I'll try the soaking and wet paper towel method this coming spring although I've never done anything other than just stick the seed in a good pot of soil and a warm room get it wet and I've never had any problems I've never sanded any seeds I've never used heating pads but I definitely will try the soaking it in the wet paper towel, I know that has worked for me in the past with other types of plants
Great video! Hey can you link some of the fertilizers and additives you use to grow your pumpkins? There’s so much stuff I don’t even know where to start.
Hey I've got some good starts.. started some inside months ago and some went straight into the ground - thanks of course - I started some infront of a window and it took a while but it still worked, actually thankful it took so long because they got big and I was lucky warmer weather began in the middle of may.. as for other stuff, I dropped some clumps of seeds in new garden beds and they sprouted clumps of nice squash plants and we'll see if I can help them hold on.. its going to be a lot of fertilizer and time spent, got to pay to play! If things go well I might want some long gourd seeds a little later on!
I guess that would depend on your goal how big of a pumpkin you want to grow? You can set fruit in July and still hit 1500 pounds if everything is dialed in soil weather healthy plant. However most champion growers try to be pollinated by June 20. But the plant must be big enough to support a big Fruit say 3 to 400 square-foot plant minimum on June 20 when you set fruit
Hello i have two pumpkin plant that i transplanted into the main garden about two weeks ago. And today ive noticed that they both look like they are splitting between the soil and seed leaves. Is this ok and what should i do. Thank you for all the good tips.
I’m not truly sure what you are saying is the vine splitting? The main vine? A secondary vine. Vine splitting can be from too much rain too much water. Please I need a little more information or email me a picture to mark@ worldwidegiantgrowers.com
@@edwerts7096 So the stump(crown) Has a split? I assume this is running vertically from the soil to the sky? So yes these are common you may be overwatering .do not keep the plant constantly wet. Once your plant gets 15 feet long stop watering close to the stump let it dry out. If you do not do this you will get a forming stump. You’ll get a lesion in the stump and eventually form will start coming out of the lesion. This is due to overwatering plant is taking on more water than it can consume
You will need a stump cover to keep the rain off the stump. Typically we don’t places until late June but if you’re getting a lot of rain now you might want to use a stump cover when it’s raining you can take it back off a simple child’s play table will work
@@Worldwidegiantgrowers Ok thank you. The day before i noticed it it did pour down rain all night. Im glad it's nothing to serious. Thanks for the help.
I moved out of the city when covid hit. Now I live in Ohio. I really like to try growing a couple large pumpkins next year just for the fun of it. Any recommendations on a good starter seed that's not too expensive?
People tell me I should go full blast on phosphorus to grow giant tomatoes. What are your thoughts? Or is a balanced fertilizer like a 20-20-20 going to be better?
I think I would experiment and try a couple different ways and a couple different plants maybe even have them separate at two different locations in your garden and see for yourself. I think that’s the best way to go
I think I would be careful going heavy in one area especially nitrogen because you’ll end up with all plant. It really comes down to what is in your soil right now and how will phosphorus react to your soil balance now.? Maybe slightly high phosphorus like a 20 30 20 would be a good thing. So Tri just added a trace of phosphorus along with the 20 2020 and see what you get
Yes sir I do it all the time I do not remove them I believe they help support the vine just bury them cut the curly cue off if you want leave the main base on and Bury it
I like 30% because Michigan is cloudy but if you’re in a super sunny environment I would use 40% plants only you need 50% of the suns intensity for 100% production
@@Worldwidegiantgrowers Thanks for the tips! I actually ended up going with the 40% I feel like it’s already extra hot here this year 96 next week already and mostly blue bird sky’s. Hey would you say a sheet would be good enough to cover my fruit or should I build a little shade tent?

@@Worldwidegiantgrowers Its right at the base of the plant or the stump were it comes out of the soil.
