A lot of newer cars use permanent magnet alternators and then use switching power supplies to regulate the voltage as it turns out to be more efficient. That's especially common when the alternator doubles as the starter motor.
Also, the part where you're hammering on it trying to get it apart reminds me of Linguoer doing that on the motors and generators she rebuilds.

Sir does the concept of alternator is the same as the commercial genset? Please have some video of that because I am confuse where did the rotor of genset gets its power to induce a current to stator then in turn generate AC output.
    BTW it is informative content.👊😎

    Thank you for the video,
    Just a quick question,
the rotor needs to see some voltages on the slip rings to get voltage out of the alternator. I assume that voltage is coming from the battery. What happens if the battery is completely dead? Even if rotate the rotor, we won’t get any voltage, right?
    Thanks

Older alternators are very simple, haven't changed much since the 60's and only about 50-60% efficient, I
I need to build a few custom voltage regulators for a few alternators, I need to be able to adjust the output, with a pot, from 13.9v-14.2v to about 28.8- 29v, at full power unloaded, open circuit, I have heard output can be near 1000volts, killing the diodes in the 3phase rectifier, I need to be capable of charging 12and 24v batteries, I'm building a dc generator, with Delco 21si alternators , I have two 130 amp versions, and. Two 150 amp versions, I also have a 28si ,, they are easy to rebuild, and modify, I have a 10 or 12si I'm going to modify for use as a wind turbine, with a small neodymium magnet to self start, then self power the field coil, hopefully self regulating the speed, connect the field with possibly a 1-2 ohm 2kw resistor, to lower the voltage slightly on the field coil, it will take a bit if experimenting to get it working properly, hopefully it will generate around 500watts in a moderate wind and as much as 1500 watts in a storm, but most likely it will do about 100-150w in moderate wind and 400-500 watts in a storm, they are designed to spin about 4x engine speed, so at idle it's about 1500 rpm, and at 6k rpm engine speed, the alternator is really spinning, so it will likely do about 1/4 the rated output at best, I'm thinking the 28siwill be the first I mod yo do 12-24v for a gas dc generator, since it has dual internal fans! And I can spin it at 3k rpm engine speed, with a 5-8 JP engine, it's 5hp I will probably modify it to get a bit more power, 3600-3800 rpm max, possibly add a small oil pump and cooler, with a squirter, to lube and cool the bore and piston! Along with a added oil supply, around 4qts along with a filter, allowing long run times between oil changes, possibly adding a electric leaf blower with pwm motor controller to help cool the alternator and engine, it will be charging batteries at my off grid home, it could run all day, or a couple days at a time, I may end up using a larger engine, with more over drive ratio on the pulleys, to allow the engine to spin around 1500-1800 rpm, and quieter, a engine running like that for hours to days, gets old FAST! I'll probably build a sound deadening room or enclosure to keep it quiet, this is why the electric leaf blower would help with cooling, running at about 30-50% speed, also introducing fresh air, sorry im rambling again, thanks for all the great videos!! 🙃

    • @ELECTRONOOBS

At the end of the video I mention taht by cahnging the voltage applied to the electromagnet, we can change the magnetic field force and by taht,m the output power. So if the engine speed is too high, we just lower the voltage at the electromagnet proportionally.

So. My car is an 02. And it i guess only runs the alternator when a certain voltage is detected or whatever.
Can i install something that. So to say tricks the "car computer /sensor " so that upon start up and untill engine shut off. The alternator will run the entire time, instead of only when a specific voltage is read.?
Example lets say that my cars slternator. Kicks on upon tje car detecting a voltage level of 11 volts and turns off the alternstor when thr voltage reads 13 or above 12v.
I am wanting to know if its possible, to wire in something. That from engine start to engine off the car always sees an 11v. Thus resulting in. The alternator always producing an output while tje engine is runi

I think your explanation of the armature coils is incorrect, ( or maybe I’m missing something) … I believe your theory would require more input watts on the armature than you would get as output on the stator…. I believe the hunk of metal (non laminated) in the armature is using hysteresis to induce a current in the stator for output.. and voltage in the armature is used ( as a dc motor)to use any excess voltage you would normally get on the stator output .. Basically, I think it’s a mechanical regulator that does not waste the gas engine power, by reducing hysteresis and output on the stator….
    - I think the idea is: 1 brushless motor mechanically and electrically coupled to second one. The first generates, while the second regulates the effectiveness of the first.
