  • In this video I build and test a homemade wing for the back of a car. This wing is in no way supposed to be effective it is just a fun project!

    Super cool project. I wouldn't have thought the little motors would react that quickly but they seem to turn to air brake mode quite fast. Very well done.

    I'm wondering if this could be available as a kit? I run into issues with my car's rear getting loose under heavy braking at the track. I think I could shave some seconds off my lap times with something like this

    • @samklare1088

      I would first recommend replacing your factory shocks with Bilstein shocks. I went to Bilstein shocks three years ago and have seen all that life has to offer since. Simply life changing.

      @@samklare1088 What an excellent suggestion Mr. Klare. I too am yearning to get more out of life (and of course shave some seconds off my lap times) and I think some Bilstein shocks might be a great place to start

    • @antolivdiaz
      @antolivdiaz 3 роки тому +6

      Yea bro this might be an issue of a wrong braking technique since when you brake all the weight of the car goes to the front and makes you lose grip at the back, or in most cases you might need the rear suspension to be a little stiffer to keep the weight shifting more balanced and keep it planted

    • @jibranandnajmi
      @jibranandnajmi 2 роки тому +1

      Yeah man would love to see this as a kit, whatever it does to your lap times would look sick AF on a street car too if done nicely.

    That is so awesome! It reminds me of the air brake on a McLaren 765lt. You're right about that carbon fibre vinyl! It might also have helped the drag coefficient once you hit 180mph 🤣. In wing mode, you need the endplates on the sides to get the sick vortices and less drag. But it's way cooler and more practical as primarily an air brake, and you've nailed it. It would be great to get some data and run experiments like distance to stop from different speeds.
    Better yet, the data from a whole active aero package with front spoiler/splitter that descends dynamically and radiator louvres that react to temperature and airflow. Better ground effect with flat panels under the body and active suspension to dynamically lower the body closer to the ground, and whatever else everyone can come up with. The fuel savings would definitely pay for the modifications in one to two lifetimes max! 🤣
    You may need to find a different vehicle, though, because more than suction cups might be necessary.😆 By the way, shout out to those suction cups!! They are hardcore!
    Great work Michael! Keep it up!

    Mr Rechtin , unreal work and great video - congratulations ! I'm reading the other comments - maybe there is a substantial commercial opportunity there for you . I shudder to think about the legal costs in protecting yourself though . If you trust your suction caps enough or maybe use nuts and bolts and put a few holes in your car , I'd love to see how it goes at 150 kays per hour or more . I'm guessing that there would be a pile of down force and braking there .

    The way you have connected the servos is a call for disaster. You should not be able to move it by hand as this would tear the gears down or blow the servo electronics.
    You need worm gears, thus you would be able to control it from servo part but not able to move it due to wind/hand pushing.
    In addition a metal gear servos would be nice addition.
    Btw what program did you use for the wind simulations?
